Cause I know I would be flippin furious if the Cowboys made this deal, even if our #1 back had shoulder problems.

the good thing about us is we have three guys that can get it done in the backfield and if one goes down we don't have to trade the farm to make up for it we just get to keep right on trucking.

No. Somehow I missed charting the Skins third and short conversion pct. From a stats perspective, Duckett isn't gonna make that any better. He was far worse than Portis last year on 3rd and short.

I didn't ask you to "chart" the third and short conversion pct. I know this because of the amount of F-bombs I dropped because of it.:D

Well, from a stat-perspective, get ready for quite a few more F-bombs as Duckett gets stuffed in short yardage.

Not gonna happen dude. Gibbs knows what he is doing.

Somehow last year, playing for one of the most successful running systems in the entire league, Duckett averaged 1.5 ypc on 3rd and short. Portis averaged 3.1 ypc on 3rd and short.

And you want us to believe Duckett solves this problem.

It's not just for goal line situations. Remember how difficult it was for us to convert third and short last year?

It isn't worth 3rd & 4th round picks for a goaline/short yardage RB. I'm hoping there is something else to this because I don't see what Duckett could bring that would make him worth 2 picks like that. Even if Portis is hurt for the season it's not like Duckett could remotely fill in for him. It just seems like alot to give up.

I already stated that I'm not happy about trading picks, again. But, IF he turns out to be a good pickup and does indeed have an impact than it will ease the pain.

There are a few scenarios that could make this a bad deal, but there are just as many that can make this one helluva pickup. I guess we shall wait and see.

Good point, just curious, how many RB's do you think you will keep on the 53 man roster ? I assume CP isn't going on IR ? now Ducket...Betts will stay, thats 3 ? Who else ? Think you will cut someone at RB that you might have wanted to keep ? Thats the issue I would have if we had made the move.

Washington is going for it this year. Duckett will be good for them. The 3rd and short stats are meaningless without knowledge of where they occurred on the field and in what situation. What about goal line offense? What are the stats then?

Regardless, Duckett represents solid depth.

True.

And I hope the Commanders continue to trade multiple mid-round picks for solid depth at positions they were probably already ok at.

I agree I think Duckett is a good pickup for the skins. He is a good short yardage guy and a good blocker in passing situation.

I have in order CP, Betts, Duckett and Cartwright. I say Cartwright because he is a great special teams guy. I also see us keeping two fullbacks/h-backs in Sellers and Broughton.

That's pretty irrelevant, when you consider that there's not far to go, so ypc means nothing. Even so, Duckett averages less than Portis, no doubt because he only gets the ball in real, real goalline situations. Portis will get it a few yards out.

Do you have anything that shows those stats being irrelevant? You assume Duckett is a better short yardage back, and will improve your short yardage woes. The stats don't support that. You can keep making googly eyes at people who agree with you, and laughing at the silly stats, or you can bring something relevant to the party.

I don't know why all the discussions about a 2nd rate running back, and the farm that the Midget gave up to get him, and this "St. Gibbs knows what he's doing" crap...

Everyone knows that the RedStink fans ALWAYS say that the guy they got is the BEST at everything, and then next year after he bombs out, they will say that he was NO GOOD ANYWAY...

It's a typical trait that the RedStink fans always have...!

"He's the best when he's here, he's the worst when he's gone."

I have never seen a more sorry flock of sheep in my life...but, hey, that's their problem...

Right. It would be his low YPC that speaks to his ineffectiveness as a player.

No ...that speaks to his use as a short yardage back. By the way 3.9 for his career is very respectable, especially when being used in the capacity Atlanta used him in.

I do think that Duckett is a very good short yardage back...especially on the goal line. From 2002-2005 Duckett had the third highest TD conversion percentage on the goal line behind Priest Holmes and Shaun Alexander. That is an upgrade on the goal line. BTW, Portis was 25th on that list.

Considering the hits people take on the goal line, I think having a running back like Duckett handle the workload to punch it into the end zone is a much better strategy than letting Portis handle it.

Even though I just posted this literally like 9 posts before this?

Way to generalize. I think every team has homer fans.

I don't know if I've ever read anything from you other than posts such as this one. Is this all you really have to add to any discussion?

I believe it was only one pick. Either a third or a fourth rounder based on how the Skins do this year.
