Something seems different

Lawrence is not a project player IMO. It could go good or bad with any rookie but if you feel he's a project than I'm not sure if you're just hating or we have different definitions of what a project player is.

I just don't see him as a slam dunk player like a Frederick, Martin, Smith, etc. Those guys look like potential decade pro bowlers. DL is more of a guy that has decent potential but you just don't know what he is going to turn into.

Our team was obsessed with a RDE so they can "compete right away" We could have stood pat at #47 in the draft and gotten a solid player and then did the same in the 3rd. Listen, I hope like hell DL turns into a beast and it ends up being an outstanding draft. However, when your team is rebuilding, you don't trade away your early picks. You get as many starters as you can. It's a numbers game.

I don't know what he'll turn into, but I completely agree with you, a team like this can't afford to trade away an early pick.

Ah, we've reached the "This just feels different" portion of the offseason.

Camp's right around the corner.

Man, you should hear the sales job being put on by the people selling the tickets right now. We've been considering upgrading our tickets anyway, but they called saying "that great draft should make your decision easier". I didn't know if they were playing around, or being serious... they were being serious.

Based on the trade chart, the Cowboys 2nd and 3rd were worth R1-30. Basically, they used the equivalent of a very late first on Lawrence.

I don't see any real talent added to the defense to expect much different in 2014. It's bizarre to me how anyone could be optimistic in that regard. However, with some luck on staying healthy and continued growth of young players a playoff berth would not be surprising in the slightest. But that's only because the offense should continue to be good enough to win games on its own.

Who would you liked for them to take at 47 and in the 3rd?

Way too steep. We gave away another starter.

I ask this cause I truly dont know what 3rd rounder do we have on our roster drafted b us starting I ask cause I really dont know I can only think of Murray

Terrence Williams, DeMarco Murray, Jason Witten, (Hatcher was a third). We've actually traded our 3rd away a lot (2014, 2010, 2008,2005).

Realist viewpoint?

I was thinking there was a change too....we cut Ware, let Hatcher walk, drafted Martin with our first pick.. and then they went and took a project player with our #2 pick and gave up our 3rd rounder. A team that is rebuilding does not do that. You don't draft for need when you aren't going to compete right away, you draft BPA. We could have had 3 solid starters and instead we got 1 and one potential starter. Extremely dumb draft and shows that the guys in charge are clueless. When a team has a ton of holes, they need to get as many starters as they possibly can in every draft until they fill all the holes. Then you draft for need. This is a 6-10 team.. don't get your hopes up at all.

can't even imagine this viewpoint .you got your skirt blown up over a 70 point deficient trade. A team that is rebuilding can get the best players they can acquire . All of a sudden BPA is wrong philosophy?
It will take time.

I think that his point is that we could have gotten two starters, rather than one (on a very talent needy team). If that one was a sure thing, then you take a chance on him. In his mind, Lawrence clearly isn't a sure thing.
