He has 2 void years. We will restructure again. His cap hit should average approximately 30 million per year after this season. Although when we get closer to guaranteed money we may move on and absorb the dead money.

Yes, I agree. Exactly as you are saying. Eventually this kicking it down the next year will come back. The smartest plan is for the Cowboys to figure a way out of the contract as quickly as possible, not stretch it out putting themselves even more in the hole. But, they can't admit when they are wrong.

QB is the one position in the league where you really only have two viable paths at QB:

#1. Top-performing QB on a cheap/rookie contract
#2. Top-performing QB on an expensive contract based on their body of work

#1 will always become #2 and if you're lucky enough to cash in with a SB in #1, good for you. But when that becomes #2, you have less to spend as a team and need to make some more economical decisions.
#3. Top-performing QB who is willing to take a good salary(as opposed to maxed out) and willing to throw some money down the road so they can put a team around him. Examples: Brady, Stafford

Dak's contract isn't hindering it. 19 mill is not hindering us.

What is, is the money we are paying swipe, the albatross contract of Zeke and the , up until now, 4.6 sacks per year last 3 years out of the great DLAW.

Dak has performed up to his contract.
Soooooo, how'd you get out of that coma you were in for the last 9 games?

They didn't have to trade him they chose not to overpay. The raiders were eager to over pay Adams and the dolphins followed suite. Like drew rosenhause said they were working on a deal and we're slowly moving closer to it before Adams received that dumb contract. Good for these guys tho but in ,2-3 years those teams will probably hate those contracts.
Undoubtedly.

Exactly. Just another in a long list of things that made Brady so great.

His recent performances don't support what you are saying, they do support what I'm saying. So maybe you're jaded :).

And if they keep restructuring they will eventually have to pay and it just makes that cap hit keep going up. It's like if I keep refinancing my credit card debt and saying well I'll never have to pay it, nope sorry you will.
His recent performance, off of a horrific injury, was 3rd in the league in Qb rating, 4th in tds, and 3rd on completion percentage.

There may be a season where we have to pay 30-40 million in dead money..... that's if he completely tanks or suffers a career ending injury.

But none of that affects last year, this year, or next year.

Amari Cooper, Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill were cap casualties from having to pay big money to franchise QBs. Cincinnati is going to have a problem trying to figure out how to pay Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase….Good luck!
no they weren't. its their teams think with their QBs, they can just put another WR in place and they weren't going to pay them what they wanted. all three teams could have signed those players. they chose not too. now, we were idiots for letting cooper walk for a bag of peanuts and a 5th round pick that won't stick around (98%).

the rams just handed 40M contract to Stafford and signed allen robinson and still have Kupp.

each organization has limits on how much they are willing to spend on a position or on a player.

As I said at the time they most likely wouldn’t do it since we brought back LVE. It’s ridiculous but it’s how they think. They just plug holes and don’t really care about getting better.
exactly. they fill the roster with 53 players

A lot of times receivers are a product of their QB. It’s going to be interesting to see how Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill do with lesser QBs. Back in the early 80s John Jefferson was the best receiver in the NFL. He was putting up big numbers with Dan Fouts and Air Coryell. He held out for more money and San Diego traded him to Green Bay who didn’t have a top QB. Jefferson’s career went down the drain in Green Bay.
I agree and disagree, I think the WRs also impact how a QB plays, but some QBs just are better than others, ala Rodgers, Brady, Mahomes.....

oh. no, you didn't. master ninja turtle dak deserves the money. he played for chump change while zeke carried him. oh.. no... you... didn't.

and I don't care where he was drafted, he should have started out making 30million.
Oh no you didn't just lump the TEN TOE MEDIOCRE SLOTH formally known as Dak Prescot who has become an ELITE FROG GIGGER in the league hunting TOADS on Sundays building up outrageously senseless numbers refer to the SLOTH as a MASTER NINJA TURTLE, DID YA? To lump the SLOTH with the great turtles Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael is mind boggling, these poor turtles are probably rolling over in their shells............Ha-Haaaa

Actually.....

