So are we gonna cut our 4th rounder now?

First off I just want to say I wasn't happy with drafting Stanbach in the 4th round. I wanted LB de Ossie or Free (luckily we grabbed him later in 4th round) or one of 2-3 other players whose name I can't remember including a WR. As I read about him & saw videos of him running (at almost 6-3 he's a very physical runner), thought this kid could really be something but how long would it take?

Once he finally got on the practice field, Spagnola started talking about his work ethic, smarts (fully learned the playbook including responsibilities of each WR & the routes, spent time after practice catching punts, etc. In other words he saw Stanbach as very hungry.

While some on this board thought Cowboys saw him as maybe a 3rd WR in the future but a PR now, Ireland's (along with excitement of Spagnola & Jerry Jones) clearly believed he something very special. BTW: Cowboys used high 4th rounder on him cause we had learned at least 2-3 teams right after us were going to draft him so they couldn't wait.

Don't know if his future is as a Slash-type of player (combination of WR/PR/QB) but it entirely possible he has the talent along with hard work ethic to become the #1 WR we seeking to sometime soon replace TO; he's also a very electric player. Better believe the Cowboys will make sure he gets plenty of playing time in last 2 season games. If he continues develop, Jason Garrett will spend time coming up with plays specifically for Stanbach & he'll see more playing time at WR then we could have imagined.

How quickly he develops could also affect decision to give Crayton a new contract or even trade Crayton before trade deadline passes. Understand several teams expressed interest in Crayton in the offseason.

Stanback makes two catches in a preseason game, and you guys are already giving him a roster spot.

We need to see more than two catches.

He had a roster spot before the preseason game. But regardless of where he caught it, preseason or in the Super Bowl, that was a nice catch on the TD pass. It required hand-eye coordination, awareness, and soft hands. It's simply more evidence that he can be a good receiver.

Then again I'm not ready to write him off because he had ONLY two catches. He looks good so far and he looked better than Miles Austin last night. I think his roster spot is very nearly a forgone conclusion unless he just absolutely looses it in the next two weeks.

you won't ever see enough cause you only see what you feel like seeing.

you said he wasn't drafted as a WR - yet what position was he playing last night? as for his roster spot - you don't draft a long term project and write them off 1/2 way through the 1st pre-season. why you choose to ignore that is beyond me other than it doesn't fit your agenda, so you go play-dough the world around you to be what you need.

i don't know why you've got this hate-on for stanback or why you refuse to give him a shot, but you're really coming across as a sore loser who didn't get their way in the draft so therefor anyone we did take must suck because it didn't fit YOUR fantasy football draft of what we should have done.

i didn't like a lot of parcells picks, but i *do* hope they pan out just the same. i don't dog on them because they were not what *i* wanted. i've backed carpenter, i've backed fasano - and in both of those, i wanted OL help badly, but *i* didn't get it, but it's ok.

we've got some players here that all i can do now is hope they do turn out, they turn into players and make the team, a team.

you need to go figure out why you've got so much hate going on for the man and then get over it. he's a cowboy and so far, he's doing just fine despite your hopes and dreams that *we* will see the light and that he must be a loser because we didn't draft your boy.

Fine, but don't you want to see him excel? Be a good player for us?

Why do I get a feeling that you would rather see him fail, get cut so that you could laugh, point finger and say, I told you so?

...because he does want him to fail. Just as he wants Henry to fail.

I was in a discussion involving RW earlier and another poster didn't belive me that there are actually people that want our players to fail. Be it a personal vendetta or to prove a point, people like eduncan aren't rare.

And yet he's hurt for camp and you want him cut. Strange.

Oh, I can answer that, he played WR !

I can answer that too, his Henry agenda finally grew too old.

Who do you think we should cut? Hurd? Austin?

In order for this project player to make the active roster, someone has to go.

I see your point with Hurd. He shows a lot of promise, but are you going to argue Austin's abilities at wide receiver are THAT much better than Stanback's at this point? Come on.

He will make the team. The Cowboys love this athletic ability and feel he will only get better at WR.

Ausin had a rough night aginst Denver, dropping a couple passes that he should have had
