If we could have found a quality LB among the wasted #2s spent on Fasano, Bennett and Escobar, we would be in better shape.
Don't forget the #2 we gave up for Claiborne. That pick was supposed to be Bobby Wagner...

The point was kind of funny in that the debate was always Elliott versus Ramsey and you decided to throw Apple in there. Because in reality, if they had taken a CB there it would have bee Ramsey and we all would be really happy right now considering he's basically a stud CB in his 2nd year.

You're misunderstanding my point. I'm not debating Ramsey or Elliot. I'm playing the idiotic "what if?" game that happens every loss around here. Except i'm taking it from another approach. The what if we had taken Manziel over Martin approach? Or what if we had got Paxton Lynch instead of Dak approach? And if it makes you feel better....if we had taken Ramsey over Zeke approach?

Just off the top of my head, Jaylon Smith, Chaz Green, Byron Jones, Taco Charlton, Randy Gregory. These aren't end of the draft players. These are guys taken in rounds you need production from. Might be too early to make a verdict on Taco but so far, he's been as worthless as you can ask for a 1st round pick. Gregory will never play here again. Chaz might be one of the worst OL I have seen. Jaylon is a lost cause. Byron Jones was a mediocre player at a small school and him being a combine warrior impressed us. He does nothing well. He's not terrible but not even close to a 1st round talent.

I get we are hitting on more players as of late than back in the day but we still pick way too many worthless players who offer no help. In rounds where you expect good production.

I'm not ready to give up on Jaylon Smith. I agree he doesn't look very good yet. But he's essentially a rookie. It's his first year able to play. It's the same with Taco Charlton who literally is a rookie. I'm not saying I'm brimming over with confidence that they'll be great, only that they haven't had enough time yet.

I got your point.

I thought throwing Elliott - Apple in there was kind of funny. I mean why stop there. What if we took a 6th round Long Snapper over Elliott at #4?

Picked right after Jaylon: Hunter Henry, Myles Jack, Chris Jones, Reggie Ragland, Sterling Shepard, Noah Spence.

Yeah but those aren't feel good stories or blue light special type players. Remember, once Jaylon gets healthy, he will be a 1st round pick in theory and the steal of the draft!

I have no idea what this team's fascination is on guys who are not being drafted for a reason. And they want to try and get a value based pick and it always blows up in their faces.

Also, need to name the Mo Claiborne pick and the Escobar pick. 1st and 2nd round picks. Mo was a bust and it cost us our 2nd rounder that year. I know people like to say we are drafting better because we hit on some first rounders (OL mainly) but that's about it. How we approach the draft is the reason why this team never builds on anything. We are so hinged on a handful of players and if they go down, we are screwed. The depth on this team is pathetic.

Eli Apple isn't a 6th round long snapper or equivalent to one. He was the 2nd best cornerback available. Once again, I don't think you got my point. Otherwise, you wouldn't be focusing on one example out of 3 I gave.

They need to stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room. Cause they not. And draft solid, healthy, with no flags. At least in the first 4 rounds.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times and nobody has ever successfully refuted this...

This isn't a league about having a 'magic eye for talent.' It's a league about a HC being able to create an environment that consistently does a good job of developing talent.

I actually think that's Garrett's strong suit, but he hamstrings himself with his inability to make the schemes more complicated and inability to adjust along with his poor clock management and in-game decision making.

Chaz Green was a projected 3rd round pick by most every team in the league.
We didn't reach for him.

Y'know who people thought we reached for?

Travis Frederick.

But, we did a far better job with developing Frederick. Green, OTOH, we moved to LG this season and he was only serviceable at the spot. Outside of yesterday, Green has played well at OT. But, he looked like a guard trying to play LT with his technique. That was a poor decision by the coaching staff along with Green being unable to stay healthy. Not some poor pick that we reached on or we didn't do our homework and didn't realize he was a head case (i.e. Gregory).

The same is happening with Jaylon. He wasn't ready to play this much and he may not be a MIKE backer as he mostly played the WILL in college.

But having said that, for such 'poor drafting' 10 of our 11 starters are homegrown talent (Cooper being the lone guy) and we have one of the top offenses in the league with an O-Line that was playing the best of any O-line in the league in the 4 games prior to Atlanta.

We seem to understand how to develop talent, but when an injury is thrown in there and people have to change positions, we seem to botch everything by trying to get players playing out of position.

YR

Loooooool, smh.

You're confusing draft websites for actual NFL league front offices/scouting departments; you're talking out your rear again.

Not gonna lie, I thought we would take a chance, but with Smith and Jack injured, I thought it would be Noah Spence.

Our record with these types sort of fit at the time.

I don't know... Dallas has drafted incredible over the last 5 years. T. Smith, Fredricks, E. Elliot, Dak, Lawrence, Z. Martin. Lots of elite players.

They are much better at FA/trades. I mean they bring in Darby and guys that started for them last year slide down a spot and are in better roles. They bring in a Bradham in FA who has been a nice player and has softened the blow of Hicks. Jeffrey and Smith allow a guy like Agholor to move to the slot where he has thrived.

They also have a coachin staff, that at least this far, seems to get far more out of what they have than we do. Pederson is more creative than we are and they have schemed to absorb the loss of Peters. Can you say we did the same thing?
