you guys watch any football? Two late round picks for McFadden is a steal. McFadden is exactly what Dallas needs. An explosive, fast, all purpose RB that can start with Barber getting what he does best and that is moving the pile. Elite players are what separate the good teams from the great ones and McFadden is elite.

A defensive coordinator has no problems with Dallas next year as the roster looks now. Owens (another year slower) Crayton, Barber and Witten. Not a lot of speed there.

There are several backs out there that are faster than McFadden and we can draft them ourselves without having to give up any other picks. I like McFadden, but no way should we give up two first round picks, plus additinal picks, for him. We can get Felix Jones, Slaton, or any number of other fast backs and still draft a top notch cover corner and a wide receiver. I don't want to give our entire draft away for McFadden.

#22 and #29 are a steal for DMac. That said, that's terrible value to a team with a top five pick and I'm not forking over another first to do so.

You're going to hear hundreds of rumors up to draft day and less than 5% of them will come true.

Also keep in mind that perception will change on a daily basis. Those sour on DMac right now will watch him run a 4.35, 40+ vert at the combine and suddenly salivate over him.

I certainly hope not, but then again, I remember trading away two first round picks for Galloway. When I remember that, I puke in my mouth just a little. Don't wanna do that again.

If Jerry pulls this move and gets McF, I'll be very happy.

All the yards he got in the SEC were well earned. Especially since he was the main focal point on their offense.

Put eight men in the box to stop McFadden with the Dallas passing game. Go ahead, make me happy. Yeah, put one-on-one coverage on the receivers.

rather than trade up imo use the cowboys (not browns) pick to take felix jones, who's a better complement to barber (mcfadden needs more carries to perform well). that browns pick can be used on either a receiver or db.

also with ferguson possibly coming back and tank still around, what if ratliff took over for spears? i like a canty/ferguson/ratliff line better than canty/ratliff/spears.

I find myself wondering how long it's been since a back made the Pro Bowl, an didn't even gain 1000 yards... IOW, I think his selection to the Pro Bowl is pretty much a joke...

Guess you don't remember that Ham once "ripped off" 189 yards against the Skins, on 12/14/03... in fact, that was one of five 100 yard efforts he had with the Cowboys...he had 20 for 127 against the Falcons and 10 for 107 against the Iggles in 2001, 21 for 100 against the Skins in 03 again, and 24 for 127 against the Jets...

You might find my comparison to be "comedy gold", but it is in fact a very fair comparison... when Hambrick split carries with Emmitt, he averaged 5.1 yards per carry, even more than Barber has averaged the last 2 seasons... and when the Boys called on him to carry the ball 275 times in a season, he averaged all of 3.5 yards per carry...

Soooo, he was a stud in a rotation, a dud when he was asked to be the feature back... now we have Barber, who has been a stud in a rotation, but whose extremely physical style suggests he'll have a hard time getting through a 300 plus carry season intact....

Yup, it seems like an extremely apt comparison to me... of course, just because it worked that way for Hambrick, it doesn't automatically mean it'll work that way for Barber, but the historical parallels are there, and ought to give a THINKING man cause for concern...

Because if you ask Barber to carry the ball 300 plus times in a season, you'll get him killed...

And how many CARRIES did he have in those first 16 games??

Chuckle... when exactly did I bring up "character" issues in this thread??

What's sad, albeit comical, is your problems with me run so deep that you drag up the most irrelevant crapola, just because you wanna pick a fight... that says a great deal about YOUR character...

And wasn't charged with anything in either one... apparently, both times he was sticking up for either his property, or for his family (in the first incident, he caught some jagoff trying to steal either his car, or one that belonged to a relative, in the more recent incident he got pissed when somebody suckerpunched his brother... WOW, what a troublemaker!!!

Meanwhile, Brandon capped off a few rounds at some guys who took shots at his buddies... which is justifiable, except it also means he's the kind of guy who runs around strapped... a man that age running around with gun does bother me, yeah...

