Rodgers has completed 4 out of his last 5 Desperation / Hail-Mary type of plays in the past 15 months -- good for 4 TDs and 1 interception.

Cowboys are winning 35-31 in the 4th quarter with 1 second left on the clock. Packers have the ball on the 50.

You are the coach -- what do you have the defense do?

My personal opinion is I am putting Dez, Williams, and maybe even Witten in the end-zone to help knock it down.

DB please turn around and look for the ball.

I HATED..... H...A...T....E...D......... when we played Randy Moss. Three defenders on him and NOT ONE turned around. They would have INT.

Simple, basics of the hail Mary, Don't allow a receiver to get behind you, and KNOCK IT DOWN!!!!!!

Hail Mary's are hard to defend, a lot of bodies banging around trying to get position so the best defense is disrupting the throw as much as possible. Once the QB releases the ball and has enough on it to reach the endzone all you can do as a defender is try and knock the ball down. They rarely if ever call PI's on Haily Mary's so you don't have to worry about that, just knock the ball down.

That's an uncanny stat for sure perry.
Dez, yes .
Not sure I want witten back there trying to out jump people though.
Best solution is to be up by more than eight or if not, let the offense eat up the game with a Landry shift

Hail Marys are successful what, 2% of the time. I don't do anything different than what their current Hail Mary defense is. Hopefully they have taught the defenders to not let a wr get behind them and not to get boxed out.

Two things:

1. Box the offensive guys out, and force them back toward the back of the end zone as much as possible.
2. Play the ball and knock it down.

The problem with putting a receiver back there is they're trained to catch the ball, not knock it down so it's best to have defensive players back there who are trained to defend passes.

Just before you trot Dez out there, just tell him to knock the ball down.

Problem solved.

BTW, I think he's been back there before. But I stand to be corrected on that.

They should just blitz. Rodgers won't even have time to wait for the receivers to get there lol.

I'd begin by looking back towards the ball. Placing Dez or a receiver back there is a great idea. We used to use Irvin and I've seen Randy Moss used in that situation. They're used to looking back to and going up for the ball. Too many DBacks now are under 6ft which is a disadvantage in those situations and why we're seeing more of these jump ball situations work.
