I really don't see why you feel that way about Michael or Yeoh. I think they're both deep characters, and the woman who plays Michael is a phenomenal actor, IMO. She speaks whole sentences with a look.

To each his own, but I don't see it at all.

For me it was not the actress that played Michael that I found annoying early on. I think it was the character that I did found highly annoying at the time.

It was like the complete opposite of a vulcan with her crazy crying and emotional fits at times. I understand she is not a vulcan but at the same time I would think that someone raised by vulcans, for the most part, and scoring highly in her studies on vulcan that she would show a tad more control of her emotions. So far it seems they have cut that down a good bit this season compared to the first and part of the second season.

As far as Yeoh's character goes...I love the bad version much much much better than her original portrayal of the good captain. Her bad side is cooler and cracks me up at times and who does not like a woman who kicks arse when she needs to on screen.

I'm guessing Michael is more prone to emotional outbursts because she had to suppress her emotions on Vulcan. Now that she's with humans (mostly) she's making up for lost time. Though she definitely has more control in S3.

And man, does she look great with long hair!

Yes the long hair is much better IMO.

She's a really good actress, just the source material in the first 2 seasons was really flat. I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way. You guys are starting to convince me. With no movies this year, I may as well get caught up on this and Mr. Robot.

I haven't really searched for reviews on it, but you're the first person I've heard say anything that leaned negatively toward it.

Love this show. I tried watching the Picard series but only made it half way. I have been told it gets better but just could not get into it.
If anything, you should catch Picard's season finale. I think you will enjoy it.

Do you have netflix? If so do you have a VPN?

I say this because if you can use a VPN to make your computer look like it's connected in the UK...They have Star Trek Discovery on the UK server of Neflix. Even showing the current season episode by episode.

I do not see this as cheating the system or piracy at all. I pay for netflix, I should be able to access all that netflix has to offer. And since they have some other shows on other countries servers, I take advantage of it with my VPN.
I pay for Netflix too. It surprised the heck out of me finding out programming I was missing.

My wife and I went to Tijuana last year. I got into a conversation with a local about (no surprise) superhero character shows. He wondered if I ever saw Titans. I asked if he meant Teen Titans cartoon or the Young Justice animated series. He clarified it as the live action series.

So I connected to a VPN, adjusted my iPad settings for outside the US, and BAM! DC Universe Titans. ON Netflix.

It still bothers me that someone must go out of their way to get all available programming on a streaming. It would make more sense to me if Titans and other shows did not have English original based audio but that is not always the case.

It's just licensing issues.

I like this episode, but
It seemed like an abrupt and odd way for Michael to find her mother. I hope they have an episode that explains how she came to be one of the Qowat Milat shalankhkai. (Totally had to look that up.) [SPOILER/]
This show just keeps getting more interesting. I'll be very disappointed if they don't eventually make a Star Trek: Discovery motion picture.

Just finished the S3 finale. Holy FRIGGIN' CRAP, I'm in love with this show!!!
I am so proud of the show. The two-episode season finale, That Hope Is You, rank in my all-time Star Trek multi-part episodes Top 10. Maybe even top five. I saw the episode late this afternoon and still digesting it.

A Season Four sub-plot has been already set up extremely well

Not sure if it will grow darker but Stamets may not forgive Burnham. Discovery has established a pattern of ridding itself of key characters. What if something happens to Hugh and it was involuntarily or intentionally Michael's fault? Remember, Booker is an alternate spore drive navigator per the finale. Stamets WAS irreplacement. Now he's not. ;) :p

Very good point
I was also thinking it might set up at least one future episode in which a villain can take over the spore drive in the same way Booker did, maybe even his brother?[SPOILER/]
I can't believe how far this show has come from the first season, when there were only a couple of characters I cared at all about.
