If the Commanders truly wanted Taylor to play another season, they wouldn't be hassling him about offseason workouts. Running back Clinton Portis often spent the majority of his offseason working out on South Beach.

I think the Commanders planned to get rid of Taylor all along. It is just like Vinsnyder to say they cut him because of (lack of) commitment on his part... just to give them a reason to cut him. I think $$$ is the bottom line on this cut.

Taylor is a liability against the run (as I thought he would be in DC) at this point and any nickel pass rush he might provide at this juncture isn't worth anywhere near $8M per year.

It is a case of Vinsnyder saving face... as if we're all dumb enough to think Washington really wanted him there and that he could justify that kind of money.

Notice this move followed directly on the heels of three moves (Hall, Haynesworth, Dockery) that has public perception at an offseason high. They planned to get rid of him right when the focus would be on positive moves for the franchise.

Vinsnyder was correct too... Skins fans aren't bemoaning the move anything like they would have been even a week ago.

I wouldn't mind bringin him in as long as he don't cost too much, cause if nothin else he can mentor the younger ends like Bowen and Hatcher, even Spears.

Look for them to draft a DE...

And before the question is asked, NO Jerry shouldn't bring him to Dallas.

i think it would be a good bring in no matter what all you guys think...;)

I do too. I think he takes less to be in the right situation. That may not be Dallas, but who knows.

I know that he's still better than either Ellis, or Spencer. Bring him in for a contract similar to Brooking and let him teach Spencer a little something.

Taylor is not that far removed from his DPOY.

LOL.

Go Snyder.

I guess the NFC East was too much for this little guy.

Snyder offered to restructure so that he got all 8.5 mill with a voidable multiyear deal. He refused to accept working out with at the team location. I wish he could have stayed, but I doubt he's signing anywhere. Looks like Parcell was correct.

what??? I would comment further, but this makes zero sense whatsoever.

Skins fans were split on keeping him and seeing how he would do with haynesworth next to him, and cutting him so we could add some more depth at certain positions. Honestly, the guy can still play I'm sure, but it doesnt seem like he wants to. His mind isnt in football, and he was unwilling to renegotiate his contract despite he himself saying, at the end of last year, that he wasnt worth his salary.

The way I see it, he's a liability against the run, and the skins defense did better the year before he came. Vinny is an idiot for losing a 2nd round draft pick for him. Still, had he been more into football instead of dancing, and willing to take a pay cut, he'd still be with us.

Good move at the end of the day. Now, I can see us drafting a DE with #13, and adding some OL depth. Hopefully.

Roy Williams.

We're not cutting Roy Williams after one unproductive year.

And even if Roy ends up busting in Dallas, doesn't mean its still not funny that Washington traded a 2nd for the right to rent Taylor for one unproductive year.

I'll say it: I think he could thrive in an Ellis role, rotating with Spencer at OLB, much better than playing a DE in a system like in Washington.

Yeah, he's old and all that. But did he really get "that" old from his last season in Miami -- very productive -- to last season (entirely unproductive)?

Besides, we're obviously not afraid to bring in potentially washed up linebackers. Why not give him a look see.

No argument there.

To me I just feel like Jerry made the trade to get a ring last year. For Roy to come in, make an immediate impact, and open up the offense. We failed miserably.

I dont see why we couldn't have just signed him this past offseason, and kept the picks.

HAAAAAABAAAAAHAAAAAABAAA!!!!!!!

Gave up a high 2nd to rent the guy for 1 season, amazing.

The workout close is total BS cover here fellas. Portis goes down to "The U" and works out in the offseason and the Skins say JACK about it. This was just an excuse to cut Taylor, plain and simple.

Besides, if workout participation is so important to the Skins, then why did they not add it to the contract when the trade was made???

What a bunch of dumb arses in Washington.

Frankly, other than losing the second round pick (which defininitely does suck)...I'm not unhappy to see Taylor go.

It's time for the Skins to get younger in some key areas.

And now we have over 12 million dollars to play with.

Whats better is that, essentially, the Skins got no production out of, what, 3 or 4 second and 3rd round picks?

They got Taylor for a second and I know they spent a second on Thomas and I believe Kelly as well and then either got that Davis cat in the 2nd or 3rd round.

They had all those picks, in that area of the draft, and they got absolutely nothing of value out of any of them.

That's what made me smile.

I find it amusing. Way to throw away a 2nd round pick, Danny!

Skins fans still amaze me. They claim "Well who do we get now?"

You sign Haynesworth to 100 Mill, Dockery to 26 Mill and D.Hall to 50+ Mill, and don't expect to haveto cut half your team?

Time for them to see the grass is not always greener going the free agent way.

If they haven't learned that through the years, and years, and years of that not working and not being greener, then they're never going to learn it, to be quite honest.

How does that give you 12 million to play with? You had to cut people just to make sure that the Hall, Haynesworth, and Dockery deals wouldn't put you well over the cap. I don't see how you've spent all that money and would still have 12 million left.

But, granted, I don't know the cap structure like Adam does and I certainly don't know enough about the Skins cap situation to know.
