Starting to worry about O-line

The Raiders are a 3-4 base team that plays variations of coverage schemes. Does anybody actually think Mack is a DE in a 3-4 system? Marcus Spears and Igor Olshanksky play defensive end in 3-4 alignments, not guys like Mack or Von Miller. On 3rd-and-long, they put their hand down wide in a 4-man rush, yes. But Mack drops into coverage and plays OLB much of the time. That is not a defensive end.

And superstar veterans go out and bang around a little bit during the preseason, but they are largely just trying to avoid what happened to Edelman, Ware, Meredith, and Hitchens. The preseason needs to be re-thought.

My position isn't that Collins is terrible at right tackle. He's just average at best. He's above average at left guard, which is where I wish they'd leave him. I'd rather have four above average linemen and a weakness at right tackle than three above average linemen and two questions at guard and tackle. Dak is sturdy enough and it's not on his blind side.
Wow you really do not know much about how the NFL works do you?
With Green obviously unreliable the boys correctly decided that Collins was their best bet at RT. The alternative was to trade, etc. That is how teams in the NFL do business- the smarter ones anyway.

The Raiders are a 4-3 team - they run the same philosophical system that the Seahawks run. Ken Norton is a Pete Carroll disciple, and neither run a 3-4.

Check the Raiders depth chart - they, themselves, call their defensive front a 4-3.

This has been a brutal thread for you. Just call it a day and move on.

They prefer Green over Cooper, so you unreliable point makes no sense.

I get that they hope Collins can be a great right tackle, but right now, he's not. I hope he improves, and he very well may.

I'd just rather put him where they know he can play well, and have four rock solid lineman and one question mark, rather than three solid and two question marks.

Shuffling Collins to RT and Chaz Green to LG has really messed up the chemistry on the line. Watching the 1st team offense last night, it was clear they are far from being proficient at their positions.

Dak had a clean pocket to throw in maybe 3 times out of the 16-17 times he dropped back.

I really think letting Leary go will come back and bite us this year. Or it might be the defense again, not sure.

keep on running. Its fun to watch. As regards Green, just due diligence on their part since they already know that Cooper can get the job done. As was pointed out, you got owned repeatedly in this thread so from a self respect point of view you should move on.

They run a hybrid coverage scheme out of a 3-4. EVERY TEAM RUNS 4-3 AND 3-4 FRONTS. Khalil Mack plays on his feet most of the time. That is not a standard defensive end, no matter what they list him as.

I understand football. Most of you don't beyond Madden. I don't have the interest in teaching you, so enjoy your little mob antifa football club. You're wrong.

@erod embarrassing himself in this thread? Color me surprised.

Leary was overrated. He played sandwiched between two All Pros. And he got vastly overpaid. You tip your cap to him and accept the 3rd or 4th rounder you get for him.

Collins is going to prove an upgrade at RT. If LG is what we're worried about on the offensive line... What in the world are we complaining about?

All that aside....The line has looked good.

SomeB people just can’t handle the offseason. Everything that happens seems to be the doom of the team. But this team just keeps plugging guys in and they keep going on with their business.

Maybe Stephen A Smith has it right about some of the fans of this team

Ok gentlemen.

It's a beautiful day and one preseason game left to evaluate the bottom of the roster and a few others needing some snaps. Looking forward to the Giants and a win. The OL will jell once they decide on the starters which IMO has been done. Cooper will start at LG and Collins will learn his technique although it will take some time.

I stayed away from this thread because it seemed so silly. Ever since they moved Collins to RT and now that I've seen him play there I've been wishing they done it day one. La'el never looked comfortable at LG, I think in his mind he's a OT and that looks to be obvious with how he's done there. Way better talent there than Free.

I'm only worried about one thing. Smiths health.

If his back can return to "normal", then I'm more than content with the Line. If he misses games again, then I'm worried.

Not re-signing Leary was stupid.

You don't mess with the key unit on your football team.

Dak had better be ready to take some hits.

Re-signing Leary at the price he wanted would have been stupid.

Sometimes you have to "mess" with key units, whether you want to or not.

Dak will take hits; it is inevitable.

Leary could have been signed for less earlier in the process. He never should have been benched in the starting lineup by an inferior player.

We could have Collins at RT learning the position with four rock solid linemen next to him. Instead, we have two question marks on the line.

What if Martin or Tyron get hurt? Then what? Suddenly, this line is a mess. You don't mess with depth in your best unit, which is the soul of this football team.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to excuse myself from posting for awhile; I have to go cry about what was, is and what might be.

It was the best offensive line in football.

It is a line with two glaring questions marks now.

It might be catastrophic if a serious injury occurs because our former depth is gone.

If Martin and or Tyron get hurt you think having Leary here is answer?

OK buddy.
