It does work when the authorities are trained to intervene.

That sounds great in theory, but most bullies don't care much for theory.
Like I said earlier, .. the theory part works great until a victim runs into the bully "again" on the playground, outside the gym, in the parking lot, at the bus stop, .. wherever.

What you fail to admit is that there is a reason many victims don't stand up and fight bullies -- because they are afraid of what is going to happen if they do.

I will give you that for 99% of bullying victims, but when the victim is 6'5", 300+ lbs, and has practiced and played football as an offensive lineman for years, I am sure he is tough enough and can take care of himself.

I'm not suggesting that he picks a fight necessarily, but just in standing up for himself.

When I think of bullying victims, the very last one in the world that I would think of would be an NFL offensive lineman. Or maybe a UFC fighter. LOL

I agree. I would also say when I say confront them that does not mean you have to fight them but stand up to them. In this case he never says anything and just goes on communicating much of it pretty civil even talking about how Incognito is doing after suffering a stinger and incognito asking how he is doing. Most bullies don't care how you are doing and most victims do not hang out with their harasser outside of school or work yet Martin did. Bryant McKinney said no one knew because Martin never said a word instead he just blindsides the team with allegations that some of the players dispute.

Right. Theory.

Here's the theory. You #@$#ed with me and now you are suspended from school. You #@$#ed with me again and now you are in juvenile hall. That sends a clearer message than just trying to fight and getting your butt kicked.

Again you are totally wrong.

Just because a guy can play football does not mean he is particularly aggressive or could hold his own in a fight. Perhaps if some small guy is messing with him he might - but it is clear that Incognito is a bad dude who is pretty frightening and is of a similar size as Martin. Just being big is sort of meaningless when you are getting bullied by someone who is about the same size

Ryan Tannehill: "Richie Incognito was the best possible teammate I could have asked for."

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Tannehill on outsiders' criticism of a lack of team leadership in this situation: "Nobody knew there was a situation to be stopped."

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Tannehill said the controversy is "a big surprise, a shock" because Incognito and Martin had such a tight relationship.

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Dolphins WR Brian Hart: "The truth is going to come out."

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Hartline says the Dolphins players feel like "you guys [in the media] are bullying us, actually."

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Hartline says Incognito feels betrayed by Martin for leaking the voicemail.

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Hartline is outraged because he says Martin was passing the voicemail around earlier in the year and laughing about it.

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Hartline insists that Incognito isn't a racist. Labels the question ridiculous and says he doesn't even understand it.

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Hartline says the Dolphins ordered the players not to comment Monday but that they all decided to let loose and "defend ourselves" today.

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Tyson Clabo just obliterated Martin with his comments. I don't think there's any way Martin can return to the Dolphins.

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Tyson Clabo: "Everybody's trying to make Richie out to be a racist psychopath, and nothing could be farther from the truth."

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Tannehill: "They were like brothers, and [RI] was the first one there to have [JM]'s back in any situation. Big surprise what’s going on."

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Dolphins G John Jerry, who is black, said Incognito never used the N-word around him. "I would have just laughed it off if he had."

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 6, 2013

Brian Hartline on Jonathan Martin: "This was the same guy who was laughing about the voicemail once upon a time."

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 7, 2013

Brian Hartline says he has resisted contacting Martin because he's afraid there is going to be a lawsuit and doesn't want to be subpoenaed.

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 7, 2013

Tyson Clabo also indicated that Richie Incognito was drunk when he recorded the infamous voicemail to Jonathan Martin. So there's that.

— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) November 7, 2013

Interesting nugget: Jonathan Martin had lost his LT job to Bryant McKinnie just three days before he abruptly decided he had been "bullied."

Right, I am totally wrong again.

If you don't think a 6'5", 300+ lb guy that has lifted weights since he was a freshman in high school is not strong enough, and physically able to take care of himself, .. that's hard to believe.

I didn't mean boxing or UFC fighting, .. I'm just seeing a pushing match, bumping chests acting tough kind of thing, .. most bullies back down from any confrontation.

Martin never stood up for himself so he became an easy target and probably fun for someone sick like RI.

It will also let the bully know that his actions have negative consequences. It mirrors the way that grown ups deal with problems.

A 6'5" guy who likely has never been in a real fight in his life is clearly going to be intimidated by someone of similar size who has that experience. You act like he'd be fighting a cornerback or something. But what sort of response would I expect from someone so petulant.

Yea, like all bullies act like, think like, and deal with things like grown-ups do.

And you act like JM is the cornerback, .. he's not.
You act like you know RI is a fighter, and that JM is not. You use those statements as facts when they are only your assumptions.

Did you grow up with both of them? You don't know how either of them can fight.

It is quite a stretch to suggest that an NFL offensive lineman is not very tough. You be sure to tell him that the next time you see him. LOL

I wasn't even suggesting a physical fight, .. just stand up for yourself for crying out loud.

So .... science is great on many levels, .. but it hasn't helped me with my bully problem.
Thanks for being so helpful.

but then your post does seem like a desperate attempt to try and make yourself look better since you got owned so often and so well in this thread...

owned? by a bully like you? lol,,, your too funny. Yes player spoke up at that time no one is saying much with the league office involved but does not change the fact none of them defending Martin, hell his own high school coach was not surprised to hear he was bullied. Funny no one else had a problem with incognito and most saw the interaction between them and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Martin loses his starting job and 3 days later he comes out about being bullied. Sound like a lot of people have been buffaloed but this weak link

Again -- you are showing your ignorance. Bullies do fear consequences. A bully like Incognito may very well have had his livelihood taken from him. Gee, that's a pretty serious consequence and one that he can't be happy about.

RI has a history of fighting in college and is routinely named by his peers one of the dirtiest players in the league. Martin describes himself as soft in the report - a product of an upper middle class background where he went to fancy - you know, that report that most of you haven't read.

But please -- keep blaming the victim. Do tell me, do you also blame the equipment guy who was bullied for his ethnicity?

You calling people ignorant I guess that make you bully. Sorry if not everyone buys into the phyco babble not all of us feel they know everything about human nature. Frankly given how many act today I'm not impressed with their results. But that is me. So now you can please stop bullying people telling them how they must believe or they are ignorant, after all what you are doing would scare Johnathan Martin

None of this really matters at this point.........the official league investigation found 3 Dolphins players and an assistant coach guilty.............case closed........punishment phase now starting.

Again -- you are showing your ignorance. ?

Can you not make your point without name-calling and insults? I guess not.

Anyway ... I don't blame Martin for whatever Incongnito did, .. but I do question his response. You should be able to distinguish between the two by reading my posts.

Have you seen anywhere that I have blamed the trainer? No.

It isn't an insult to point out ignorance. You IGNORE scientific fact and dismiss them. Someone who ignores fact is ignorant. That isn't an insult, it is a description

No, ignorance would be not knowing the fact, to ignore facts is totally different.

I haven't seen any scientific facts in this thread.
