Behind James, Canty and Spears were our biggest liability last year. However, Spears was and has been more woeful than Canty since he got here. At least Canty is solid on the run sometimes. Spears doesn't check off the run quickly enough and doesn't play with the leverage his frame should allow him.

This thread, as is now being stated, is silly, because it is pretty unlikely this will happen. That being said, it's sillier to try to defend Spears because of some 'scheme/coaching' nonsense. I had absolutely no feeling on him being drafted - I didn't know the player, and I was happy we DIDN'T draft Matt Jones. But he hasn't shown anything, and it's wearing thin.

He was asked who, besides Ware, does he expect to be his "playmakers" on defense...

His first 3 responses were Roy ("he's made an impact for us in his limited time in preseason, and he's a Pro Bowl player"... slightly paraphrased), Newman ("of course, I expect Terence Newman to have a good year"), and Bradie James ("I just think more and more of him every day").

Sure hope he's right on Newman.

FYI, his only other mention was the entire DL ("Those 5 or 6 guys are pretty impressive guys").
