Apparently, Baltimore contacted Dallas about a swap of players. Roy and Greg Ellis for Ed Reed and Ray Lewis.

The rest is just speculation on why Cowboys would consider it, but as of now, there's nothing to it.

apparently pigs can fly

why would we want Ray Lewis anyway?

If we're being completely honest here, why would Baltimore even discuss trading Ed Reed (maybe the best defensive player in all of football) for an in-the-box safety like Roy? That's no knock on Roy, but it's more praise for Ed Reed than anything.

Can someone help me understand where they benefit from that?

Now if they were talking just Ray Lewis to the Cowboys, the rumor may be alot more credible. But it makes zero sense to me for Ed Reed to be thrown into the discussion.

But I guess Roy has a quota of subscribers to get for the month. ;)

I agree with this. He has said so himself. There was a special on the NFL Films about linebackers and he was VERY negative about the 3-4 because he said it takes away all of what makes a true middle linebacker great. Something like "my job is to take on running backs, not offensive linemen". I would be surprised to see him interested in coming here, or us being interested in him.

I don't buy the bad blood thing with Owens. I seem to remember something about Lewis finding T.O.'s imitation of his dance funny.
actually he was complaining that they let siragusta and their other DT go, I think it was Sam adams.....

If there is, I would do it! Roy is very good, but not great.

Again this is their speculation...

Why Roy? - Due to him being due a monster signing bonus
Why Ellis? - Diminished role in the D

Why Ray? - contract demands
Why Reed? - they had no real reason... they just figure that the boys might be willing if they didn't want to pay Roy and they need a FS and could prolly get by w/Killer and Beriault.

Thing is Reed wants a new deal also. So he's gonna wanna get paid, too. No win either way.

EDIT: But the gist of the article is that the talks are dead, but MAY get revived due to Lewis mouthing off recently.

i'd be pretty tempted to trade Roy for Reed. Yeah Reed had a bad year last year but that seems to happen to every player on a team when they are losing. I'm not sure about Ray Lewis

Ray Lewis/Ed Reed for Roy Williams? Anyone else know about this? I am not starting a rumor, just saw this thread on the Ranch. I am wondering if anyone knows if this has any merit to it though.

My 21 Questions::

Link?
What makes you think the Cowboys will pay another high priced Middle Linebacker?
Where will Ray Lewis play in our 3-4?

Well Reed is better in coverage, Roy better in the box. Maybe they have another FS waiting to take over for Reed, or are targeting one in the draft. Still think it's BS, but that maybe what is going on behind this.

Go to the Ranch and look it up yourself. It is stickied on the front page of their message board.

I don't think it will happen, that is why I asked if anyone knoew if it had any MERIT.

Baltimore "contacting" Dallas is hardly the same thing as "serious discussions." For all we know, Jerry listened and politely said no. Always be wary of a team trying to unload a player.

There is no way this deal happens. Doesn't matter if we have Roy or Reed, the Cowboys are going to have to pay!! And Ray Lewis for Roy is not even a fair trade.

Why is this even being discussed, why would JJ even consider trading Roy, this is just a no brainer. if he trades Roy then i would go and hunt him down.
