I'm no big fan of Stoops, but Oklahoma losing to Boise St. isn't nearly as embarrassing as losing Dallas losing to Detroit.

Except our game was pretty much meaningless and the other wasn't.

Personally, I see no correlation between the two games.

Dallas' game was not meaningless. Nevermind the fact that they had a chance to win the division going in. Listen to the players this week if and see if they thought it was meaningless. If Parcells had thought of it that way, some of the banged up veterans - like Anthony Henry - would've sat out. It was an important game and Dallas treated it that way.

From a certain point of view, OU's game was meaningless to. OU had no chance at a championship. Their game was just as meaningless as Detroit's was.

LOL. I smell an OU hater. Total jerk? And we know this how? Crybaby? When, might I ask. Oregon? I'd have cried too, as you would have. Sorry you hate the Sooners so.

no I'[m not a hater...I actually liked OU alot when Switzer was HC there

I dont like Stoops because he is a pompous arse who made a total fool out of himself at halftime of the LSU mandhandling a couple years back...just lost all respect for him...the factor in how poorly his teams have played when it matters the most the past few years, and you see why I think he is overrated...

I hope he stays at OU or if he goes to the NFL, that its anywhere but Dallas

What's a "himer". LOL. You, my friend, are the one who's biased and a hater. C'mon, admit it, it's painfully obvious.

I'm an OU fan and a Stoops supporter, but I wouldn't want Dallas to hire him.

I think you are a little over the top in your hatred for him (and DaHammer is a slanderous liar :D ) but much of your criticism of Stoops has merit.

He definitely has a super-confident arrogant streak in him, which I think can be a big plus at times, but at other times (like the halftime interview of the Sugar Bowl) is just ugly.

I also think he has been caught completely off-guard at times from a coaching standpoint.

But I think you take your hatred of him a bit too far. He has been a great coach for OU all-in-all. He's amassed a great overall record. He's had great recruiting classes, although he's failed to develop some players that were very hyped. He's led the team to three national championship games and won one of them. I know you discount that, but it's a pretty big accomplishment. And until recently, he absolutely owned a Texas team that was highly rated every year.

And most importantly, he's taken OU from being a has-been joke back to being a perennial power.

But I don't think he'd make a great NFL coach, and I would hate to have him in Dallas because all the Horn fans would be looking to jump all over him at every opportunity.

So I agree with quite a bit of your critique but your tone makes me cringe.

Kind of like how they treated Barry Switzer. Stoops will probably stay at OU, unless Jerry's money starts talking loud. LOL

Bob Stoops?

After that display last night and the gutsy calls, why not Chris Peterson, coach of Boise State University?

It's not like the Dallas Cowboys couldn't use his imaginative coaching decisions. :)

Dude get your facts straight. LSU beat Oklahoma 21 to 14 in the 2004 Sugar Bowl. How in the hell is that a manhandling or blowout? When a team has a chance to tie the ball game extremely late in the 4th quarter, most people, (er check that) most sane people would not call that a manhandling or blowout.

Lets give Boise State some damn cred. They blew out Oregon State that beat a pretty dang good USC team. Its not like they are fricking Baylor. That was some of the most balsy playcalling I have ever seen the last period and overtime and I think those plays get 99% of the teams they face. They executed perfectly, no shame in that.

Personally, I think Stoops is a pretty good HC. I have no reason to pump him up, in fact, I'm a Texas fan so I'd probably have more reason to tear him down. Having said that, you start thinking about the talent at certain positions over the last few years, the amount of talent that has gone to the NFL and the amount of coaching personel he's lost to other schools and you have to say that he's done a nice job IMO.

Since the 2000 NC team, Oklahoma has accomplished the following.

2001 11-2 (lost at Nebrask and to OkSt. on the road. Won the Big 12 Championship. Won the Cotton Bowl (?)l over Arkansas.

2002 12-2 (lost to A&M and OKSt, both on the road. Won the Big 12. Beat Wash St. in the Rose Bowl.)

2003 12-2 (Lost to 12-1 KSt. in the Big 12 Championship game in Kansas City, and lost to LSU 21-14 in the Sugar Bowl.)

2004 12-1 (Won the Big 12 again. Only loss was to USC in the Orange Bowl. USC went 12-1 and might have been the best team USC has ever fielded.)

2005 8-4 (lost to everybody. Graduated everybody the year before. Paul Thompson was the QB this year. OU sent 11 players to the NFL in the 05 draft, 7 on the 1st day. Lost to TCU, UCLA, Texas, and TT. Started the season 2 and 3. Finished the season 6-1. Defeated a then 10-1 Oregon team in the Holiday Bowl.)

2006 11-3 (Lost @ Oregon in a home cook job. Got thrashed by Texas in what would be there only real loss of the season and got beat by Boise St. in double OT in the Fiesta Bowl. Won the Big 12 Championship. All this in a season where there best player in injured for several games and there starting QB Bomar is dismissed from the team.

Since the 2000 season, OU has sent 30 players to the NFL. 20 first day selections and 6 1st round picks.

OU has produced:

1 Outland Trophy Winner (Jamal Brown) 1 Maxwell Award Winner (Jason White), 1 Davey O'Brien (Jason White), 1 Heisman Winner (Jason White), 1 Lombardi Winner (Tommie Harris), 1 Chuck Bednarik winner (Teddy Leihman), 1 Dick Butkas Award Winner (Rocky Calmus) and one Jim Thorpe Winner (Roy Williams). Stoops has also been the Coach of the year.

Bob Stoops has also mentored Mike Leach (HC TTech) Mark Mangino (HC Kansas), Chuck Long (HC San Diego St.), Bo Pelini (AHC LSU), Cale Gundy (HC OkSt.) and Mike Stoops (HC Arizona).

I'd say that under the circumstances, that's a pretty respectable job.

Are you SURE you're not an Oklahoma fan? :laugh2:

I commend you for your objectivity and your spirited defense of the Sooner's captain!

There is only one coach that I can think of that I have never seen outcoached and outmanuevered. Chris Peterson. More than likely it will happen to him too as it goes forward. Pete Carroll has exactly one crystal football for all of his success. Even the great Jim Tressel outcoached himself last year in the Texas Ohio State Game and then JoePa owned him last year. It happens to every coach. Chris Peterson called a perfect game. There is no way around it. I mean seriously who tells their defense in overtime before they are going to go for two. "Hey, make sure you watch for the Statue of Liberty play" Get real.
