Stephen Jones: Hints they are still looking at pass rushers

No problem with disagreeing, I'd just like to point out that his 'one-trick' still managed to get him 8 sacks in 11 games which would have tied him for this team"s lead last season.

Because Freeny wasn't a starter... or even close to being a starter. Opposing OL didn't prepare for him like they do the guy who is going to be across from them all day.

Like I said earlier, he caught a few guys off guard with that move (which is still quick I admit) because he rushes up the field play after play and then suddenly, counters off of that with his spin back inside. I think coaches will tell left tackles to watch for it this year... particularly if he came in and tried to play as a starter. I don't think he will have the success this season as he did last year on a talented Arizona defense.

When he was younger, guys had to worry about his outside rush so much that they couldn't guard against the spin move like they should have or he would beat them outside. Now, he can't really get the corner on his outside rush, so as long as OT's don't fall asleep at the wheel they should be able to stop his spin move if they're ready for it.

I'm not saying I'm right... I'm saying that this is my thought process when trying to decide if I want to pay a 36 year old speed rusher to come in and save the day at WDE.

The team isn't going to get Freeny. They don't want him. He is ancient by NFL DE standards.

At this point in his career, he is a bit of a one-trick-pony with his spin move. Teams will have noticed that the majority of his pressures came off of that move and will coach their LT's to watch for it. He can't get the edge like he used to, although he tries over and over (which eventually got him a sack here or there on his counter off of that which is his spin-move).

He won't surprise offenses with it this year as much.

Freeny just wouldn't be a solution for Dallas. I'm behind the team not panicking and paying a hundred year old guy to just get a name people know.

Then who then??? Last year he used that same spin move to collect 8 sacks

Thanks for posting RS12...

Fish quoting Stephen Jones saying that there will be someone on the final 53 man roster who isn't in camp can be filed under "Duh" or "No **** "

and whoever it is wont have the benefit of going thru camp!! lol
thats always good, lets sign this guy but lets wait till after camp!

Maybe he should try spinning in a different direction . . . yeah, that's the ticket. (At this point, I'd take anyone who had 8 sacks last year.)

Thirty-six years old or not, I think Freeney would only be used part-time as a pass rusher and no more. Heck, some of us could handle it.

Not necessarily true DandyDon52...the player likely would have been in another team's training camp.

All I see him saying is they are not in camp. Never says they aren't on the team... think about it...

He had 8 sacks in 11 games last year. That's almost 12 sacks over a 16 game season. So to say he just got a random sack or there is selling him short. And if his spin move is so easy to pick up, why did he have 8 sacks in 11 games? He's used the same move for years.

Again, people are creating this strawman that people think Freeney is some dominant edge rusher. No one has suggested that. But to start the season, your DE depth chart of Mayowa, Irving, Russell and Tapper have 2.5 sacks................ TOTAL.............. IN THEIR CAREERS.

People really are totally underestimating how anemic this pass rush could be to start the year.

You don't need him to save the day. You need him to come in, play on 3rd downs and rush the passer. No one is asking him to come in and be a starting DE and play 45 snaps a game.

He'll likely cost a $1MM or so based with sack incentives like he had in Arizona last year. That's absolutely worth it.

Again, Freeney had almost 4 times the number of sacks last year at age 36 with apparently a pretty weak pass rush move that everyone has figured out than Irving, Mayowa, Russell and Tapper have in their entire careers..........

I get what you're saying. You're not wrong. But the most important question is, is he better than the guys we have now?

I'm trying to figure out who this could be. Dwight Freeny makes way too much sense, can't be him. Maybe we'll bring Hatcher out of retirement.

Ever wonder why Arizona didn't want Freeney back since he was cheap??? He doesn't like camp, he's getting up there
in age, he's really only a 3rd down option at this point and probably available for 15 or less plays a game and doesn't do
special teams. I just can't see the fascination and I don't think Garrett does either for a restricted part-time player.

How many sacks did he have last year. Also, Freeney plays the 9 and since he's so wide he takes the T out of the equation of helping out inside. That does help the DTs a bit. I wasn't in favor of him coming here initially but now I am. I reserve the right to flip flop again though. :)
