Signing a veteran corner

Let's not act like the 1st round DB is a can't miss. Remember the guy Peterson from last year? The top DB in the last 20 yrs? Yes he is an awesome returner and covered Dez, but he didn't even start half the year. Now he might be a great DB some day, but not yet.

We need a starter now and at 14, or in the 2nd I don't see it. We actually screwed up and should have made a play for Joseph last year instead of Nnamdi.

Finnegan is my guy and will love playing for Rob. Remember people Nicks, Cruz, Manningham, Maclin, Desean, etc.

I don't know that Rogers is going to be too expensive. I know that the 49ers have a lot of starters and backups who are going to test the market and they will have to resign Smith. I don't know that they are going to have the money to keep Rogers who is older. I think he might be a good fit for us in the short term. I guess we'll see what happens.

I'm talking about Ball as the #4 CB, and he could also back up Scandrick in the slot/#3 CB spot. And he's still serviceable on special teams. This is why he's likely to be kept, and don't see that as a bad thing under those circumstances.

We also drafted a CB ladt year (forget his name) but he got injured or something. Anyway, they'll continue to develoip him for those late CB spots also.

The #4 CB has to be a true #3. Scandrick cannot play #2 and with how many times Jenkins gets hurt we need someone that can come in and replace Jenkins adn leacve Scandrick at the #3.

I'd much rather sign a FA CB than draft one. Where we are drafting the Cbs there will not be worthy of the 14th pick...unless Claiborne or Kirkpatrick slip a little. I look the success the 49ers had with Rogers, a 1 year deal that helped both parties involved.

If the two corners are gone then it's DeCastro city.

DeCastro could be the pick even if either corner is there.

I think a decent corner could be picked up in rounds 2 or 3.

I probably would not want to see this happen. He has good coverage skills IMO but he tackles poorly. We already have issues in our secondary in this area. All he would do is amplify those problems IMO.

He'd be my target for free agent cornerbacks.

I think he was really coming on before his injury, and if he's healthy, I think you'd be getting a potential Pro Bowl-level cornerback just entering the prime of his career, and hurting the Giants at the same time.

This team has not been shy about acquiring players coming off knee injuriy and I'd certainly take a look at Thomas.

Janoris Jenkins is a first round talent. If we feel he's over his immaturity issues, he'd be a great pick at 14. Might be the most talented CB in the draft.

It seems the top of the corner class for this offseason is going to command too much money and strap us down to long term deals. Like Finnegan, Porter, Grimes, Carr and probably even Carlos Rogers. What does everyone think of signing a solid veteran to short term deal who can still play? These are all guys who we can get at a discount due to injury or age:

Rashean Mathis
Terrell Thomas
Bryant McFadden
Jason Allen
Will Allen
Aaron Ross

Carlos Rogers shouldn't be a "probably even" throw in. He might be the best of the bunch actually. Porter is just "eh" to me and Finnegan or Thomas would be my top choices along with Rogers.

He was the 91st ranked corner per one grading service.

Newman was the 97th ranked corner.

I guess that would be kinda, sorta of an upgrade!

Brandon Boykin is a pet cat, but I think he will rise out of our reach in the 2nd round.

I'd add Eric Wright to the list of FA CBs...he's worked with Henderson and Ryan before.

Fix the pass rush and you will fix most of the CB problems..

The D must be fixed, we GAVE away to many games this past season and in years past that were won because the D could not hold on to a lead, we have been doing that for about the last 3 or 4 years, time to stop the opp last min drives and fix the D..

1st one of the top pass rusher OLB is what is needed more than anything,

2nd I would say a ball hawk FS is a must or top CB if falls,

3rd a CB or FS, why third at CB, people say, well Larry Brown was a 12 round pick but because of the pass rush even he could cover well,

4th a ILB or WR, that could very well be a 4th or 5th round pick

5th I would take a WR or ILB in the 4th or 5th, I would let Robinson walk if he wants more than 3 WR money, but someone will throw more than that money at him..

6th TE or CB, need a good backup for the third TE spot, not a high priority, and always use another CB.

7th CB or TE again, we seem to have a good deal drafting TE in the 7th round..

Ditto...if he checks out ok...you can sign him along with someone like Kelly Jennings for depth while drafting one in the middle rounds...you're set at corner.
