Weddle is going to generate enough interest to drive his price into a significant pay scale. Teams like the Steelers, Giants and even New England will show enough interest to give his agent some leverage in negotiations. I'm not against signing a guy like Weddle but I'd have a number in my head (if I were the Jones') and I'm not moving off of it regardless of where negotiations go.

I did not say he would be cheap I think he could be had at a fair price. I agree with this assessment in terms of making an offer which likely would be around 6.5 to 7 mill a year

I'm just saying people always want to imitate the last year’s winner, every year it is the same thing over and over. Dallas did sign some key FA last year one was Dez Bryant that did not come at a cheap price. We added Hardy and according to this board that was a great move. I'm all in favor of being active in FA but doing so wisely not just trying to buy a championship. I think Dallas should focus on defense both in the draft and FA. I’m still one though that believes in using the 4th to address the future of this team which is why I still advocate getting a top QB with the 1st pick.

We know it can't be bought. Manning got them there 2 years ago, but having good drafts with the Thomas' TE and WR helped out a lot. Then the D got them there this year.

My point is we can't keep bringing in the Selvie types exclusively. Yes we brought in Hardy but that didn't count because at the time we thought it was going to be a 10 game suspension. I'm also tired of thinking everyone outside or Romo and Witt has to be under 28 years old. Ask Rivera how the older FA's did for his team this past year.

Lets be real you need to use FA and overpay a FEW guys... i mean the patritots did it when they brought over Revis... Broncos with Ware talib... The list goes on...

Just a matter of the right guys filling those right needs... Honestly we should bring in a big Pass rush FA or a lockdown corner.. If we can have one of those sign me up

The problem is that there isn't a big pass rush FA available this year. Lock down corner? They rarely hit FA. I'd take one, too, if we could get it. The list is short on both and ALL of them will be VASTLY overpaid.

And he might just go away.

Meanwhile, here we are with Brandon Carr, the last of the 2012 free agent bonanza.

Carr, Livings, Bernadeau, Orton, Vickers, Connor--then trading up for Claiborne. Just frightening.

Outside of Carr who was the big name again?? And thank God that blowhard, now in LA, took the other corner that year!

That number is too high, for me though, Dooms. Now way I'm paying 7 mil for a player on the wrong side of his effective playing years. If I'm the Jones' I stick to 5 mil/year maximum and let the rest of the league overpay for a player that will be washed out in two years.

The point is that they got into the FA game with Hardy and got average results. We got a hell of a lot less out of Hardy that we paid for. That's the only line of thinking required. It's not rocket surgery.

I just think he was out of football too long. My bet is whomever ever he plays for next year he will be back in double digit sacks.

I'm tired of overpaying guys who play like crap and waste cap space, there are 2 sides to this. Just throwing money at names is not going to get it done in my opinion. I think FA you can find some good players out there. I think a guys like Weddle would be a good pick up and I think it can be done at a decent price. I'm leery about Pierre-Paul but worth looking at

and that is why you would look to sign a guy like him on a 2 year deal. FA is not how a team is going to build that is still what you look to the draft for but since you can't address all needs in the draft but you can fill needs short term with quality players

Even Denver was not looking to sign Ware long term it was a 3 year deal and now he is in the final year of his contract

You could be right, A8. But we lost. No matter how you look at it. I'm all for getting help in FA but the player, the price, and the production have to align. That's not as easy as it seems to make happen and when you overpay.............your screwed.

That, and maybe the fact that the scheme he was in, the role he was playing, the coaching he was or wasn't getting, and the talent around him just wasn't as good as what he had in Carolina?

Any time a free agent signing fails to work out, all blame is automatically placed on the player while the coaches skate by unscathed. Unless it's elsewhere like Philadelphia, then Chip Kelly gets skewered.

That all sounds like a good idea but Weddles' agent isn't going to go within a 1000 miles of a two year deal. You can bank on that. The suitors for his services will make sure he won't have to settle for that, either. The lack of talent at that position in the FA market is going to drive Weddle's price right where he wants it. Smack dab in the middle of overpaid.

at 31 I would not count that he will be getting longer, it is not just what a player or agent wants. There are other who are younger like Berry who will have a bit more leverage. Right now all of this is talk we will see what teams are willing to do here in the next 2 weeks or so

Berry will never see the light of day in FA which, again, plays right into Weddle's hands. It will be interesting to see how his situation, in particular, plays out.

We all know it's not JG's fault, right? ;)

At this stage, he is an echo chamber for his father and is starting to talk a lot and say nothing.

Next come the lip smacks.

I would prefer the Jason Garrett clapping, I just want to throw that out there.

Didn't Denver just win a SuperBowl by backing up the Brink's truck?

I don't remember Denver drafting Peyton Manning, Aquib Talib, Demarcus Ware, ect......

Sorry to interrupt Steven, please continue explaining how free agency never works out.
