Sorry in 2007 with Parcells leaving Dallas no were not rated that high entering the season. Heading into 2008 is when all the talk of SB started taking place and of course our players fell in love with the clippings.
There were a few publications that picked us to make the Super Bowl (Athlon, Sporting News) But nothing compared to the 08 offseason.

At least since 1993.

I think it's somewhat amazing we went 13-12 in 15 games. Defying the laws of mathematics and what not.

But our 13-12 record since that 12-1 start is not really essential since this my stance is no longer Pro-Wade. Based on where I think we're headed there's a strong chance he'll not be the coach come January 1st.

My only point was the Niners, during this season, have accomplished just as much as we have.

That is 3 victories

My only point is that's a naive, simplistic view of the things. Sure 3-2 is 3-2.

But let's say the Patriots started 3-2 a year after going 16-0 and the Lions started 3-2 a year after going 0-16, I bet they'd both view being 3-2 a little differently.

Fact of the matter is, the 49ers were in the basement two years ago. They started out 3-1 before getting drilled this past weekend. As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to see them finish 3-13. But, they seem to be trending in the right direction compared to where they were when Singletary first took over as their HC. Dallas, on the other hand, looks to be on a .500 plateau the last year and a half.

Well I'd say our differences aren't that severe then.

I just differentiate between trends ( past data used to predict the future, but not determinative) and accomplishments (concrete Ws and Ls titles, playoff wins etc...) Perhaps one has to look at both to get a more complete picture of everything.

Yes we are kind of like a yo-yo of late alternating wins and losses as of late. That will get Wade canned and he should be if we continue on this path

Perception vs Reality

Novice fans just love seeing a firey HC on the sidelines. We want to know how much they care and that they will rip into players that don't perform well.

Got news for you guys. Firey HCs lose can games and the attention of their teams as fast as a reserved HC. Perhaps faster.

That act grows tired.

Acting like a demonstrative idiot on the sidelines doesn't make you credible. How many sideline fits did our beloved Landry throw.

There's a lot of proven HCs I would trade Wade for. Singletary is not one of them.
exactly.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings?year=2007&week=1

ESPN also had us rated #8 in their pre-season power rankings. They also predicted we'd finish first in the division but I couldn't access the page with regards to SB predictions.

I don't know what the 49ers will ultimately do under Singletary. But right now they seem to be headed in the right direction. Of course we'll soon find out if this past game was an aberration, or if the first 4 were. I tend to think they are on the upward swing and just got punched in the mouth.

As for us, I think Wade is history at the end of the year, unless by chance we go on some kind of unforeseen run. I

No argument on Wade.

I'm grateful for every victory we put together the rest of the season. We'll see at the end of the year if it's good enough.

Anything less than 10-6 + playoff victory, Wade's a goner.

What's crazy is it was almost a foregone conclusion that Wade would be a goner last year if we finished anywhere short of a SB appearance. Instead we missed the playoffs and in embarrassing fashion and Wade was kept on.

I really wonder if the economy and with Wade having another year on his contract wasn't one of the biggest factors in him coming back this year. And, probably the fact that many of the names being mentioned now, like Holmgren, Shanahan and Cowher all said they weren't going to coach this year but possibly will in 2010.

The special teams coach? That would seem like a reach to me.

Perhaps. John Harbaugh has ended up a good coach but that may be the exception other than the rule

There seems to be some debate between wanting an established vet coach vs a younger coach.

I'm still undecided.

Got a feeling Jerry will go for the vet, though.

I think the only way Jerry won't go for a vet is if he promotes Garrett.

I'd love to get a good young coach in here, but I just don't see one being successful here under the circumstances.
