Some post draft thoughts/opinions

If not for the character issues, many thought Trigg would be a 3rd rd prospect, he is very talented
Doesn't matter. He's still a UDFA. Signing him doesn't mean a lack of confidence in Schoonmaker. If the staff lacked confidence in Schoonmaker, they would have drafted one of the 10,000 tight ends who went in this draft.

Now, maybe Trigg beats out Schoonmaker, and I'm fine with that. For a second-round pick, we haven't gotten a good return on value, so I'd love to trade him and get something out of him rather than have him play out his contract and leave in free agency.

The shocking thing to me was at 10 the Giants didn’t take Downs . That position is held down by JAGS . You team Reese & Downs makes the other 9 that much better . Schoen is a horrible GM but I thought Harbaugh would steady him . You could draft an OT next round . This is why they are lousy for over a decade.
I think they were so focused in on getting first-rounders on both sides of the ball. It was more important for them to try to fix their line after adding a defensive game piece that Downs' value didn't matter enough.

-Notice outside of Lawrence and our receiver in the 7th rd, Cowboys took players from power conferences-Big10/SEC.

-I think the roster has too much youth at a few positions, would be wise to add a veteran or two. Not so much to become progress stoppers, but help with their development. Perfect world you bring along these players slowly rather than throw them in the fire before they are ready.

-Do believe by the end of camp, Downs is going to be wearing the green dot helmet. His football IQ is off the charts. Keep in mind OSU developed a defense around him not those other great players and he was the leading tackler as a freshman with Alabama.

-Big vote of confidence for our 2nd yr running backs in Mafah and Blue as they decided against drafting another back. The opposite for Schoon, Carson, Marist-all will be fighting to keep their roster spots.

-Think they did a good job to give them some options at key positions. For example, if they move on from a Steele or a Bland next offseason, they have options already in place while they develop this season.
Totally agree that Downs will be the green dot guy they just don't want to deflate the LB room and are creating some competition there. I still don't know Blue looked like an idiot last year hopefully he understands his time in the league is limited and it's almost 50% over if he makes nothing out of this season.

Worried Bland won't be himself and we paid him too early...very worried about this lol...

Already have Eze and Gary as starters.

Schoon brings nothing in trade value . Neither would Sam Williams who I’m shocked they brought back but not 8.5 sack vet Clowney .

Never said lack of confidence in him, but rather he has to earn his spot

There is an out in Bland’s contract, I believe after next season

I think as long as the coaching staff is strong, a lack of veterans at certain positions isn't a bad thing. I believe in the youth movement is good for this team. CP is a strong personality to lead this defense.

I like your post and agree pretty much with it . . . except the "too much youth". Youth gives us more physically durable players, more coachable players with fewer things to unlearn, and lastly . . . all important . . . they are cheaper. The early 90's team was young, the mid 70's team was young and both were championship caliber teams.
I agree experience is very important but if those older position players are not teachers then all you have are older players.

Good coaching will make the difference in those young skulls full of teachable mush !

Linebacker is a position that usually gets beaten up throughout the year, add in Overshown who has missed a ton of games and all they have is prospects behind them
Dee Winters It's far from a prospect He played 17 games last year think about this when's the last starting linebacker we had that played all 17 games literally is a journeyman player that will be a starter so let's remember to add that to the list overshown is not our only linebacker Yes we're very young there for sure but sometimes young is good did you fail to read past maybe what was my long post that stated clearly that when the Cowboys were doing this back in 1990 through maybe 90 two it was built with like 90% young players and only when they were ready where they were one player away or close to it on each side of the ball they made moves when they brought in Haley and Dion they had 1st become a very young aggressive team that was on the brink,.

He did that with youth they did it through trades and the draft i'm not saying that's where we're at now i'm just saying don't exaggerate youth could be a good thing..

But I've been on record saying all offseason is that list that was there 4 weeks ago both for linebackers and edge guys have not really changed one single bit..

I don't think there's a name off that list since this holding pattern post FA frenzy, for the draft..

so there's plenty of players the Cowboys want they can go get, we do not need to make a crazy trade for Brooks ,and waste more draft capital, but yes Okareke, Devin White, Bobby Wagner these guys are there you can go get one at any time just like if they want to bring back Clowney they're there and I believe they're looking over here at what the Cowboys are doing on defense and maybe they want to come here and play..

So if one of these veterans who don't have a lot left in their tank you bring them in under a very team friendly deal maybe escalators on playing time and production and what not how many games played etcetera and just have them play very little snaps but could be there in an emergency yes that we could use some guys like that...

I don't know which one of those would fit best but you'd want one that could really help that young room that makes a lot of sense as well..

More can come available post draft and post June 1st
But and some of us have been patient as we should be I mean the last four weeks the NF LS been in what I would call a holding pattern post free agent frenzy pre draft they've been focused on other things and those lists have not been changed so they have plenty of options and you're right there will be more out there some of these guys who had their trades rejected some of these teams are gonna be holding their you know what And then end up cutting the guys and we could go get them for nothing that's a possibility..

But being patient is what some of us has been the voice of reason that this is a process that will take us all the way up to game one and maybe through the trade deadline of getting this team where it needs to be players will be added players will be cut there will be changes made This is a long process I hate to use Garrett's word but it is a process on team building it takes more than a month September is a long ways away lots of things can happen..

I would rather just go with a young kids I do not want any old vet teaching them their bad habits
Yeah, guys Bobby Wagner and Von Miller never understood how to play their positions, so what could anyone learn from them?

Yea ....... we would never get one of them because Jerry does not pay named brand. .......... so sarcasm away.

I think they didn't draft a RB because they didn't have hardly any mid-round picks and this team needed defense, defense, defense. I think if we still had a 2nd round or more 3rd round picks we possible would have seen them take a flier on one somewhere in the draft.

All speculation, however.

Your argument wasn't that Jerry wouldn't hire the right veterans, it was that a young person can only get bad habits from a veteran.

Nobody was suggesting Jerry bring in average or lousy players for younger players to learn from

Sure you weren't.

Stephon Gilmore was a great role model ........ and the last one worthy to bring in as a free agent.

My opinion about the draft?

Awesome! We addressed many big time needs with few reaches. And don't sleep on LT Overton, he skipped his Sr. year in HS, so he is still young and growing.
