totally wrong.
Rodgers salary cap hit in 2022 is 28M. that's 13% of total cap with expectations of the cap taking a huge jump in 2023 and 2024. the number many fans throw around is if the QB costs more than 15% of the cap they can's sign anyone and win the superbowl. so if GB wanted to keep adams, they could have. they had made him an offer and he wanted more and they weren't willing to go higher. in fact they had offered him a 5 year 142M contract. if they couldn't fit that uner the cap, then why would they make that offer? in fact right now they have abotu 16M in cap space, given how contracts are structured, etc. they could have easily kept him if they wanted to. they could still restructure more contracts to sign more players. cap gets manipulated all the time.
the cowboys opened up cap space by restructuring dak, lawrence and martin and could have done zeke and smith and in fact they could have restructured Cooper to reduce his cap hit by 15M as cleveland did. so I call BS. there was more to cooper being gone than "we didn't have cap space"/.
yes, organizations may not have hard limits, but generally how much they are willing to pay a player. if adams had asked for a 5 year 200M contract, they would have told him no. but they made offer of 5 years 142M (not sure what the guaarantees were, since that's probably the most important aspect of how much a contract is worth).
the salary cap is lower, based on past projections. no argument. every team has adjusted and is pushing money to future years where the cap is expected to make huge jumps. I am sure NFL FO know about it, and what to expect. you and I just argue on a fan board and have no clue.
