It's funny that you say that, because if you go over to the Giants board, they are scared to death that the Meadowlands is going to be crawling with Cowboys fans this Sunday.

They readily admit that they're going to lose much of their "homefield" advantage this weekend because so many Cowboys fans will be at the game and will be louder and more into it than their fans.

In fact, read this thread and tell me if it doesn't sound oddly familiar to what you hear over here.

What sucks is we had a broker taking a client to the game and they were going to take me since the client is a Cowboys fan and I am too. (all about client relationships!) Something came up and the client can't go now. They never bought the tickets and I'm SoL.

No its not. I dont doubt that you may be unable right now to buy tickets, they are expensive.

But there are many of us who plan for it all year and are not caviar eating ritzy people. I dont even drink beer at games. I am there for the football.

I make as much noise as I can, as do many. There are just so many people there who treat it like a restaraunt, the middle aged parents. They sapp the energy. But I would say at least 50 to 60% are rabbid fans into the games every move.

Money plays a role I am sure, but I dont think that tells the story.

regarding the bolded, how so? just curious to see how that works (I believe you)

I've gone to plenty of Mavericks games, regular season and playoffs, sat in the lower bowl, and that crowd was loud as hell. Then again, Mark Cuban doesn't price anyone out.

I've never seen Cowboy crowds get into the game like Oiler crowds did in the Astrodome... That was incredible when they started playing the fight song.

You were joking? I thought you were serious.. I think it's a very legit point. I know some will get pissy, but they can adjust their little underwear.. and stop crying.

If that stadium gets loud - please, tell me when - show me a video, show me a down. I see crucial 3rd downs, I see players waving arms, hell - I've read about them using the massive video screen to get the noise loud - and it not once got 1/2 loud as the Saints stadium got.

Get defensive if you will - but it's a fact. Our stadium is not loud.

Did you look at the video I posted?

This is probably truer than anything folks could say about there being a wine and cheese crowd there.

Every game I've gone to, I see die hard fans excited to be at the game. It's not exactly dominated by the corporate types that people claim have taken over.

Football Outsiders did a study on what team's stadiums draw the most false start penalties from opposing teams.

And the old Texas Stadium was in the top 5.

Yep, no homefield advantage at all.

I'm surprised Simms didn't mention Tom Brady in this quote.

Simms is a ^#$&ing tool, one of the worst analysts in the game. He is execrable, banal, and grating. I was at the Commander game, and that stadium definitely gets loud.

Screw Simms. He is among a handful of people who I loathe as incompentent overconsumers of oxygen.

yeah, but what do you think of him as an announcer?

that right there is the biggest problem for atmosphere/noise call it what you will at major sporting stadiums across the globe. sports games are the places to be seen and companies buy up tickets in order to impress clients by taking them to the game, theres a good chance those tickets are going to people who have no great connection to the sport in general never mind a team in particular (obviously in this case you would have been the exception)
that can be said for nfl, european soccer, olympics, rugby world cup, the ashes cricket, formula 1 and many many more.
you still have everyday fans at the game making noise but it makes it difficult to build a good atmosphere when large chunks of the stadium have no interest in joining in.

Don't know the guy so can't say what kind of person he is (though did eat dinner at a table next to him at Del Frisco's many years ago) but he and Joe Theisman (spelling? Screw it, he ain't important enough to look up) are the WORST ex QB's as analysts.

He puts the anal in analyst.

I'm on that list too, right??

Do you ever get nostalgic for the glory days of the Cowboys' newsgroup?? I can't tell you how cathartic it would be to be able to let a few vulgarities fly every once in a while, like way back then... :D

Hell no you ain't on that list. We just disagreed about some politics.

I do miss the newsgroup, it was my type of locker room. Nice to have a place where guys can be guys. Hard to roll with the PG rating in here. Sometimes you have to tell a mot56%&$&%$ to go ^$%^& themselves.

KC may have loud fans, but they also have a ton of fair weather fans.

They've been outnumbered by both Cowboys and Steeler fans this year. That's pretty sad.

When they're good they get loud, when they're not, they just don't show up. A pretty weak fanbase IMO.

Not going to debate the quality of fans, but one thing is for sure. It is a loud fun place to watch a game.

Dallas has it share of bandwagon/fair weather fans right here on this forum.

Every team has fair weather fans.

I'd rather fair weather fans that corporate casual observers.

Phil Simms on a radio interview tonight...

Quote..."Dallas has the biggest and best stadium with the largest fan base in the NFL, but they are the only team in the NFL without a home field advantage."

Those of you who live in Dallas and are season ticket holders can probably attest to the validity of this, but I think the general consensus is we have a wine and cheese crowd that will never be confused with "intimidating."

I'm also curious as to the difference between Cowboy Stadium and Texas Stadium as far as noise.

I know Phil, we should throw "d cell batteries" at our opponents, right? Let's not forget throwing beer on people who attend the game wearing an opponent's jersey. While we are at it, lets put a couthouse in our stadium so we can get the rowdy fans who get arrested, back doing what they do best, which is "being a lowlife". Some things are a little more important than football, and that includes NOT being a thug *******.

Theebs, sorry it took so long to get back on your question but I was driving from Jacksonville to Orlando so it might have been an ESPN station, I think it's called Game Night. Don't know who the host was.

That has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever read. If you want to complain about the level of crowd noise, fine. If you want to imply that your fans are better than our fans or just all other fans in general, knock yourself out trying to do so. However, if you're going to equate homefield advantage with crowd noise, you should present facts instead of conjecture.

Just how in the blue hell does a team hosting a game NOT have homefield advantage? Does Phil Simms comprehend what the term "homefield advantage" means? If, for instance, Dallas secures a wild card home game. Will Simms repeat his statement by demonstrating that x-amount of decibels is the reason why Dallas DOESN'T have homefield advantage? Will the team traveling to Dallas for that game be just as stupid enough to say, "Yowsers! These Dallas fans are a tad less loud than ours! Golly gee wilikers! That means we have homefield advantage for this game! Yuk yuk yuk!"

Foolish idiot.

My belief is this phenomenon is based in two distinct set of circumstances.

1. Ticket prices do tend to eliminate a rowdier set of people. When you think of Philly and Pittsburgh and other places that have excitable crowds those stadiums are usually labeled as the blue collar fan. Dallas doesn't fill their stadium with this type of individual.

2. The area of the country we're in has different views on what is socially acceptable. Or the Dallas area has a more refined attitude - which could be seen as pompous - and therefore would never publicly exhibit the behavior of fans from the blue collar teams.

Add to this the football game is a social event more than a sporting event and this would dovetail with the first reason in that the stands are filled with people wanting to be seen rather than people wanting to bleed sliver and blue.

Spurs fans would disagree with you 100% on this one. If you visit BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1, they at times talk about the aggresiveness of Mavs fans in the AAC.

See the par where the price forces out some of the rowdier people in my answer? But then I wouldn't put anything past a Spurs fan and their perception of Dallas. They seem to have been working under the misconception that Duncan has never moved when he sets a screen for his entire career.
