I like holmgren over all the ones mentioned.

I just don't get why there is not more talk with sean payton.

He was here before and I think he wold be good.

He already has a job.

That is a stupid rule. It only serves to hurt minorities. Ask Dennis Green.

I agree with you...

Hey, if that is how it must be because of the "Rooney Rule", why not include woman coaches too?

Janet Reno would whip this team into shape!

Just as a thought, what if the Boys do finish strong, make it to the superbowl and lose? You would almost expect to see Wade back it that scenario, wouldn't ya?

He would deserve it if his contract is still up. Maybe....

I think Holmgren is probably a nice guy.
I dont want him for a coach. What gets lost in the sauce is that he could have won more with Favre and he didnt - BECAUSE he could not control Favre.

He did a far better job of controlling Favre than any other coach has (except for now with Childress). And if you want a coach that demands better play from his players, Holmgren is an ideal candidate, the guy ain't afraid to yell.

Problem is he's a WCO coach who uses a zone blocking scheme and the 4-3 scheme.

So why not bring him in to CONTROL Favre Jr?
This man was wiped out the last year he was coaching. He just seemed to fulfill the obligation.

IF he was to become HC I would seriously give this team a break. Not one of those I quit watching the Cowboys rah rah nonsense. It would be Jerry pulling his nonsense and hiring a name coach and probably limiting what he does/controls blah blah blah.

A young gun is the way to go IMO. New, FRESH, raw, NOT AFRAID to upset the apple cart ala Denver. I laugh at all who laughed at Josh when he became HC. I saw some real genius in what he was doing. He ESTABLISHED himself and BOSS from jumpstreet.

I think this is a bit of revisionist history.

When Favre was in his prime under Mike Holmgren, the NFC was extremely tough.

Once the Packers finally started to get over the hump, a man by the name of John Elway finally got a running game.

Yes, the Packers were favored in the Super Bowl vs the Broncos, but I think that had more to do with how the NFC had owned the Super Bowl for years, more than the Packers proving that they were the better team throughout that year.

I dont think he cares much about what the defensive scheme is. He was with SF forever and they ran the 3-4 the entire time he was there.

I would not mind Gruden if he agrees to do a Tomlin. Keep the current offensive and defensive schemes. The Cowboys do not have the time to completely overhaul BOTH the offense and defense and remain competititive.

It really doesn't matter who we bring in or if we bring in anyone at all, until Jerry steps down as the GM and relinquishes control of his "toy" to his son, all the HCs will be hampered by the same issues.

We've had a hands-off coach in Switzer (won with Jimmy's team but not after that). We've had a smart coach in Gailey, was stuck with assistants that he didn't get to select, plus he wasn't all that afterall. We've had the home-grown, company-man in Campo, he flat out sucked. We've had the tough, no-nonsense HC in Parcells, got rid of some riff-raff but no playoff wins. We've had the softer, family approach of Wade Phillips and had some early success but have still not won a playoff game.

The one constant in all of this is Jerry Jones. There is no discipline, even under Parcells, because the players KNOW who really runs the team and makes all the final decisions, and it ISN'T the HC.

Jimmy had control over the players, and it worked, but at the end of the day, Jerry found that Jimmy got all the credit and he didn't like that.

Jerry Jones is a billionaire fan who bought his own team for the express purpose of buying his way into the game. He wants to hang out with the players, stand in front of the cameras, be the face of the team (yech), make personnel moves as if this were a video game, and more than anything else, be seen as the guy who made it all happen.

This past off-season we finally saw him back off some and allow others to make the personnel decisions, or at least many of them. We had a good draft and avoided dumb moves in FA. We drafted and signed good, solid players.

Keith Brooking was a great signing! Sensabaugh was a solid addition. Letting Owens walk was a smart move. Olshansky was a nice replacement for Canty. None of them broke the bank and all of the guys we brought in are good players.

I think this team is moving in the right direction MOSTLY because Jerry has been less involved. The more he backs off the better this team is going to be, regardless of WHO the HC is. Obviously the better the HC the better the team will be, but until Jerry takes his hands off the team it won't matter who the HC is, we cannot achieve our goals with him in the way.

They look like some sort of men's choir. :laugh2:

I would expect him back.

For me it is simple this is year 3 as the HC he has to get this team over the hump if does he would have earned the right to remain the HC if he fails then he should lose his job. I would say that for Wade just as I would Gruden, Holmgren, Cowher or any other coach. Dallas is 3-2 heading into some tough games and I'm pulling for Wade and this team to get it done

Just imagine this team running a west coast offense with Tony Romo at the helm?

Holgren is a great coach, but I hate the west coast offense, and I don't think Jerruh is willing to give up on the wonder boy Jason Garrett just yet, and then there is the huge question about who will run the defense??

Wade is not a very good HC in my opinion, But he's a very good DC. Is he willing to take a demotion?
I seriously doubt it, so that pretty much sums up getting Holmgren to be HC. besides, can you see Holmgren and Jerry butting heads on who wants to be the boss??

That would be the total destroyer of this teams chemistry we're just now acquiring without T.O. and the rest of the troublemakers on this talented roster. Give Wade and Red one more year, and if they can't turn things around, I think Jerruh knows what needs to be done, Blow this team up and start from scratch.

Just my two cents.

Jerry paid Garrett to stay. He only did that because Wade's contract wasn't up and he was worried Garrett would take the HC gig elsewhere. We all know that.
Wade's contract will end this year and unless this team wins the SB he will likely be done as HC.

Jerry already has full control over Garrett and a long working relationship plus, he obviously values the guy by the $$$ he paid to keep him.

Why would he not let Garrett step directly into Wade's shoes? (other than the customary "he sucks" reason)

Think about it. Garrett WILL be the Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

I think you make some very vaild points however I think it comes down to how this team performs. Jerry has been known to change his mind and if the results of the season are poor I think Garrett is at risk of being canned as well.

This year was "continuity" because jason & wade had a combined 3 years guaranteed payouts. Jerruh just expired 2 of those 3 years with "continuity".

Jerry would have to extend jason & can't cut his pay meaning 3-4 guaranteed years on a huge contract for a proven failure.

In short... barring nothing short of a miracle (ie. a super bowl victory)... next year jason is gone baby gone.

Bank on the Walrus to come in here. Jerry is familiar with him (friends of jerry get priority) and Jerry will see it as a good investment in Romo.

How small are those chairs in the front row?

They look like something you'd see in a preschool.
