The Dallas Cowboys had no need for Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in 2014 NFL Draft because Tony Romo is progressing ahead of schedule in his rehab from surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back.

But while Romo remains limited in what he can do in the off season program and the Cowboys up coming minicamps, vice-president Stephen Jones said the team has no doubt he will full cleared for the start of training camp in July and be ready to go for the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers at AT&T Stadium Sept. 7.

“Yes he will and he’s actually progressing great,” Jones said during a conference call with season ticket holders on Tuesday. “He’s on schedule if not ahead of schedule. He’s throwing the ball around, we not only think he’ll be ready for opening week, he’ll start up at training camp and be ready to go."

Read Stephen's last line and then ask yourself what might be keeping Orton away.

My bad, this article doesn't include the sentence I was referring to. He basically said the last game might have gone differently if Romo had played. I'm sure Orton loved hearing that!

He probably didn't love hearing it, but it's not an unreasonable thing to say. It's perfectly reasonable to say that the guy who has played all the games and taken all the reps might have done better than the guy who hadn't. I'm fairly sure Orton is aware that he's the backup and what it implies.

Stephen Jones on what Tony Romo said about the possibility of the Cowboys drafting a QB: "There's no one out there who can beat me out."

He must not have watched Romo in the 2012 game then.

Orton was staying away before that comment, but yeah, that would tick him off some.

It really was crappy luck for Dallas.

Finally, for once, get a HOME game at the end to win the division.
And the QB that your team was undefeated with vs the division all season is unable to play.

Yes, odds were good that they would have won.
Having said that, Orton played very well given the situation.
But Romo had 10 picks all year, and Orton had two in that game.

I notice this year it's back to being on the road vs a division opponent for the final game.

Dude! Romo is fat and out of shape, plus he chokes when crunch time comes. Get with the program!

Oh, and the backward cap...that is the deal breaker.

And the TWO back surgeries in the past year that assure his career is over!
