Source: Deron Williams prefers Nets or Lakers

just for the record, there were reasons why stern vetoed the CP3 trade, for one, it would give the hornets some pretty big contracts that didnt expire for a while, stern wanted to have as small amount of depth as possible for the new owner, and the clippers trade was a MUCH better business trade, which is what was needed to sell the team. secondly, dont forget that a lot of owners, including cuban, wanted the trade vetoed. In the end, the league was owned by the 31 owners of the league, and they ultimately had the final say, and for whatever reason, most of them wanted the trade vetoed, and so it was.

In summation, the Lakers got screwed.

yes, but not entirely by stern. id say most of the blame would go to the owners, including cuban, who was very vocal about the trade being vetoed before it happened

That's a fair statement. It is what it is.

First of all, you don't know what the trade might be. Secondly, in a post oriented offense, you gotta have a great PG and we don't have that.

We had a post oriented offense for years and our best point guard during that time was Derek Fisher. If its a straight up swap then it doesn't make any sense at all.

This is not entirely accurate. First of all, when we had Kobe, Shaq and Fisher ( assume this is the offense you are talking about?) Kobe brought up the ball a lot of the time so he was playing PG much of the time. Secondly, Fisher was a pretty good PG when he was young. How old are you?

17, but Fisher was never more than an average point guard. His best season statistically wasn't even in L.A. it was in Golden State.q

This is the problem. You didn't watch those teams play, am I right? He was exactly the right Guard to match with Kobe in that offense. Stats won't tell you that. You have to have watched them.

You can't compare the post offense we had with Shaq and Kobe to the one we run now. We don't have anywhere near the dominating post player we had with Shaq. In that offense, we really didn't need a scorer. Kobe initiated the offense most of the time and so what we needed was a guy who didn't turn the ball over, could provide outside 3 pt shooting, play good defense and basically do the little things. That was Fisher. In this offense, you do need a PG because Kobe is not young anymore, he can't be counted on to always bring up the ball and we don't have a guy in the post who commands double and triple teams. We need a great PG in this offense.

I actually started watching basketball in the 1st lockout so yes I watched those teams. I understand Kobe is older and I'd love to get a star point guard, but not at the price of Bynum. I just can't give up on that kid yet. He's got so much potential (He's kinda like our Dez Bryant) and this past season we saw how dominant he can be. He needs to mature and get more consistent, but I believe that'll come. If we can get Deron without giving up Bynum great if not I wouldn't do it. We should go after Nash. Getting Nash and keeping Drew is much better than getting Deron and losing Drew.

The 1st lock out? I assume you mean the lock out of 1998? You would have been 4. You could not have watched much of that team as Shaq was gone by 2004. Be that as it may, if you did watch them, then you know that what I am saying is true. There is nothing that says a trade is going to be for Bynum. It could be but there is no proof of that.

Bynum is in his 7th season. I think that what you see now with Bynum is what he is. He's not a great player, he's a very good player who would be an even better player if he had a great PG to help him.

I disagree. To me Bynum is the best big in the game. He's already a great player, but he can get a lot better. He can get a lot more consistent, get better defensively, more advanced offensively, and can improve his passing out of double teams. Bottom line if we have to trade Bynum which we most likely will for Deron I'm not doing it and I doubt Jim/Mitch would either. New Jersey doesn't want Pau so it would have to be a 3 team deal which are very hard to complete.
