Special teams makes me mad

First, it was diminishing one of the top returners in the league last year. It was clear that Sorenson didn't really have a plan for returns and just was relying on Turpin to use his natural ability to make something out of nothing. We saw more of that in the opener against the Giants IMO.

Now, it's Aubrey. At the end of last season, we saw some concerns about his accuracy. Instead of bringing in a kicking coach to work with him to make sure things were sorted, we seem to have relied on Aubrey to get it straightened out. Well, it wasn't straightened out Sunday night.

What we have on special teams should be a strength of this team. Instead, we have a coordinator who doesn't seem to be doing anything to support the talent we have there. Every player needs coaching. Every unit needs a plan. And I just don't see one here, and it's frustrating because of the talent level.

I will NEVER understand the decision to keep Sorenson. I screamed for him to fired all off season. Special teams were a disaster last year, and so far, it doesn’t look like anything has changed. Turpin’s body language after these returns says it all.

At some point, you have to ask what exactly is improving here. If the unit was already a problem and you bring the same guy back, then get the same problems again, what are we doing? Makes ZERO sense.

I would’ve begged Bones to come back. At least we knew what we were getting with him. Just one game, but right now, special teams feels like the same mess as last year.

Automatic Aubrey has a holder problem. When it's good, he can still boom them like in preseason. When it's not.........

Probably as simple as Jerry not wanting to pay two coordinators to not coach for him.

We're lucky enough he got rid of Eberflus.

Eberflus was hired by SF, so Jerry not on the hook to pay him. Only the difference if his pay was less.
If more, Jerry pays nothing.

Yeah, it was the one hiring I really questioned last year. Sorenson had one year of experience as a special teams coordinator and it wasn't very good. It seems like he was hired for who he knows (No-Schott) more than what he knows. I haven't seen any good that he's done for our special teams ... and that bugs me more than the defense struggling or offense not being perfect because we know we have the hosses on special teams if we'll just properly support them.

Not saying I'm worried about him, just that we saw some shakiness from him at the end of last season and I believe a sound ST coordinator would try to make sure that got fixed. I mean, would it have hurt to bring in former Cowboy Chris Boniol, who helped Aubrey perfect his craft?

Sorenson isn't a kicker, so his knowledge of what it takes is limited. I would have gone to No-Schott and Jerry and said, hey, can we bring in someone like Boniol to work with Butter to make sure we're good to go?

Said before that the new KO rules have really neutralized Turpin…. Hurts the team more when he runs them back now. Problem league wide actually.

Punt returns have always been a crapshoot.

And yet....we devote way more roster spots to special teams than most...and we can't block up anything to make a return. That's on our coach. How about return to the right....Find the wall???? Sound familiar???? Anybody????

I believe that was a decision made by the kicking coach because Aubrey could kick knuckleballs, not because he can't kick it high and short of the goal line.

It’s a fall evening not the ICE bowl in GB the leagues highest paid kicker needs to make a 48 yard extra point when you’re gasping on lasts breaths to try and pull out a miracle . His other extra points were hold your breath are they going wide moments .

Maybe it was bad snaps ….I would expect with 100 degree weather Sunday in climate controlled Art Gallery Aubrey will look better .

Turpin is getting Dallas to the 25 on kickoffs . Unacceptable . I thought Anthony Smith should have been given that duty in pre season and the boards reaction was a cross between that’s insane and dismissive . For whatever reason the kick return game is flatter then an IHOP pancake .

It was a flag on virtually ever punt or kick off return last year. I eventually would become genuinely surprised when a penalty wasn't called.

There's logical rationale for keeping Sorenson.
