I threatened to walk out if I got any Cowboys gear for Christmas. Wife and the kids took it seriously. Not one item...

Amazing. I said the same thing and my family was blown away and I received no cowboys gear. Wife's a broncos fan now because she is so tired of the cowboys drama and circus. She asks me how I can support such egotistical dysfunction and honestly it's hard to provide a good answer.

I purchase a new cowboys lunch box for work only because some one stole my old one.

When ratings are lower, it affects Jerry. When the Cowboys are still polled as the favorite team in the NFL, it affects Jerry. When you have denizens of message boards on the Cowboys it affects Jerry. When the Cowboys trend on Twitter, it affects Jerry. When they are the subject of favorite team on Facebook...it affects Jerry. When they are the more typed team on search engines, it affects Jerry.

All of these are what companies call KPI (key performance indicators). When those are doing well like they are doing for the Cowboys, there's no reason for the company to change what they are doing. Back in 2002, the Cowboys fell all the way to 4th in the Harris Interactive Poll of Who is Your Favorite NFL team? Jerry subsequently hired Bill Parcells to be the Head Coach of the team. A key performance indicator dropped significantly in Jerry's eyes and a big change was made.

So getting merchandise and buying tickets doesn't help the cause in trying to get Jerry to change. But neither does continuing to post here if you 'refuse to be a fan because you want change' or whatever the anti-Jerry motive is.

I just hope that the anti-Jerry people just quit the team all together and move on Otherwise they just come off as attention seeking bullcrap artists.

I wish your wife would have called your bluff.

And better yet if you did walk out I'd have loved it if she'd have not let you come back.

Seriously one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Threatening to walk out if your family bought you Cowboys gear. Good grief.

I can't disagree with all the KPI stuff you mentioned because I don;t know the economics of it. But people can Google the Cowboys or post on message boards all day long but if merchandise sales drop, that affects Jerry, or at least I would think so. I can visit retail web sites all day long but if I don't buy the merchandise, it affects the bottom line.

But the bolded part is just lame. I think some of the people who are attention ****** are the ones who start threads posting their meaningless thoughts on the game and trying to show the masses that they are smarter than everyone else. Of course, when the team is wildly inconsistent and continues to improve in the win-loss column, these threads seem to pop up a lot less and folks run and hide from their opinions. Interesting........

It's an 'indicator' or future success or lack thereof. You need indicators to help forecast financial upturns or downturns. If you are posting on forums and have high search engine optimization data, that would indicate that your sales will only continue to be good. If they take a turn for the worse, that is likely to mean that eventually the sales will go down. That doesn't mean that is the present time the sales will go up or down, but those metrics given an indication of what will happen with sales down the road. So yes, it affects Jerry because like any billion dollar company, the CEO is going to be made aware of how well the branding part of the company is performing. That's what most people don't understand. They can have an impact on things if they quit the team all together and if they can't stand it, I suggest they do themselves the favor.

When is the last time I posted a 'meaningless thoughts on the game' post?

For somebody that you accuse of being an 'attention *****', I would think that I would post them more often.

And I've got more than 10,000 posts than you do. So I don't see how I'm running and hiding from anything. The reason why stopped posting those posts is because of insecure people that couldn't handle the fact that I dared make a post on a message board forum. I know, it must be a crazy thought to post a message on a message board. I don't know what I was thinking.

Good grief. I've been married 18 years and it was said in jest to my family. I think they returned the Cowboys gear they bought after the Packers game. Lighten up.

I understand the frustration with Jerry and company, but .... I've been a cowboy fan since 1975 and I will be damned if Jerry or anyone else is going to stop me from buying and wearing my cowboy gear. I was a fan before the Jones and will be until after they and any player on this team is long gone.

I've been a fan since 1980 I get the sentiment, but buying gear doesn't make me a better fan but not buying gear or paying to go to a game at that embarrassment of a stadium is the only way I can show my displeasure for Jerry.

Yep. My bad. Just seemed really dumb to me when I first read it but that's just me being dumb. :)

No worries. My family has a good read on things and they know the Cowboys are a hot button subject for me. They get tempted to get sucked into buying gear sometimes, but the back off after they see my reaction to recent games.

and that is where you are 100% wrong.
There was a Dallas Cowboys before Jerry Jones. There will be a franchise after his and his family are gone(i hope, if they don't run it to the ground)
If you don't understand that,,,,.i wish not to continue this line of discussion.

Good luck to you.

Okay but Jerry Jones OWNS the Cowboys............and the organization is staying in his family long after you and I are gone. If you don't like Jerry that's fine. But I think its silly you are trying to separate the two. If you can't get behind a team ran by Jerry Jones you should find another team because he's going nowhere is my point.

Just curious, where you a Cowboy fan when as a owner Jerry gave you 3 rings? But you're not one because he won't hire a GM and he's stuck through mediocrity?

I am eschewing Cowboy gear.

The defeatists here will say, "you not buying Jerra's merchandise won't make a difference."

but in the long run it will make a difference. Ever one cut back 50% on purchases and just see the panic at Valley Ranch.
The Jerra empire IS cognizant of sales. No business owner worth his salts would not keep track.
That is what I am banking on.
For those cutting back I salute you. For you defeatists, I say to you, you half not got the American spirit in you.

This is so wrong.

Really? How am I wrong?

Saving yourself some T-Shirts and Jerseys each year is going to do nothing to Jerry's pocket books. Like I said in a previous thread, what does Jerry have going for him? Oh, nothing but major college football games, international soccer events, NFL revenue sharing, TV deals, AT&T naming rights, tickets that will be sold to either Cowboy fans or away fans, and much much more from the NFL side of things. You honestly believe that fan merchandise is where Jerry makes his money? If he sells less they will produce less, matching demand, and continuing to profit. But lets be real, that is never going to happen no matter what you do yourself, because Jerry will continue to get his even with fan merchandise. On top of that he has multiple other streams of income flowing into his pockets from investments like Papa Johns, oil, and whatever else rich people like himself make money off of (probably some hedge funds and things of that nature).

Not to mention the guy is 71 years old, and owns the #3 highest valued sports franchise in the entire world only behind Manchester United and Real Madrid. He purchased the Dallas Cowboys for $140 million, now worth over $2 billion. Go make a dent in Jerry's pockets! I believe in you!

I laugh at the sheep who say boycotting does nothing. Passive wimps. This society and it's leaders wants nothing more than for you to buy their message of control.

Of course you can't control what other people do. You CAN control what you do.

Problem is, the Cowboys are a privately owned company. Jerry is the owner not the elected CEO. He will do as he pleases.

If you love the cowboys you have to hate the cancer. Jerry is the cancer. You are the one dishing the bullcrap.
