He's the guy I always thought they'd want. Great character, great motor, plays for a "family" guy in Al Groh... It all makes sense.

While I have no doubt that Howie's boy would be a good fit in Belichick's D, he would be playing the same position as Seymour and Ty Warren.

Perhaps it is just misdirection (Lil Bill is never the most upfront so I am suspicious about him leaking out a favorite) so he can get the player he really covets, McFadden.

Maroney is not exactly in BB's good graces. The Jets game was the first time he was re-introduced to the ball in a good long time.

I just hope that the Big Tuna doesnt fleece Jerry because Jerry is so high on McFadden and will do anything to get him.... dont sell the farm because you can still get two very good players with your two first rounders

Jerry would sell his soul for that Razorback.

I fully anticipate a trade with Miami, multiple high picks + a player or two.:D

Parcells was just on ESPN this sunday saying that he would never take a RB with the first overall pick.

One week later he's the VP for the Dolphins, who by coincidence have the #1 pick. As of today, here is the current draft order

Miami......Not with Parcells there

St Louis.......S. Jackson

Jets......just signed Thomas Jones, also have a nice back in Leon Washington

Atlanta.......no brainer.....QB. Arthur Blank pretty much said it the other monday night during the game.

New England......I just don't believe they go RB. Not with an aging Defense. I still say they move down

Baltimore.......McGahee just sighned a big deal there. Need qb anyway

Kansas City......Larry Johnson

Raiders.......very possible
why would having Thomas Jones prevent someone from drafting Darren McFadden

Because they're the Jets.

Miami would not have taken a RB anyway.

The Jets will draft McFadden unless someone trades up.

Yes, from all I read your correct about the Jets interest

We know Jerry values Bill's draft/personnel acumen and has gravitated toward his way of doing things, even after he left. If Bill announces he would never take a RB with the first overall pick, doesn't it follow that Jerry would at least curb his enthusiasm for doing the same, especially considering the ridiculously high price he would have to pay to do so?

I want McFadden, too, but I don't see Jerry trading up to do something that his "mentor" has already announced he would never do.

There was an article in the ESPN magazine a while back about the career life-expectancy of RBs. It was terribly low, relative to other positions. Historically, you just don't get much "bang for your buck" drafting a RB that high, unless they turn out to be Emmitt or something, and he'd have to be considered the exception rather than the rule. I'm sure Jeff focuses on such things even if Jerry doesn't, and that should help us from making any crazy trades w/ Bill for DMac.

Jerry valued Bill's opinion but to call him his "mentor" is ridiculous. However, I would love to see the look on Jerry's face if anyone ever said that to him...lol.

Jerry makes his own decisions. He knows McFadden will be an impact player and if given a reasonable chance, he'd jump at the opportunity to draft him. Who cares if RB's don't last forever. I'll take 7-8 seasons of an All Pro RB to go with our All Pro QB.

I agree. Jerry went out and got TO and while BP may have gone along with it I doubt it was BP is the one who initiated this move. I do think Jerry respect BP but I don't buy that BP was Jerry mentor. :laugh2:

Which players would Bill want in a package with our two #1's???

Anthony Fasano
Bobby Carpenter
Pat McQuistan

Who else? We wouldn't give up more than 2 players but I'm curious which guys Bill would want the most.

Any of those guys could start in Miami. Factor in that Miami has the 1st pick in the 2nd round and Bill could come out of this with the #24, #31, and #32 picks in the draft and two cheap veteran starters who are still on their rookie contracts. That's 5 VERY CHEAP starters on a team with tons of holes. If you're rebuilding a team, that's much better than paying $60M for a #1 pick who's never played a down in the NFL.

If we get McFadden does he back up julius too?

There's about as much of a chance of Julius playing RB for the Cowboys next year as there is ME playing RB for the Cowboys next year.

Because they remember taking Blair Thomas early in the draft one year... and like Sarge said... they're the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets.

what if bill asked for, fasano, barber, cle 1st and our 2nd. i would have to consider it. as much as i like barber he isnt a full time back the way he plays. if you do draft dmac he gets 20 to 25 carries a game, that would leave barber very little. i would sign or draft a kevin faulk type of guy to back up dmac. fasano is good but i really really like curtis. our 2nd so that we can keep at least one of our 1sts. barbers value is very high right now, use him while you can if you are gonna draft dmac. if you dont want to deal players then you are seriously looking at having to send this years two 1sts and next years 1st.
