We did NOT play much two TE formations the last half of the season. He was getting the job done without help most of the time. I figure that both AJ and Columbo could probably start for about 10 teams in the NFL; so their relative ability at their positions is about the same.

Johnson got benched and Colombo has played 1 season of football, I'm sorry but no he does not deserve 4 to 5 mill a year that is outrageous to hand over money for a guy who has little playing time and yes even in the second half of the season Dallas ran 2 TE formation and yes he did get help. I would love to work for all of you who just hand out cash like it is nothing. I want Colombo back but not at all cost, he has not proven that he should get that rate of pay.

What's even more outrageous (Gimme a break, it's not like YOU'RE gonna pay him) is going into next season with a question mark at RT, yet again.

Pay the kid, JJ, and lets get to work on signing a RG.

Johnson hasn't received a 4m/yr contract. It was just suggested in one of the articles posted.

I agree that while I don't think Columbo deserves a contract on the same level as Pashos after just one good year, due to the market, he may very well get it.

It is not the market it is an owner who went out and paid too much, so because some idiot sets the price all others should fall in line with that? That just does not make much sense. It is like he overpaid for a car so I'll go out and do the same thing.

That's the way it works in the NFL, incase you haven't been paying attention the last 15 years.

Your right it is not my money nor is it your money it is Jerry money and evidently he is not going to bend over and just pay what every Columbo wants that is stupid he wants it so Jerry should just fork it over, but as a fan of this team who has watched as we have been through cap hell I don't want to see us overpay for guys who have not proven they are worth that kind of money.

I have paid attention and seen Jerry raked over the coals for over paying and I don't want to see him over pay any longer for a player who has not prove jack as of yet. He has 1 season and now he deserves big money? You may be a sucker I'm glad Jerry is smarter than that.

The "Cap hell" bit is old. With how high the cap is nowadays it's rare for a team to be in cap trouble. Hell, the skins pay out their arse every year and don't have to pay for it.

And I'd GLADLY go to cap hell for 2-3 years if it means we won a superbowl or three.

I'm a sucker cuz I have a better understanding of how the market works? If you say so, Pal.

I didn't realize you were Jerry Jones' freakin' financial advisor.

I don't care if you think it is bit old or not the 9ers just got out of it and the skins are about to be in it because of stupid moves and paying a guy who has been injured more years than not and now has played 1 season that is stupid to turn around and pay him top money

It's about supply and demand. There's a limited amount of starting quality right tackles and Colombo fits the bill. It's not about whether someone else set the price, it's the value of someone being able to protect your team's quarterback and the other options available to you.

If the 'boys don't sign him, they're looking at another year of crossed fingers and hoping the new guy will work out. With Colombo, they want to reap the benefit of resurrecting his career and not having to start all over.

But Colombo does not owe any loyalty to the 'boys or anyone else. I think it's only right he tests the waters to see what else he could get from another team. He will get the money here or somewhere else and the team paying it will be happy.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard or read that...

And it's NOT stupid to pay the guy. He's young and will likely get even BETTER next season. THE MARKET IS WHAT THE MARKET IS.

If you think a solid RT is gonna come to JJ and say "Hey, I'll play for less then the market value just cuz I like you" then you're freakin' delusional.

Honestly, until you know what Colombo is asking for and what Jerry is trying to pay, you don't know if there's any potential bending over being done by either of them. It's called negotiations. And they're still in the midst of them.

I agree with you 100%.

If JJ wants to protect Romo and build Romo, he's going to have to somehow rebuild the OL.

The way it looks right now, Colombo is one of the better options at RT for us. But maybe JJ has an alternative in mind? I don't think it's Davis. I think Davis is being looked as an alternative to Rivera.

And Colombo may not deserve what Pashos (sp) got in Jack., but he probably will end up with something similar, IMO.

Right you have an understanding that is a joke. Because some other team overpays we should as well. Lastly no I'm not Jerry advisor but then again Columbo is has not signed a deal that tells me that Jerry is not just going to fork over any amount money because Columbo wants it. Hell if that his how you would work a deal I'm damn happy your not running the show. Player tells you want he wants and you just bend over for him? Yeah you’re real bright!! :laugh2:

That's a mouthful coming from some "guy" that doesn't even know what Columbo's asking for.

Real smart of you.

Thats not an average, its the first year: signing bonus plus base pay in 2007.
Which isn't that much -- it means his signing bonus was less than 9 million. That doesn't tell us much. If Davis is going for 12, I expect Colombo probably is too.

If we lose Colombo thats bad because then we almost have to sign Davis and that puts a strangle hold on us not only in free Agency but also in the draft unless they go out and sign another guard.

Im hoping both Davis and Colombo are on this team next season.

We have very incomplete information. It is possible that JJ is misjudging Colombo's value.
