Just because folks are critical of Romo when he fails in big games does not mean they forget he is a solid player. Romo has to prove he is a big game QB and it doesnt anything to do with the crap or great QB's we had in the past.

You know what is amazing about this thread? The number of posters in it that are on my ignore list. Seems like 2/3 of the posts are just a name and the message that this person is on my ignore list. :lmao2:

If others would add them to their ignore list this thread could have been a lot better and a lot shorter.

There is a scene in a Simpson's episode (a take of from "The Prisoner") where one of the bad guys asks the woman why she thought a big balloon would stop anyone and her response was: "Shut up! That's why!"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptJJAPL5vGA

That's what a lot of these posters remind me of when you try to use facts and figures to prove a point. They don't have any rational reasons for what they think but they post their unfounded opinions as if they were an easily verifiable fact and others are morons for not seeing what is so plain to them.

Yes sir, and I changed it to that for him when Henson was released.
Wait, so this guy had a Henson screenname?

That explains so much, not the least of which is his current screenname.

:lmao:

It really is shocking how some of Romo's biggest detractors now can be traced back to being huge Henson supporters. It's amazing that they just can't let it go.

Being a Michigan fan, I was stoked when the Cowboys picked up Henson. I thought he had a real shot at being our next franchise QB. When he got his chance to start, and turned the ball over on his first possession, I was like. uh oh, that's not gonna go over well with Parcells. But then on his next possession, he took the team down for a touchdown. If I remember correctly, we won that game and I think it was against the Bears. I could be wrong though.

Henson was such a solid QB at Michigan. I always felt that he never got a fair shake. I think he would have succeeded on another team if he could have had more opportunities to grow. But then again, he just faded away and nobody gave him that shot so he must not have looked very good in practice.

It just amazes me how he went from college stardom to NFL incompetence in what feels like such a very short time.

I know it's a common story though.

Sorry for going off-topic.

I thought Henson got an unfair bad rap as well, espcially when Parcells played him that one game and he went on to win it, then went right back to the bench.

Parcells wasn't the great coach a lot of people felt he was anymore. He was part of that class of coaches which is on its way out in the NFL right now....the Recycling Bin.

not to be a jerk, but Vinny came into that game at the half when we were losing and we went up the field and scored and won the game.

Henson was terrible from day 1 and he was an all jerry decision. He is the kind of guy we would be rolling out there if Romo were not here.

I always got the feeling Tuna never wanted the kid. He just didn't have "it". Not sure how someone who played in 9 career games got a bad rap. He wasn't any good and he proved it by never even amounting to a backup in the NFL. When you can't make the Lions roster you're no good.

You're right, but he got yanked at halftime because for the most part he was awful in the first half.

I think it was a total "See Jerry, I told you he can't play" move by Bill to even put him in.

I know a longtime trainer with Michigan who said many at the school thought Henson was the best to ever play at the school as far as talent is concerned.

I was very excited when we signed Henson. Visions of Aikman were dancing in my head. Like most people, I greedily swallowed the "He started ahead of Tom Brady!" line, completely ignoring the years of rust that had built up. I've never seen a QB have more trouble taking a snap and backpedaling quickly. Something like that should be simple, but he just couldn't pull it off. I sometimes wonder who would be the starting QB today had we not taken a flier on Tony. Maybe we would have beaten New Orleans to the punch for Brees.

I can see why he's bitter. It sounds like he's 0/2 when it comes to this whole screen name picking thing.

The most incredible thing to me about henson is the numbers he put up in high school baseball.

he hit 70 home runs had 290 Rbi's and gave up like 2 earned runs in 4 years. He had 163 strike outs in 72 1/3 innings as junior and 174 in 82 innnings as a senior and finished with a .084 ERA.

He was a high school all american as a baseball and football player. He was the usa today and baseball america player of the year award winner.

If you know anything about baseball you will understand those numbers are beyond incredible.

And maybe the most interesting thing about the guy, he was a High school all american punter....yes PUNTER he averaged 45.7 yards per punt at his prep school!!!

An incredible athlete. Should have never left baseball and just continued to try and hit breaking pitches. I never understood why he left.

...our provincial team tryouts for elite players 19 and under. I talked to the QB coach about how he could make assessments on the candidates in a relatively short period of time.

He said easy just watch.

He ran side by side drills of the QBs throwing the exact same pattern as he called out the cadence.

He ran those same sets of plays with two blockers and three pass rushers to simulate an overload. He switched WRs to make sure that the QBs had a chance to throw to the same sets of pass catchers.

Mirror drills lets you see the deficiency in relation to another candidate.

Is he too late coming out of his stance? What is his footwork like? How quick is his release? Where is his release point? How does he carry himself in practice? Is he competitive?

I'm confident the Cowboys took the time in practice to find out what they had in Henson. I'm sure Payton knew what Henson was. Parcells probably had a strong opinion.

I didn't hear in the media that Henson was denied opportunities in training camp or practices. He was certainly given opportunities to find the field in games.

In the end Henson only has Henson to ask for why he isn't a starting QB. He and his agent chose the team. He chose baseball first. We can't be apologists or even come up with reasons for why he isn't what some expected.

Maybe it's as simple as he is not capable of playing QB at the NFL level.

It's time to stop comparing Romo with Henson and the other group of ex-Cowboy QB who were part of the post Switzer and pre-Phillips era.

Romo at least has a starting NFL job.

IIRC, the first time Henson played was at Baltimore (garbage time) and he turned it over on his first play. He led us to a touchdown on the next possession, but we lost that game. He didn't play again until his first start on Thanksgiving against the Bears. It was the Julius Jones coming out party and Vinny Testaverde saved the day in the second half because Henson was indeed awful.

I feel bad for Henson. He grew up not too far from me and he was a high school sports hero in baseball and football. He went on to star at Michigan and appeared to have a great NFL career ahead of him, but opted to play baseball with the Yankees. That might be the worst mistake of his life. Who knows what could've been if he had stuck with football?

Man, I remember that. It seemed like the ball would be snapped and he would hesitate under center for a half second and then start his dropback. Drove me freaking bananas and he never got rid of that delay.