Mahomes takes up 17.2% of the cap
Rodgers takes up 13.2% of the cap.
Prescott takes up 8.9% of the cap.

The percentages mentioned in the article were based off average salary. Which is not what matters. What matters is how much of the cap the QB actually takes up.

As you can see, Prescott's cap hit is ideal. The other two, not so much.

The good thing about this for teams like the Bengals and Chargers. Even if they give their QBs monster extensions after next year, it won't be until 2025 to actually see the big cap hits. For Chase, 2026.
OMG. finally somebody who understands how the cap works..

although some folks have an agenda to drive, so they take average salary, against an actual cap value...if they look at cap value into the future and compared averages then they would have a case. its apples and oranges. both fruit, but can't compare

You couldn’t be more wrong. No way did the Packers want to lose Davante Adams but they couldn’t pay him after signing Rodgers to his huge extension. He was a free agent and the Packers were stuck. The last thing the Chiefs wanted to do was trade Tyreek Hill but they couldn’t pay him. He had one year remaining on his contract. They knew they wouldn’t be able to pay him with Mahomes taking up a sizable percentage of the cap so rather than lose him in free agency next year they were forced to trade him. They wouldn’t have been able to trade him after next season.

The Cowboys didn’t want to trade Cooper but they had to get under the salary cap and they have a number of big contracts including Dak. As for Cooper Kupp he won’t be hitting free agency for another two years which is why the Rams still have him. No organization has limits on what they’re willing to spend on certain players. The salary cap isn’t where it normally is due to the situation we’ve been in the past two years. It’s made it even more difficult for teams paying a franchise QB and you have to pay your QB.

Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill won’t put up the numbers for their new teams that they did with their original teams. That’s a pretty safe bet.

totally wrong.

Rodgers salary cap hit in 2022 is 28M. that's 13% of total cap with expectations of the cap taking a huge jump in 2023 and 2024. the number many fans throw around is if the QB costs more than 15% of the cap they can's sign anyone and win the superbowl. so if GB wanted to keep adams, they could have. they had made him an offer and he wanted more and they weren't willing to go higher. in fact they had offered him a 5 year 142M contract. if they couldn't fit that uner the cap, then why would they make that offer? in fact right now they have abotu 16M in cap space, given how contracts are structured, etc. they could have easily kept him if they wanted to. they could still restructure more contracts to sign more players. cap gets manipulated all the time.

the cowboys opened up cap space by restructuring dak, lawrence and martin and could have done zeke and smith and in fact they could have restructured Cooper to reduce his cap hit by 15M as cleveland did. so I call BS. there was more to cooper being gone than "we didn't have cap space"/.

yes, organizations may not have hard limits, but generally how much they are willing to pay a player. if adams had asked for a 5 year 200M contract, they would have told him no. but they made offer of 5 years 142M (not sure what the guaarantees were, since that's probably the most important aspect of how much a contract is worth).

the salary cap is lower, based on past projections. no argument. every team has adjusted and is pushing money to future years where the cap is expected to make huge jumps. I am sure NFL FO know about it, and what to expect. you and I just argue on a fan board and have no clue.

perhaps not, but their QBs will probably benefit from them being on their team. its not about individual performances, but 53 players, 22 starters and is a team better....its what Jerry has failed at continuously.

I’m not going to waste a lot of time with this but you’re totally wrong. You’re given an opinion I’m providing facts. These receivers weren’t traded because their teams felt they could just insert another receiver. The Packers trading Davante Adams was about cap space. They franchised him but he didn’t want to play under it. He wanted a new long-term contract and it left the Packers no choice but to trade him. His contract with the Raiders caused Tyreek Hill’s price tag to go way up. KC tried working out a new deal with Hill but couldn’t. The Chiefs weren’t going to be able to pay him his asking price and would’ve lost him in free agency next year. Miami made them a great offer and they traded him. If you think I’m wrong provide a link that proves I’m wrong.
