But the rain? Beings intelligent enough for interstellar travel, who apparently move from planet to planet in order to deplete resources are not smart enough to understand that a planet that is 70% water has an echo system that produces water in the form of rain, which falls from the sky and is capable of killing you. Yet, you aren't intelligent enough to figure out that if you are going to invade, you also have to be smart enough to safe guard yourselves from rain? At the very least, figure out a way to stay out of it at all cost.

I was so utterly disappointed in that movie. I honestly think that this is when I decided that I would no longer pay to see Shyamalan's films. I loved the 6th Sense but not much after that unfortunately.

But the movie didn't portray them in the rain, so there's nothing to indicate that they didn't avoid and safeguard against that as well?

Their motivations were never really explored, so it's impossible to say exactly why Earth. Perhaps it was desperation, perhaps they have use for the water but it's still dangerous to them. It is a little odd they didn't wear some protection, but there is very little exposition on them, so it's difficult to make any conclusions. There's definitely flaws with the movie, but not nearly enough to kill it IMO. Most movies are guilty of far worse.

Another thing with his movies: The rewatchability factor is very low.

Thought Sixth Sense and Signs were OK on 1st watch, but would not care to see either ever again.

Speak for yourself. I've watched Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs more times than I care to admit, also wore out the Lady in the Water DVD back in the day.

Also, just watched The Visit yesterday. Movie is hilarious in a good way. M. Night is back.

On the radio in the basement, they state it seems the aliens looked desperate. This movie WAS NOT about the aliens, it was about the family and they had the aliens as a backdrop. If the Aliens were desperate, they went in knowing the dangers. Also, it's not as though the aliens just dropped on the planet out of nowhere. They released scouts, found places they deemed to be perfect landing spots. If anything, they were hoping for getting in quickly, gathering up humans, and getting out.

Without having much knowledge of the aliens backstory, it's really strange to even hang onto those details; especially when the movie is not even about the aliens.

If this movie was supposed to be about a family and not about Aliens, then perhaps they shouldn't classify it as Scifi, and maybe they should have hired somebody other then Mel Gibson to play the leading man.

Why would they have to hire someone other than Mel Gibson? Mel Gibson has played in more than just the genre of action. And who classified it as just sci-fi? It has a sci-fi backdrop, that being within it's classification is not wrong. But it's a drama, the same as Sixth Sense was a horror drama.

Not if they are Syfi. I actually want them just the way they are. Even the cornball ones, I get a certain level of enjoyment out of, just because I like Syfi.

If it's going to be suggested as critically acclaimed etc. (not saying this one is), then it would probably be a good idea.

I can't take Mel Gibson seriously. To me, his past history does not suggest Serious Actor.

That's probably because the entire plot builds up to a single twist that entirely changes the viewers perspective. Once the illusion is revealed, it's hard to get the same level of enjoyment out of it.

Saw a YouTube video about alternate theories on movies and the video suggested that the aliens weren't aliens at all. They were demons and the little girl (can't remember what the explanation was) was divine and was blessing the water. Apparently there are many scenes where she's holding water and there are references to her leaving glasses of water all over the place.
