So is Jerry a good GM?

So if we win than you give credit to the players but if we lose its all on Jerry and the coaches, correct?

I remember when we lost to the Giants everyone blamed the coaches when it was clearly 100% on the players.

How many of these players were here for the last 12 years. This is old hat, even people who don't follow the Cowboys know full well that Jerry Jones has been and is the real problem here in Dallas.

It's the one constant, we've had a plethora of good players, we've had a QB, we've had the Coaches like Parcells.

Jerry creates a very non-football conducive atmosphere by undermining the leadership of the Head Coach, that's why Jimmy left, that's what drove Bill away.

This "non-football conducive atmosphere" is the one constant that Jerry has brought to our Franchise for 12 consecutive non-play-off winning seasons.

IMO there is a pre and post Parcells.

I do not believe Jerry is the reason we haven't won a playoff game post Parcells.

Jerrys job is to get good coaching and good players on the football field and I think he has done that.

Is Wade a top NFL Head coach? Probably not but he isn't nearly as bad as people harp on him about anytime we take an L.

but you think he is the reason Dallas is six and two which isn't anywhere close to 13-3......it's all about the atmosphere created by Jimmy Johnson or Jerry wouldn't have gotton to run this Franchise in the ground for 12 years straight with his kind of Al Davis leadership. Looking back Jerry didn't have lighting caught in a bottle, the Jimster did. Jimmy brought back a fooball atmosphere to Big D that transended Jerrys' insanity.

What do you think?
:laugh2: A bait thread from one of the rainbow crew because of a 4 game winning streak.....

He could never get hired as a GM, or any other position involving football personnel, apart from hiring himself. That's all that needs to be said. That and the backbone of this team was built by Parcells.

No but I think he is a big reason why we will have a competitive team for awhile now though.

And Jerry doesn't have Al Davis type leadership. That is so over the top.

Al Davis hires and fires a coach every season. Thats something Cowboy fans would do if they could.

Forget the winning streak its about the talent that has been acquired.

Im just being a realist... Ya know... Cause the players are actually good and stuff.

That part I agree with. :)

There's a couple of reasons why Wade's head wasn't on a stake at the end of last year and I don't think any of them is because he's not a bad GM.

1) He put this foot in his mouth and gave Wade a vote of confidence thinking the team would salvage the season. They didn't, but what had been said was already said. Jones would've had egg all over his face after that debacle.

2) There was still a year remaining on his contract with all of the other financial expenditure that Jerry is undertaking right now. I don't think he wanted to be paying that salary to a coach that's not here, plus whatever big name he had to lure to Dallas. Combined with the whole "the coaches are in place" stance, this made sense.

Jimmy left because he said that his 'dream job' was to become the HC of the Dolphins once Shula left. This incensed Jerry (and it's hard to blame him considering people thought he was crazy to hire Jimmy in the first place and then keep Jimmy around after a 1-15 first season) and Jerry didn't think Jimmy should've said that. Jimmy didn't like that and kept ticking off Jerry even more and finally when both had been drinking Jerry said anybody could win a SB with the talent the Cowboys have.

That incensed Jimmy and he high tailed it out of here.

Parcells quit because he had just gotten too old to deal with coaching the game. Not once did Parcells complain about Jerry's management/GM style and in fact, has done nothing but give praise to Jerry as an owner. Furthermore, if Parcells was 'driven away', he would have just become an HC for another team. Instead, he just didn't want to coach anymore but wanted to stay close to the NFL and took the Dolphins job.

I don't buy that. One year on a contract of $3 million just isn't a thing Jerry has to worry about, even if the economy is poor and he just undertook the new stadium.

I think there were many other factors that kept Wade around, particularly going 13-3 in 2007 and probably feeling Garrett isn't ready to be the HC just yet.

I think I would rather have Jerry than about twenty other owners in the league because he cares and for all his warts no one cares more about his team than Jerry Jones.
You also have to recognize the fact he has evolved into a decent judge of talent and allowed alot more input from his advisers/management team. That takes plenty of courage from a guy with an enormous ego.

No.

Jerry is the main reason we suffered through those 5-11 years and haven't won a playoff game in 13 years.

Most people blame it on the 'natural cycle' of successful teams losing their core players and returning to mediocrity.

But, you couldn't have strung together a series of worse drafts if you randomly picked names out of a hat.

I would go with the 'natural cycle' angle too if it weren't for those series of bad drafts you mention coupled with some horrific coaching hires and trades.

Jerry's been one of the worst GM's in the league since taking over full duties when Jimmy left. You look at bad owners or GM's and you'll see that even Bill Bidwell's team made it to the Super Bowl.

We have had some better drafts recently, and I really hope this team makes a major run this year and in the future. But nothing that happens from here on will erase the past. It is what it is.

Thus, he must be the main reason the Cowboys are 28-13 in since 2007.

The Cowboys got back in playoff contention only after Jerry hired Parcells and stepped back.

So to answer your question, yes and no.
