Saprano was probably our most excitable coach. He isn't a laid back person.
He IS going to want to have some say in Miami. He having worked with Parcells I would say it's safe he knows exactly how much say he is going to have. I would bet they discussed it at length.

Sure Parcells always wanted to buy the groceries, it's probably what he does best.

And coaches have taken jobs only to regret it later. These are different roles and yes BP is good at buying the groceries but as HC he knew what he wanted it was his butt on the line and he wanted a say who would fit into his style and system. Having worked with BP well this is not the same situation and the roles are different. HC to assistant coach is different than HC to head of football operations both are position of power within a team as assistant the HC is still the main man and every player knows it. So to compare their past relations it is not the same given the nature of the 2 mens roles.

I guess I just have to think some people are smarter than to screw themselves. I'm sure Sparano knows what he's walking into. I'm also sure if he was thinking it wouldn't be good for him and his future he wouldn't do it.

I'm also positive he loves the Cowboys. This couldn't have been an easy decision for him.

This has nothing to do with the Cowboys as to why I made the comment. I figured he would be gone be it Mia, Alt or Balt. And I hold no ill will towards him or BP. So my comments are not based on how dare he leave I figured he would and wish him the best. I'm just looking at what I find to be a strange structure and I just don't think it is a great situation for any coach. As for being smart I think he is but one does not know he has screwed himself until he is screwed.

I would agree with you IF He and Parcells had no history.
I really think Sparano knows what he is walking into.

I'm suprised that no one is talking about Sparano being hired by the Dolphins.
ESPN has it on their banner on the TV feed.

I'm not that unhappy that he's going. If he was such a good OL coach why did Romo have to come in and replace Bledsoe? Seems to me everybody from John Madden to Joe Buck have commented how Tony has made our OL look better than they really are. I'd love to see Jerry pursue Joe Bugle of the Commanders. He may not want to leave there, having "invented" "the Hogs" during his stint w/ Joe Gibbs' first stint there. He was well liked in AZ as HC and his players actively lobbied to keep him there. He wasn't too successful as HC at Oakland, but then again, who is?

I'd also give a thumbs up to Jim Erkenbeck (sp??) who Tom Landry brought in in the late '80's and was responsible for bring in guys like Mark Tuinei (sp?) and Nate Newton and put the basics in place for the line of the '90's. I thought he was still coaching (Rams/Chargers/??) a couple of years ago. Of course Hudson Houck (sp?) is someone with whom Jerry is already familiar and he has been let go by BP in Miami.

The 2ndary and special teams coaches also need to be addressed IHMO. I know Coach Joe is still out there and Jim Bates just got the axe from Denver and I think they could come in here and be very successful...

I'm just saying the roles are completely different this is no longer HC to assistant coach this is Director of football operations to GM to HC it is not as clear cut as assistant coach under a HC where the lines are pretty clear cut. I hope it works out for him but would not be shocked or surprised if it doesn't. So the history you are talking about is a different history this is a new ball game

I don't want to keep this going but, hasn't he worked with both of them?
I just watched the replay of his PC. He said he's there because he wants to be there. I have no reason to doubt him. He looks excited about getting the Dolphins back to respectability.

Doomsday knows that Sparano is making a huge mistake, only Sparano doesn't know it yet. Sparano, as we all know, would be less qualified to judge whether or not he's making the right decision, due to his lack of experience in dealing with Duane Parcells as a boss.

It all makes sense.

Lots of morons have gone back to work repeatedly for that dictator. That Belichick guy who took the DC job under him three seperate times strikes me as one dim bulb.

I said it could be a mistake, again with putting words in my mouth, you have an opinion state it but don't go running your mouth and changing up what I have said to fit your own simple minded agenda. Many people in their life time go into somethings thinking it will work out a certain way only to find out later it was not exactly what I thought. As I said being an assistant coach working for a HC is different than what the setup in Miami is, so this is not the same no matter how you want to spin it.

I'm not saying he is not excited this is an opportunity some people jump in with both feet and then find out hey this not what I signed up for. Campo jumped at a job he had no authority with the team or players he did what he was told and he coached who the team brought in with very little say so but when the shoe fell it was his shoe. If a HC is not given the proper authority to run a team he will not make it. I don't know nor do you or anyone else know what type of real control Sparano has in this job or did you have breakfast with him and he just told you hey BP is going to allow me to run things my way? I hope it does work out but I'm not that naive to think this is a sure thing.

If you have access to it, watch Sparanos PC. He pretty much sums up our discussion.

Miami Dolphins' new head coach, Tony Sparano, talks about his goals Wednesday during a press conference.

* Sorry, Sparano: You have to earn our trust
* Signs say Sparano hiring imminent

When Dolphins cornerback Will Allen walked into the team's training facility Wednesday for a routine visit, his day was greeted with some welcomed news.

''They told me we had a new coach,'' Allen said. ``I'm just excited to get moving. That's it.''

Allen's simple sentiment might have properly put into perspective the precise feeling that was resonating through Dolphins camp Wednesday following Miami's introduction of Tony Sparano as its fifth head coach in as many years.

Time to put last season in the past. And time to hope this next coach can do something each of the past few couldn't: Get the Dolphins to the playoffs.

''I don't really care what happened in the past,'' Sparano said, who signed a four-year deal worth just under $11 million. ``I'm not afraid of challenges. I look forward to them.''

However, Sparano would make no promises about the future. He would not set out a timetable for success, refusing to walk the thin line of setting high expectations or exciting a fan base.

''I can't make any promises about anything,'' Sparano said. ``I'm here because I want to be and I believe I can handle the job and get this team to where it needs to be. I can't worry about what's happened in the past.''

Instead, the no-nonsense coach wants only to do what he was brought here for.

''There are no promises, there are no commitments, there are none of those things right now,'' Sparano said. ``That's not what I do. I coach. I'm here to coach this football team, to help them get better, to help them improve in any way I can and develop our young players, to do all the things that I believe in and that I know Jeff and Coach [Bill] Parcells believe in as well.''

Sparano's hiring puts the finishing touches on a new trifecta of power in Miami, which also includes vice president of football operations Parcells and general manager Jeff Ireland.

Owner Wayne Huizenga, who has invested millions in this fresh start just one year after initially hiring former coach Cam Cameron, now hopes his money will finally get the Dolphins back on a track toward success that the organization hasn't felt in years.

Sparano will begin assembling his staff immediately. He said he does not anticipate attending next week's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., where scouts and coaches typically assemble. Instead, Sparano will stay home to hire assistants.

Look for Sparano to soon contact Cowboys secondary coach Todd Bowles and Cowboys linebackers coach Paul Pasqualoni (both who have expiring contracts in Dallas) about joining his new staff in Miami.

Sparano, an offensive mind who called plays in Dallas two years ago, also said he was unsure whether he would be the one calling plays next season (like Cameron did last season) or whether he would delegate such responsibilities to someone on his staff.

During his news conference, Sparano noted his high respect for Parcells, whom he credited for getting him to the point where he is ready to be a head coach.

''I know Coach Parcells is here as a resource for me and I'm going to use him every way I can,'' Sparano said. ``He's been through a lot of battles. He's won a lot of battles in this league, and I respect him tremendously. He knows that. I'm going to ask as many questions as I possibly can and continue to learn.''

But Sparano also said he believes in his own ability to coach -- and although he will look toward Parcells for guidance, he will still have his own ways of doing things.

''That being said, I have a way,'' Sparano said. ``I understand that way. I know that Coach Parcells, Jeff, and Mr. Huizenga know that I understand that way, and that's the way I hope we go about it.''
