I love Murray. I do. But he's not as good as McCoy or AP and I wouldn't pay him anywhere close to their contracts.

I don't expect him to get the avg salary of Peterson at 14 mill or the avg of McCoy at 9 mill. I do expect him to get a fair offer. People talk about the injury yet McCoy missed quite a few games early in his career as well. What I see is Dallas has invested in a very good OL I think it is smart to invest in a RB who can take advantage of that OL just as Smith did. Murray has good quickness and he has power, good coming out of the backfield and is a good blocker and I think it would be a bit foolish to low ball him because some are set in their opinion this is a passing league yet we just watched the SB champ prove otherwise not to mention 49ers another team who ran more than they threw the ball. There is still a place in this league for teams with great running attacks and if anything it only makes their passing game that much better as safety are forced to come up to play the run.

I loved Irvin comment Tenn doubled Dez and the Cowboys said fine we will shove Murray down your throat.

Really?

When you see two players bracketing Dez on the LOS like they were in punt return formation?

I still wonder about that. The first play? I dont think they did it again. just thought it was weird...did they have some inside info the first play was to him?
They should have done that on the td when anyone watching knew that back shoulder pass wass coming

The Jets signed Chris Johnson for 2 years at $4 mil per year.

Murray isn't worth more than that.

And I don't know if I would even offer him $3.5 mil per season.

Knowshon got $3.5 million last off season and Murray is a much better all around back then him and Chris Johnson.

Murray is also only 26, so signing him to a 2 to 3 year deal would make sense. I just dont think Dallas will be able to compete financially with what he will draw on the open market.

Well Dallas being Dallas or should I say Jerry, I doubt they go "small" with Murray.

I would guess a 4 year deal in the neighborhood of $26 mil with $10 of it guaranteed.

I'm admittedly not the best with Cap considerations. Does not guaranteed money after a player is cut affect the cap for the next year?

It depends on when the cut is made... back then you had "Before June 1st" cuts and "After June 1st" cuts.

If the player was cut before June 1st then the guarantee money was rolled into that season, if it was after June 1st the guarantee money was rolled into the following season's cap.

Yep, and that's why I hope the Cowboys use some discipline when it comes to dealing with Murray.

Personally I don't think they would go more than 4 years.

I care more about the years then the money. If they give him an extra mill per year than they should have its not the end of the world.

But even 4 scares me given his lingering durability issues.

does'nt matter if you sign him for 4 years or 5 years. whats matters is the bonus money because those end years you just cut them if they don't have a tn of pro rated bonus money. i think just over 4 mil a year would get murray and i think if the deal is really a 3 year deal with maybe a 4th or even 5th option that would allow you to spread money but still cut after 3 years if needed. if he wants 6 or 7 mil a year then he can walk and i wish him the best

and that would put him in the top 10 RB and why shouldn't he be paid as a top 10?

The one thing we needed to make this a solid team was an offensive line. I really hope, and I'm sincere about this, but I hope Romo's arm can at least get back to normal, I don't mind his mobility falling off, you can't keep everything as you get older. But if that happens, we can probably compete because of that offensive line, Murray's running, and the emergence of Marinelli's defense.

But folks wanting to get rid of top talent is not a smart ideal. I can understand if your team is not good with that top talent, but if your team is showing signs of being a good team, then why remove the cog which makes us a good team? Stop thinking that great talent is easy to replace. Geesh

That's probably what Dallas will do, that's not what I would do... I'd offer 3 years at $17 mil with $7 mil guaranteed.

If Dallas does 4 at 26 mill then it is well within range, again it pays him as a top 10 RB. Heck if you were Murray agent wouldn't you think he deserves top 10 money? I don't want Dallas to break the bank I do think he as a top talent player has earned the right to a fair deal.

5.6 mil a year would'nt be that bad, i would prefer less but the market is the market. the guaranteed which is the most important part is really good. you could even add another year to make the agent happy and still not have to worry about being obligated to it. something along those lines where the guaranteed is real manageable in a couple years is what i think needs to be done. love murray but not sure he is going to have many more years. a contract with that guanranteed amount is easy to get out of.

Trent Richardson signed a 4 year / $20.49 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts, including a $13,341,000 signing bonus, $20,489,796 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $5,122,449.

and has never gone over 1000 yard and Murray would be expected to take less than this? I don't think so

Yeah I'm all for keeping Murray. At a good price. I do not want to pay him a huge salary because he's good but I feel you can get good backs pretty regularly for smaller deals. There is no reason to give him a big contract. Especially if you want to keep someone like Dez and want to keep your salary cap in good shape to where you can keep those good O-lineman you're finally investing in when the time comes to keep them.