Then there's the matter of that ugly, ugly brawl that he helped instigate against Florida International... you remember, the one that got him suspended; how many suspensions has McFadden had??

Yup, that's what it tells me, all right... and that's ALL it tells me, except that he gets angry when somebody tries to rip off his ride, or punches a family member...

I've seen more bar fights than I could count... you must hang out at some really wussy bars...

Somehow, I find having my morality questioned by a man who thinks dog fighting ought to be legal to be both amusing and contemptible, all at the same time...

None of them has the potential that McFadden has... oh, one or more of them might eventually develop into a better RB, but unless you can show me which ones, and GUARANTEE that your judgement is on the money, I'm gonna favor doing what you can to get the one with the best odds of reaching greatness...

You seem to think that getting McFadden is my first, last and only plan... this just demonstrates that you don't have a clue what you're talking about...

As is typical you miss the forest for the trees. I read the first few paragraphs of your spam and realized youre simply trying the lame 'spread' tactic in debate where you hope that the quantity of nonsense you spew intimidates your opponent. its all just a part of your bluster.

1) Its prima facia that Barber is in no way shape or form a similar player to Hambrick. The fact that you keep saying just shows how pathetic your stance is.

Barber had over 200 carries and still gained more yards than Hambrick in his feature year with 50 more carries.

2) Name 10 RB that are better than Barber. It really fun to bash him but he did lead the league in TDs in 2006 and he made the probowl this year. Typically the joke 'aspect' is that it is difficult to unseat an incumbent like Allen or Williams and not that they break people in that have no business breaking in.

3) Like i said you are simply glossing over the fact that hes been in 2 bar fights in a year. Thats typically what people call a trend. Additionally the fact that he was 'so worked up' that the police had to restrain him should tell you something but you for some reason think thats a good thing.

The Escalade thing is pointless because the NCAA refusing to pay market value for their athletes is a travesty of free enterprise. OTOH when you have a guy that runs to confrontation and not away from it and then gets aggressive tot he point where cops have to restrain him and then throw on top of that he likes to live a larger than life lifestyle that makes him a target that should concern you.

4) You are talking about drafting him at a spot where he would demand upwards of a $20 million SB. Money has a habit of amplifying people. What do you think a personality like McFadden is going to do with all that money?

Now sure some talents like Deion were able to balance that but there are countless tales of talent that cannot and giving that type of personality that kind of money should at the very least make one think.

To not would simply not be prudent.

We actually have legitimate areas of serious NEED and RB is not one of them. We aren't perfect at RB but we have other areas that need attention so giving up 2 1st rounders for McFadden would be foolish.

While a RB like McFadden would add something special to this team, we also need help at CB and WR as well. As many people continue to point out about Jones' interest in players from Arkansas, let him pick up Felix Jones, McFadden's RB partner, if he is interested in bringing in a RB from Arkansas, but it would be too costly to get McFadden though. A CB and WR would be better picks, IMO with our early picks, with RB not too far behind.

FWIW, I agree with the people who are arguing to let Barber split time with another back. I think he's perfectly capable of getting through a season, but the worry is that you would shorten his career. I don't believe Clinton Portis is the same running back he was two years ago because his physical style wore down his body.

Correct me if I am wrong... but doesnt Jerry have a little leverage here? Davis doesnt want to pay a high draft pick again.... so we give him a 1st and a 3rd or something or a 1st and next years 2nd - no?

Our legitimate needs can be solved via FA and whatever would be left of our draft picks after the Great McFadden Giveaway of 2008.

There are great CBs available in FA. That's glaring need #1. I'd like an NT but not everybody agrees and I'm willing to put that pick off until the 2nd day. We could use an upgrade at LG. Okay, that's a 2nd or 3rd rounder. WR -- Roy Williams could happen... and so on an so on...

The number and seriousness of holes this year is the lowest it has been in several years. If we really decide that McF is worth it, we'll get by.

I'm on the fence myself, BTW.
