So you want to draft an OT in the first round huh?

I could go back only to 2002 and say right off we had worse tackles.
Pozderac holds the NFL record for consecutive holding calls at 3.
ANd I do believe he had the season record for penalty yards as well.
AND he gave up plenty of sacks. He was slow and had terrible footwork and was a lot WORSE then Pettiti.

I guess you could say that but you'd be wrong...the tackles didnt hijack the teams offense that yr the way they did last yr

and Pozderek wasnt alot worse than Pettiti either...its arguable who was worse but I seriously doubt you remember enough about seeing him to make an accurate judgement...the one game that stood our for him was the 2nd Giants game that yr, where some penalties wiped out several huge plays...otherwise he was pretty uneventful

I ahve watched every cowboy game I could for 35 years. I wager I have seen more then you. And I remember just about every penalty that Pozderac gave up- it was PAINFULL and I was always screaming and cursing at the screen. ANd 2002 the tackles were horrible- well the right side was. Flo was Ok at the Left. Of course we were signing guys off the street to start back then- YOU DO REMEMBER THAT, don't you?

Isn't that supposed to be the golden rule for all rookies. Especially 6th rounders???

Pettiti was worse than those guys.

And Pettiti wasn't "ok" for any of the games at the start of the season either. But because he was getting constant help, it wasn't as noticable. His play in the 1st Giants' game was an embarrassment.

If we'd had even a decent RT, we'd have made the playoffs.

For me, it's still two or three years too early to judge Petitti; Aikman didn't look very impressive his first year either.

All in all, Petitti did about as well as a late-round rookie playing out of position and with injuries could be expected to play. Now, if he doesn't look any better next year, there may be a problem.

Exactly. So, you get a stop guy that can start and/or backup both tackle spots with ties to the coach that has played at a high level in the league. Fabini.

I am amazed at how many people are totally against even trying to get better.

Agreed. So your point is we should stick with Suisham? I mean, he was just a rookie and all...

Just like people were sure that Hambrick and that Dud would be better.

They just have to be better, I mean there is NO WAY they could be worse...or that is what has been said many many times by many many people.

Any people wonder how we ended up in the mess we're in :D

Seriously though, I heard Ronnie Brown saying that McNeil is an amazin athlete for his side but he is definitely lacking the "mean streak" that most coaches would like to see

I said all along we should have brought in a veteran kicker last off season. Petitti was drafted for the long haul, needed to lose weight, get into better shape, learn the pro game, ect. Throwing him into the action was not the game plan at all. Kickers are thrown into the action immediately. That is why I was an advocate of bringing in a vet kicker last off season. Obviously that was largely ignored by the Cowboy front office. Guess they should have listened to me huh?

Which is an OK deficit for a second rounder but you would want to waste #18 on a guy like that.

you know me better then that Mickey. I'm a BPA kinda guy when it comes to the draft. Then again I wouldnt be against bringing in Fabini as a finger in the dyke (mind out of the gutter) and I'd like to see us take a look at Mike Williams

I wish they had.

But when it comes to Pettiti, I can't think of a rookie that's gotten significant playing time and shown less. I doubt there are more than 2 or 3 rosters in the league he could have made. He was even worse than his dreadful #s show.

I don't think Mike Williams is a legitimate comparison for McNeil. McNeil isn't grossly overweight the way Williams is.

The reason I wouldn't take McNeil at 18 is his back. That's too big a risk in my opinion to take with a 1st round pick.

But I'd take Winston Justice at 18 in a heartbeat.

He was a 6th round pick, how many 6th rounders make the active roster much less start? I supoose you were expecting him to be Jackie Slater

No comparison made. I wouldnt be too thrilled with McNeil as our #1 pick. I was saying seperately I wouldnt mind us "possibly" taking a look at Williams

Nice plan. Let's stand pat with the NFL's worst RT.

So now not reaching for an OT in rd 1 is "standing pat"?

By that logic, we could start a team of late round choices and undrafted free agents, and then hang our hat on the fact they got a lot of experience, even though they were the laughingstock of the league. That arguement is pointless. The guy shows he can play, or he can't.

I expect a player to show something. Pettiti showed me nothing other than that he was the worst starting offensive lineman in the league. He's slow, unathletic, and weak.

If they bring him back to compete for a roster spot, I see no harm in it. But counting on him to play? That's a different story. The season will be lost again if he does.
