Something isn't right

It all starts at the top. The owner wants to play GM. The GM can't get fired. The GM has done a terrible job of hiring a head coach. The head coach has done a terrible job of winning games and actually has found ways to lose games that cost us being out of the playoffs for 4 seasons straight and last season. And all this continues but it all starts at the top. Why do you think we go 12-4 then 3-13 then 14-2 then 5-11. We are a bipolar team.

Perennial also-ran teams tend to get bashed by their fans in roughly this order:

1) current QB
2) current head coach
3) owner/FO

Note: the order will change daily/weekly/monthly, depending.

Just my opinion, but I don't think the issue is Dak as much as it is social media or, more specifically, how social media has evolved over the past few years.

Regardless of the forum or the topic, social media has provided a convenient and "safe" place for any and every crackpot to voice an opinion regardless the facts or evidence. I find it increasingly rare that anyone changes their mind on social media. More often than not, opinions become even more entrenched and the social norms or niceties you might expect in today's work environment disappear.

Let me give you a very quick personal example. I belong a FB chat group that focuses on risk management associated with technical scuba diving (technical diving is defined as beyond the limits of recreational diving -- mixed gases, decompression stops, cave, etc). Very recently, we were reviewing the circumstances associated with the Thai soccer team trapped for about two weeks in a cave system in Thailand. The amount of rancor, bad manners, name-calling that emerged from what should have been a purely technical discussion was disgusting.

I think the "no consequences" social media is to blame... what concerns me is, where does it go from here?

I'm still waiting on Garrett 8 years later. As for Dak it's stupid to hate on him like that because he's a young QB in his second year. And I was very impressed with him in year one. But he has to show improvement this year. I think some are just bitter because of the way Dak took Romo's place.

:hammer:

I have been a fan for a really really REALLY long time. I have seen some of the best and worse come and go.

I have also been on many forums going as far back as the old ESPN forums of the late 90's early 2000's.

I have never, and I mean never witnessed the trashing of any terrible players I can remember years back the way Dak has received as of late.

And we are talking about not only a guy who had a great 1st season but a guy that TECHNICALLY still had a second winning season(9 wins) despite zekes suspension, bad coaching and getting killed because of oline injuries.
I believe most made Romo the exception and fans turned the other cheek on romos flaws for so many years, and the man is damn near a home town hero without having contributed to a single piece of hardware.

We now dak can throw the ball, we seen amazing accuracy and down field passing in 16. We know he can win without a star wideout, he did it without an injured Dez. And we know he can hold his own without an oline and decent RB, he scrapped together 9 wins last year, cassell and weeden would have never even made it close to 9 in the same situation.

The guy took an *** whipping last year and the coaches refused to help him or make adjustments and a lot of you leaned on the "exposed" instead of seeing the real problem or the WHOLE picture.

This fan base is turning weird. It seems more like a lot of fans are looking forward to failure just to have an I told you moment then actually being excited about football.

I believe Dak will have his fair share of 3-4 td passing with a couple rushing td games, and will still have those fans waiting up till the 2min warning of the 4th QTR, for dak to throw that INT just to get their fix.

So I want to know right now. What makes Dak(who has 2 winning seasons under his belt, no matter how you want to spin that 2nd season) any different from the other slew of crappy *** players who have received nothing but slaps in the wrist from fans over the years?

I can go back to the end of the aikman era for a proper begining and don't remember one player that got this kind of treatment.

I for one won't accept the Dak got exposed excuse any longer. And the he isn't Romo excuse is damn near laughable because we all know how that goes.
There are extremes on either side of the bell curve of fan satisfaction/dissatisfaction.
Dak deserves his shot. Two very different seasons to start after no clipboard toting and mentoring. OTJ training at its best.

Probably true for some. I wanted Romo to win the big one, but not at the expense of being crippled. He was running on borrowed time.

Its only a few people.
You're making way too much out of a small fraction of opinions.

To be fair, We did have a short stretch last year of some of the worst performances by our offense in Cowboy history. Record settingly bad stuff.
I dont think its personal.

Some are worried that was not a mirage.

Many of the rest of us (including me) see Dak and the offense bouncing back.
:flagwave:

I sill say this; until recently, I very rarely heard “bad coaching” as an excuse for a QB. It seems to be a blanket excuse now, and it worrisome.
And even with injuries, we still had a better oline last year than most teams ever have.

Anyway, QBs dont have won-loss records....teams do.

Here's to hoping that The TEAM (with Dak as QB) has a great 2018 season.

Ahem, Roy Williams(WR)..................

Not in his first few years he didn't. The Romo chant lasted for awhile.

It cranked up end of year 4, his first yr starting. The stupid botched FG. That is where the label of choker started. Then the following year as the #1 seed losing at home to the Giants. Add in all the media coverage of his girlfriends and being the starting QB of the Cowboys and you have the perfect recipe for tabloid news.

Romo got hammered by his peers, NFL coaches and the media. Dak hate has not come close. And I am glad he has not and hopefully never will.

its been a long time for cowboys fans dak is the qb now and if they don't win he will take most of the blame just as romo did and danny white and dandy don did it will take a lot of really good coaching and a really good team around dak for him to win in the playoffs he is not a guy who will carry the team like the better qb's do he is pretty much alex smith 2.0

Excellent post. I've always welcomed divergent opinions and views because, as my wife is so want to point out, I can be wrong. I may not change my mind after listening to the other view, but I'll at worst case understand where the other person is coming from.

It doesn't take away from your central tenet, but just for clarity, this team has never gone 14-2 since it's inception.
