You be saying the same thing when Daunte and Calvin Johnson looks like the Daunte to Moss duo.... I will laugh and everyone will say how hindsight is 20/20 or how that fat boy roll on QB WAS washed up..

Dont hold your breathe on that one.

Daunte is horrible.

Because our vainglorious GM was too busy doing radio shows and pizza commercials.

Yeah because Jerry doesn't try to acquire all the talent he can.

We didn't need a good backup quarterback. We really needed a wide receiver.

Thankfully three draft picks, and 45 million later our Savior is here.

What QB was there available, at the time of the RW signing, that would have made a difference to the results of the last three weeks.

When Leftwich was cut, no team went chasing after him.

It took several weeks before the Stealers finally signed him.

The point being he wasn't highly sought after at all.

One game doesn't make a career.

As a backup, Leftwich is a great pickup and when he was available many people here suggested it only to be shot down. If anything is clear at this point, it's that the staff bungled the choices when it came to choosing backups at pretty much every position. We wouldn't even have Keith Davis right now if Miami hadn't let him go.

We didn't have depth/skill at backup WR, so we traded for Roy. We have no lineman that can sub for a one-armed Flozell or the amazing Proctor. Choice has gotten what, 3 carries since Felix went down? You can literally go down every spot and see that we have nothing serviceable behind the starters except with Spencer and the rookie CB's. Even Tank, behind Ratliff, is starting to look suspect.

Simply put this staff has been good at getting starters but horrendous at providing quality depth on this roster.

None, but Leftwich was available back in the preseason. Yet, we stuck with Brad "noodle arm" Johnson. That's complete incompetence......

Choice has showed talent when he has been given the opportunity. The problem is he has not been given the opportunity by our stubborn coaching staff very much.....

The only thing Brad Johnson had was his name.

I remember 2007 training camp, people were saying how horrible he looked. This preseason too.

You're going to be screwed most times when your quarterback goes down, especially when your quarterback is as good as ours.

But it should not completely neuter an offense who has 3 pro bowlers on the line, and Roy Williams, Terrell Owens and Jason Witten for receiving options. It just shouldn't. It's definitely been a costly personnel move.

if I had a choice between a backup QB and Roy Williams, I'll take Roy Williams 3 weeks ago in hindsight 10 out of 10 times.

You and Jerry think alike. Don't take that as a bad thing, if we win the Super Bowl it was the right decision. I personally didn't see it as a need when we have a defense leaking like a sieve, no backup quarterback, and a below average coaching staff.

I could be dead wrong. Time will tell come playoff time.

One game doesn't make a career but, he sure looks better than Bad Johnson

Just incase you missed it, Brad Johnson is not the back up anymore, Bollinger is. Brad has played the final game of his career, unless u want to count holding for kicks.

You will now have to compare other team's back-up QBs to Bollinger....

Brad and Bollinger don't belong in the NFL. This is pathetic. I'm surprised none of you zoners posted anything about signing Leftwich when he was out of a job. Reason Brad is still on the team is what Michael Irvin said on his show. Mike said that Brad has ties with everyone on the team. He's a likeable guy. Sometimes it's hard to cut these guys esp when they didn't think Romo would be out going into the season.

I seem to remember many "Should have drafted Leftwich instead of Newman" threads on this site a couple of years ago...

Plenty of people wanted us to take a look at Leftwich during the preseason when he was available. But the consensus was he was a loser and we would be "just fine" with Brad, because that is what the brain trust that pretends to run the team told us.

Brad Johnson is on the team because he and Jason Garrett snapped towels at each other in the Tampa Bay showerroom in 2004. He's Garrett's good buddy.

One game doesn't make a career.

Couple of reasons no one was clamoring for him right away. Number one when he was first looking he was looking for a team that would give him a shot at starting. So you have to stop right there and pull any teams out of the running that weren't looking for anything more than a back up, that would have immediately eliminated Dallas.

Now the reason no one who was looking for a starter didn't immediately jump at the chance to get him was that Byron has been extremely injury prone during his career and no one was willing to put their season on his shoulders and his ability to stay healthy.

Fast forward a bit and Pittsburgh got him because he was willing, by then, to come in as a back up and the only reason Pittsburgh got him for that was cause Batch went down. Otherwise he wouldn't be playing there now and at best would be in Dante's spot in Detriot.

What he said here, only in quicker fashion.

None of this changes the fact that the Cowboys could have signed him and screwed up by staying with a QB who can't play.

Exactly, Jerry could have made a play for him when it became obvious Johnson just couldn't carry the load, but he the brain trust's answer to the back-up QB was to sign Brooks Bollinger?

It's kind of like our free safety situation a few years back. There were a few guys available, like Dwight Smith who went on to have a pretty good year, and we completely ignored a position that was clearly needed - instead going with Watkins and Davis who combined to be the worst free safeties in the NFL. Lots of people here were great with that (Watkins is tall, I've heard). It didn't work out.

A few weeks ago, many of us (myself included) were wondering how this team could possibly use all of the draft picks they have for 2009.

Not any more.

In addition to backup QB, I think there are plenty of holes that need to be filled.

And holes that will be created when this team loses some dead weight too.

Very funny visual of these two running around in the locker room snapping at one another with the towels while the other players are just shaking their heads.
