First off I just want to say I wasn't happy with drafting Stanbach in the 4th round. I wanted LB de Ossie or Free (luckily we grabbed him later in 4th round) or one of 2-3 other players whose name I can't remember including a WR. As I read about him & saw videos of him running (at almost 6-3 he's a very physical runner), thought this kid could really be something but how long would it take?
Once he finally got on the practice field, Spagnola started talking about his work ethic, smarts (fully learned the playbook including responsibilities of each WR & the routes, spent time after practice catching punts, etc. In other words he saw Stanbach as very hungry.
While some on this board thought Cowboys saw him as maybe a 3rd WR in the future but a PR now, Ireland's (along with excitement of Spagnola & Jerry Jones) clearly believed he something very special. BTW: Cowboys used high 4th rounder on him cause we had learned at least 2-3 teams right after us were going to draft him so they couldn't wait.
Don't know if his future is as a Slash-type of player (combination of WR/PR/QB) but it entirely possible he has the talent along with hard work ethic to become the #1 WR we seeking to sometime soon replace TO; he's also a very electric player. Better believe the Cowboys will make sure he gets plenty of playing time in last 2 season games. If he continues develop, Jason Garrett will spend time coming up with plays specifically for Stanbach & he'll see more playing time at WR then we could have imagined.
How quickly he develops could also affect decision to give Crayton a new contract or even trade Crayton before trade deadline passes. Understand several teams expressed interest in Crayton in the offseason.
