That's my dilemma. There are two thought processes here.

For the team, taking the suspension now and just getting it out of the way, is probably best. If we were talking say a gun charge or DUI, I'd say take the penalty and just get it out of the way.

But this is much worse. He's basically been called a woman beater by the NFL whereas the legal system has said he is not. How can you expect a guy to just accept a punishment if he's truly innocent (and I tend to think he's innocent or more specifically, there isn't enough evidence to prove he did what she alleges) and put himself in a situation where the next time he gets in trouble off the field the league could chuck him out permanently?

It's really a tough situation for the Cowboys and Elliott.
He doesn't even have to get in trouble. Somebody could lie on him and it's over.

Between the Zeke drama, the complete failure of the defense and of course the unmentionable, I am really struggling to care about the NFL right now. I will watch the Cowboys and still be stressed about the game like any fan, but I am finding myself completely shutting off the NFL during the week. I come in here to read/post a few things, but that's about it. Maybe that's a good thing.

Ditto. Losing interest in the entire league. Used to be hooked to the TV on Sunday. Red Zone etc. Now its like what else is there to do. Still good for a raining day if I want to watch it for a while and take a nap.

Same here. All of this junk that's going around the league right now is turning me off to it.

Sports was where you went for an escape from the harsh realities of life, where you could be free of that stuff for a while. And now this crap has even invaded that. Now, even football doesn't provide a break.

Yet you are on an NFL board discussing NFL topics, doesn't sound like completely shutting it off to me.

There are those of us who have less interest in watching the current product but still love the game and the team. Some of my deepest childhood memories revolve around the NFL in general and the Cowboys in particular. I will never lose those memories or the emotional attachment to the game and the team.

Maybe those of us who have those deep NFL roots are most depressed by the present morass. Maybe present circumstances seem particularly depressing because we're reminded of how much we loved the game and the team. I find myself deeply offended by Roger Goodell, which is on the surface an irrational emotion. I don't know Goodell. But his regime has, in my view, been very bad for the NFL. There isn't any point in rehashing the reasons, which are numerous and complex. And Goodell isn't wholly responsible.

But I used to know when someone had caught a football.

It really shouldn't be.

This isn't a case of her word versus his word and she doesn't have enough evidence to find him guilty (either by court of law or by NFL standards).

This is a case of her accusing EE of assualt...her lacking any legitimate evidence of assault while he has an enormous amount of evidence that proves she has lied about the assault and is attempting to ruin his career because he has broken up with her. It's also a case about her claiming to have over a half dozen witnesses that would vouch for her claims and outside of her aunt, every single one of those witnesses has vouched for EE and against her. And there are numerous witnesses which include law enforcement that have have done the same thing.

Remember, one more incident and now his career is likely all but over. And given how the NFL has sided with Thompson in this case, there is nothing to lead us to believe that the next female to accuse EE will undoubtedly get EE banned from the NFL. This makes for a high probability of females willing to extort EE because the NFL has shown that it allowed Thompson to try and extort EE already.

Sorry, but all of this is a helluva lot more important than football.

Article 46 unfortunately will be our downfall

He still needs credible evidence, per the CBA. And the DV policy wasn't even part of the CBA. So there's wiggle room here. But I agree that no chance a NY court rules against the NFL, thus the jurisdiction fight.

I am in the boat that really has been turned off by the NFL. I have watched 4 games this year, the only ones the Cowboys were televised in my area. I will continue to do that. I really don't care to watch any other NFL team. I haven't even turned on the NFL Network this year one time (only NFL programming I used to watch, never ESPN). I usually buy 1 or 2 jersey's or shirts a season, this year, none. Just sick of all the nonsense going on in the NFL these days and I won't spend my money on it until things change. Even cancelled DTV, after 15 years because of it.

The NFL would like folks to think this is a tough situation for the Cowboys and Elliot to be in. Clearly @Sydla has fall for that fallacy. Those that know the facts aren't fooled. Thank you for your informed opinion.

Of course it is. But in reality, there is a benefit to the team if he takes the suspension earlier rather than later. That's pretty obvious. And let's also note, this isn't a criminal trial where facts and evidence will be presented and the court will rule based on the evidence. It's simply a fight over procedural issues. It's very possible he could lose this battle.

Doesn't mean he should sit now, I never suggested that. But certainly, if this thing dies in court and he has to sit out the first 6 games in 2018, that's not an ideal outcome for the team.

LOL.

Is this going to be your new tactic after getting embarrassed in the other thread? Try to pick a fight with me in other threads? Hahahahahahaha.

Even better if he doesn't sit out at all.

LOL.

Are you now going to go thread to thread and try to pick on me because you are bitter that you got schooled in that other thread?

You also clearly haven't read my full opinions on the Elliott matter either. But hey, why not let your ignorance spill over into multiple threads!
I roam the threads just like you do. It's not my fault we find the same threads relevant to post in. Your delusional victories in other threads is adorable.:p You have the audacity to complain about my post when you are posting lame drivel like... "It's really a tough situation for the Cowboys and Elliott.":lmao::lmao2:

Get over yourself. I debate all opinions I disagree with. At the moment, yours just so happens to be the one getting my flack.

Exactly but there clearly is a big risk here that he will lose in court.
The only risk is being judged by a judge not interested in justice. The facts are clearly in favor of Elliot.

You're missing my point.

This is bigger than football. And this is bigger than him missing 6 games at any point. And this is more important than the impact it has on the team because he's not playing.

I understand that it's not a criminal court case going over his situation with Thompson, but being able to win the case based on procedures which includes 'fairness' would be a positive for EE's reputation in the long run. And the more exposure of the NFL's investigative tactics and how they ruled the more things swing in EE's favor in the court of public opinion.

I honestly don't give a damn about scheduling him to miss 6 games at the 'right time.' I care about a man who was falsely accused of assaulting a woman and how the Columbus DA's office, the NFL and our society has gone out of their way to protect this woman despite breaking the law on numerous occasions, being caught lying about the situation on numerous occasions all the while vilifying an innocent man.

And if the organization and the fans take issue with it, then they deserve all of the failure coming to them.
