I can't believe so many people liked Signs, I understand Sixth Sense, I kinda in a weird way get Unbreakable. Signs? and then the rest of his movies were so bad, I mean so so bad.

He's a much better writer than director, in my opinion. He has that George Lucus quality of having the ability to scrub every bit of personality out of his actors and turn them into wooden dolls on screen.

The only reason Unbreakable worked so well was because we're used to seeing Bruce Willis emote as little as possible and no one is capable of neutralizing Samuel L Jackson's personality.

A big part of the reason The Happening was so, so, so terrible was being Mark Wahlberg is already a terrible actor. Shyamalan did him absolutely no favors.

You just named 4 movies. He's directed 11 (if we're not counting Split, since it's not out yet).

That is not a good percentage.

He's had some terrible movies, but The Visit and now Split seem to be a sign that he's getting his groove back.

I'm actually partial to the types of movies he makes. Slow burn thrillers with twists and interesting characters, but The Happening was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

They dont have to be a pop culture top movie to be considered good.

I named 4 movies that were pretty major and still are in movie watching.

Ive seen The Happening, Lady in the Water, etc. as well.

I agree in that he did a great job in building the tension w/o showing similar to older thrillers. I was so let down by the way to fight the Aliens that it soured my enjoyment. Why would aliens come to a planet that's covered by 71% of your enemy (water) and not have that knowledge while surpassing us in every other technological sense? I still like Sixth Sense as his best; I thought the idea was too cool not to get give it the top nod if had to. I know there are plot holes in every movie, I just hold a grudge against Signs bc loved the first 95% of the movie. :D

maybe the aliens thought they'd win anyway? not sure why people get so hung up on this, it was a movie about aliens. Do you believe in aliens?

Unfair grudge bc loved the first 95%. :D Mentioning of plot holes in every movie, etc. Naw, no aliens. $, power and war run the world as has always been the case. Just got a lot more technical/convoluted the last few centuries etc.

What do you mean, "not have that knowledge?"

Not having the knowledge that the planet they are preparing to invade was covered by 71% of a fatal substance readily available by the population. Unless they killed us all first bf entering our atmosphere and then landed, etc. It's a movie, I enjoyed it, but that was a weak finish in nerdy comic book terms (me included deftly), etc.

Not a fan. Been fooled too many times by advertisements of his films and almosst always end up disappointed. I'll wait till it comes to TBS.

Well, I can't speak for their reasons for coming to Earth, but I thought the movie made it fairly clear they were aware of the water on the planet. Shyamalan's character even points out how they have avoided areas with a lot of water.

I like Signs and Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable to an extent. Everything else is pretty awful. The Happening is good for an MST3K style watch.

Haven't seen it sense the theatres n cable spots, etc. I'll give it a re-watch; you could easily be correct.

But the rain? Beings intelligent enough for interstellar travel, who apparently move from planet to planet in order to deplete resources are not smart enough to understand that a planet that is 70% water has an echo system that produces water in the form of rain, which falls from the sky and is capable of killing you. Yet, you aren't intelligent enough to figure out that if you are going to invade, you also have to be smart enough to safe guard yourselves from rain? At the very least, figure out a way to stay out of it at all cost.

I was so utterly disappointed in that movie. I honestly think that this is when I decided that I would no longer pay to see Shyamalan's films. I loved the 6th Sense but not much after that unfortunately.

On the radio in the basement, they state it seems the aliens looked desperate. This movie WAS NOT about the aliens, it was about the family and they had the aliens as a backdrop. If the Aliens were desperate, they went in knowing the dangers. Also, it's not as though the aliens just dropped on the planet out of nowhere. They released scouts, found places they deemed to be perfect landing spots. If anything, they were hoping for getting in quickly, gathering up humans, and getting out.

Without having much knowledge of the aliens backstory, it's really strange to even hang onto those details; especially when the movie is not even about the aliens.
