Spagnola: This Guy (Leary) On The Cowboys Offensive Line Radar

Ahh, the "process".

So according to you, JG should never be let go, even if he never gets us to the postseason.. because after all, its a 'process' and you have to give him the time he needs to execute his plan, right? Even if that takes a decade or more?

And according to you, Tom Landry wouldn't have lasted past his first 2seasons in Dallas.

Stash - what Spags was meaning is the team is snickering at those that have pointed out the lack of upgrade on this line. The team knows better.

I wonder if Jerry sent an email to Mickey or passed him in the hallway at VR and suggested this article.

Stash understands, he just doesn't agree. The decision makers on this team could put all of their heads together & not have a full brain, & they know better. :lmao: They have a choice between Doug Free or Jeremy Parnell at RT...'nuff said.

Leary may very well be good OL. But once again Dallas is trying to fit square peg in round hole. Leary is your classic man-blocking mauler. Unfortunately Dallas runs a zone blocking scheme. I have no doubt Dallas will throw him in there and like many of their moves...pray like heck something sticks. A broken clock is right twice a day.

Wasn't this guy value as 3 rd talent ?

Maybe there is some hype behind this guy but I do know Spag is one those yes men over there at DC.

I think the team legitimately likes him. But it's a pet peeve of mine when a college FA gets props when someone leaks that he was considered a 3rd round talent. How often does it happen that 3rd round guys get passed up 5 times by the team that rated them that way, not including every other team, and they're still considered 3rd round talents? As far as I'm concerned, once the draft happens, it hardly matters what the player was hypothetically rated anymore. Now he's a college FA who needs to work his butt off just like any other college FA.

That said, I love it when FAs earn playing time. Those guys tend to get devalued because of where they come from (it happened to Costa, it happened to Miles when Jerry said he could replace TO). It happened to Romo when he beat out Henson. When they develop, though, it's a great story and something that makes me like the guy just a little bit more than I did to begin with. I hope Leary earns some snaps.

He had a 3rd round grade until they found out about the knee. Nobody wanted to risk a pick on him. It does happen even when there isn't an injury. Cowboys had a 1st round grade on Navarro Bowman and he fell all the way to the 3rd round. Sucks they swapped their 3rd for NEP's 4th for Dez and missed out on him.

Except for the fact that, that's completely untrue. :)

That was an unfortunate incident. But surely you don't use that as a referendum on the entire organizational structure.

Yes, I think it has gotten better in that regard. I think we have a team that is more dedicated to football and each other than we have seen in some time. Does that make them less human? Less prone to making mistakes? I say no. You?

What response to this do you want? I too am ready to see progress on the field. In fact I have seen progress on the field.

Im not sure what "knuckleheads" you thought we had before, but like i said, before it was guys who were complaining that they wanted the ball more. Now we have two guys on the team getting smashed, wasted and getting in a car together. Both stupid mistakes, and if it isn't enough that one of our players lost his life over it.. we have another player go and do the same thing not even a year later and get arrested for it. Then you have Dez and all his off the field distractions in recent years.. i'd say its business as usual in that dept.

As for progress.. i agree. Im ready to see some on the field progress. Wins and losses sure.. but what i still don't see either is the principles that JG preaches on the reg. Discipline, intelligence, etc..

I still see the same sloppy play, dumb penalties, bad mistakes, etc.. that we saw under Wade when all that was attributed to "Camp Cupcake."

No doubt the defense was majorly banged up last year, but that shouldn't change our approach. We don't play smart alot of the time, we don't play like we look prepared. Far too often the team looks sloppy and unorganized. Can't have that anymore. In the past, its been attributed to dumb players, and we were told by some here that we had to let Garrett have some time to get his guys in here. Well he's had a few offseasons now, he's got his guys here, so i look forward to seeing much less of that garbage this season.

Again, don't get me wrong. I do love the young talent we have on this team.. im just ready to take the next step in the "process" and start seeing some big time on field results this season. Bottom line, we need to be in the postseason.

Two. If you want to be exact. One full offseason if you take away the strike.

Would it make you feel better if i said "a couple" instead of "a few"?

..and honestly, he's been running the offense for alot longer than just the past couple seasons, so i really don't buy into the fact that he didn't already have alot of guys he wanted on that side of the ball already.

that is absolutely BS to try and claim the Strike really had that much of a impact. Very temporary and very slight. That has been a convenient EXCUSE for way too long. 4 months at the frankly least important time of year.

OTA's and the like are only really important if you are changing systems. We were not.

They had a full camp right after it was over. The strike really meant very little.

It sure didn't seem to hurt the 49'ers too much when that team was changing both coaching staff and schemes.

They somehow managed to go to the NFC Championship Game.

Might be BS to you but I think it's BS to call it an excuse.

There are all kinds of excuses used on this board for the problems of performance this team has had.

Sometimes they are legit and viable excuses, sometimes they are not.

I remember people wanting Jimmie's head after 1-15 and 7-9 seasons and trading away Herschel. Even Troy was like "WTH?? you just traded away our best player?" And while I don't hate him, Mickey is a bit of a cheerleader.Although he does have some football knowledge IMO.

Just hope Leary can make big strides this coming season. I know Callahan thought a lot of him and I'm looking forward to seeing if he can take the next step.
