Smart thing is to take advantage of depth at certain positions, but

In the Taco Charlton draft, there was a deep corner class but shallow DE class. The Cowboys decided to take a 2nd rd player at the shallow position over a 1st rd corner in King due to depth at the position. As we know, they took the wrong pass rusher, but did end up with Awuzie, Lewis in that class.

They can use a similar strategy this year, but must be careful not pass on a better player in the process.
Taco was taken a lot later than 12.

let me remind you, there maybe just 10 first rd grades in this draft with very few blue chip prospects, where Jeanty is one of them. I don’t want to take another 1st rd back, but I am not passing on a star for a solid player
It depends how high they rate the next 5 backs. They could look at running back at pick 44 and 3rd round. It does look like running back will be hard to pass on at 44, but there will be good players at other positions available as well.

We have seen how this team has fared, when they waited on rb. Loaded class two years ago and we landed just Duece. It is going to be hard to pass on a more valued position on day 2, but they are going to have to pull the trigger, especially if grades are similar

It's going to be interesting what happens with Duece. It will also be interesting what players are on the board at 44. There will be dline and safety players available.

The draft show seems to be interesting this year. Take a look at it. Voch and Broaddus disagree big time with Nick and the host on players. Harris sounds like he is a board member on Cowboys zone. He said if the Cowboys are left with Jeanty on the board he would parachute out of the pick. Broaddus jumped on him and said ok explain your plan. Harris talked about drafting the Oregon running back in the third round. They countered him by saying how do you know the back you want will fall that far. Good stuff…….
Trading down is riskier than people realize. You move into a point in the draft where the talent has much lower chance of success. I think fans get too into playing with draft simulators and that makes them think that trading down is always the best option

I wanted Watt myself, didn't like the corner, but their strategy was to take the lower player on their board due to the depth at the position. King had a higher grade on their board then both Taco/Watt. Watt clearly became the best player of the three. However, my point is, you shouldn't take a lesser player cause the depth is stronger at another position.
Was that their strategy? Did they consider Awuzie a worse prospect then Taco?

I get your point but the strength of the draft is in the second/third rounds. The 12th pick can net you 3 solid players if you make the right trade. Imagine using the 12th pick alone to net your 2nd receiver, 1 tech, and running back while the Cowboys will still have their own 2nd and third to play with.

I’d agree to an extent but in a weak class I have no problem trading down if we could add a 3rd.

We’d still be in a great position for guys like Egbuka, Barron, best DT available etc…

Hard part of that is finding a partner that wants to get up into the top 12. I like Nolan alot in a trade down (Im guessing his value in the 20 range) Like Green alot there too. Egbuka to me is a pretty safe 70/900 guy. Id take that outside the top 20

So would you compare it to a 2013? Where you had a weak 1st but strong day 2

If so, who would you say is our Frederick?

Consolidating this convo a bit lol. Who would you guys guess would be the trade up target at 12 for us to move? Ward? Milroe? One of the DE's?

Sure you have to find a trade partner I’m just saying good options would be there.

Also edge players and or Penn State safety. Could you imagine Mike Green or Jack Sawyer at 44?
It’s going to be hard to not take those spots over a back, but they cannot assume quality will be there the time they pick on day 3
