Marvel's Kevin Feige to Produce Next Installment of the Spider-Man Franchise with Amy Pascal

(Culver City, California, and Burbank, California February 09, 2015) – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Another reboot?

I am not sure if they will reboot again or just bring Marvel in to help with TASM 3. Personally, I hope they reboot. I thought the original Spiderman was much better than the reboot even if Spiderman 3 was bad. I did not care for the reboot at all. We will at least get to see some Spiderman cameos in the Marvel movies.

Enough of the freaking reboots.

If you want different actors, use different actors but don't start another stinking origin movie...Everyone has seen it multiple times already.

This is soooo exciting!

I wonder if it had anything to do with, that woman leaving Sony?

Another reboot?

I don't think they're going to reboot for a third time, but apparently Andrew Garfield is out as Spiderman. Too bad as I thought he did a fine job with what he had to work with.

My biggest problems with the 'Amazing' films was with the direction and storytelling of Marc Webb.

With this news, I hope that we'll now be able to see Spiderman in Captain America: Civil War. I think that was the big push to get this deal done now.

I thought so at first, but according to comingsoon.net, Amy Pascal was reportedly one of the chief architects in getting the deal done.

I just read it too, she stepped down to be a producer, if I read correctly. Funny how money changes things.

I am wondering if they are trying to do something big with the Avengers.

Age of Ultron? I think the film itself is done filming at this point. But I am wondering if they will try to fill some sort of easter egg to put in a post credits scene?

I think this deal was done now to give them time to get Spiderman into Civil War.

100%

After the last 2 movies... Even part 3 of first set.... They had no choice but to partner up.

3 Fudgin flops in a row.

Going to have to "work him in" like the hulk

Maybe part of the problem is how we view movies. Everyone wants them to be so action packed. Maybe they need more time to develop the characters in these action packed movies.

EX: LOTR and the Hobbit, told from 3 movies a piece. When I sit down to watch them, I am not looking for action action action. I want character development, and the bug battle scenes. Where you sorta see that, over these Capt America/Thor/IM movies to a degree, then you get the action in the Avengers. Spiderman 1 was fantastic, 2 was a pretty good, and 3 was terrible with soo many characters. I literally fast forwarded through the Amazing Spiderman and didn't even bother with the 2nd, probably won't.

Just my 2 cents.

BTW, I do not think Spiderman is anything like the Hulk, where he is more of an add on rather than a leading character. You saw with the 1st 2 movies, he can stand alone, where as All the Hulk movies sucked.

tbh, I'm kind of getting tired of Spiderman movies. There are so many more deserving characters in the Marvel Universe worthy of having their story played out on the big screen.

Because it's always been Sony making the movie. They've always been crap.

I think given the chance now, Marvel will make them much, much better. Not only that....he can now appear in other titles. Win for fans and execs alike.

I do agree, many characters deserve a movie or two, though.

Good points. In addition to what you said.... For me, I want it all when it comes to these films. I want the epic/action/charisma/levity kind of movie.

Superman 1 and 2, spiderman 1 and especially 2, captured most of those things.

I am partial to the hulk in some ways. I think it can be done correctly. As a lead. They just haven't done it right.
His roots, his powers ultimately (oh, I am partial to the tv series story) are a result of love, loss, wife, death, failure, conflict etc.

Wow. I heard this rumor but did not think they would actually get it done. I really wish they had not have rebooted Spider-man already because his character is growing tiresome, but I don't think this would have gotten done if they had not produced such a messy sequel.

Still, hopeful for what this is going to end up like. I wonder how they're going to make this work since the rumor is Garfield will be out as Parker for reasons similar to why they got rid of McGuire.
