DeMarco Murray says of course, there are things the Cowboys haven’t shown on offense in the preseason.
“You want me to tell you what we’re bringing out?” he joked with reporters Monday at Valley Ranch.
One answered, ‘I know you’re not going to do that.”
He was right.
But Murray played along. He was in a good mood as the Cowboys began the work week for the first game that counts.
“Some things are different, but you’ll have to wait and see,” he said, smiling with reporters. “You’ll have to watch come Sunday.”
They tried again.
“Just some reads on certain runs are a little different?”
Murray kept smiling that little smile.
“I don’t want to get into details,” he said. “We’ve made some changes. We’ve kept a few things. You’ll see come Sunday.”
Murray kept his lips sealed. But he did offer that he is comfortable with the changes.
“Very comfortable,” he said. “I’ve been around it for quite some time. Little things here and there that they’ve changed up a little bit. But very comfortable.”
Any change is bound to help. The Cowboys were 31st in the NFL last year in rushing offense. It was the worst performance in team history except for the 12-game inaugural season.
“You can say this and that, but it’s all a mindset for us,” Murray said, asked what is different about this year. “I think it comes to Coach Callahan and the mindset he brings when he’s calling plays, when he’s talking to us, just that fire he has. I think it’s feeding off the offensive line and us – me, myself and the offensive linemen, we have to make sure we work together day in and day out and get the little things right to make sure the big plays are there.”
So about last year?
Don’t ask about last year.
“Last year is last year,” Murray said. “Me personally, I’m not focused on last year. Whatever it was, that’s in the back of my mind. I’m looking forward, looking to get things kicked off right here.”
