I would consider it a wasted pick to draft a QB after the second. The chances are very slim that a late round QB pick will ever be anything other than a career backup at best. The chances of getting a Tom Brady are a million to one. I would rather see Dallas bite the bullet and invest in a top prospect that can replace Romo in a couple of years.

If the goal is to get a "franchise QB" you might be right. But I don't even think more than a handful of "franchise QBs" exist the space of a decade and most of the time they are taken at the top or near the top of the draft.

But limiting yourself to the first two rounds and then saying forget it is not smart either. Wilson, Foles and Cousins seem like they have long term starting potential and they were all selected in the third and fourth rounds.

Logan Thomas impressing at the Senior Bowl (video)

-Like I said earlier, some team is going to fall in love him Thomas because of his physical tools and will reach big time on him in the 3rd or 4th round. My first guess would be Arizona. Bruce Arians loves big-arm QB's who can drive the ball downfield, and he'd be able to sit behind Palmer for a year or two. Either way, he won't be a Cowboy (and that's probably a good thing).

À

Agreed.

I like him..I'd take him at 3 nooooo prooobllleemmmm !

Not 100% sold on him but he is intriguing.

I think people are playing a little too much into the fact he broke many of Romo's records though. If he went to Eastern Kentucky, suddenly he is not quite as interesting.

I would rather try to wait and see if I could steal Mettenberger around that range.

Jones can't help himself sometimes. Manziel is right up his alley. That type of player is an America's Team type player that brings the type of hype and controversy Jerry loves to keep us relevant. Not saying he's going after JM, but that's a Jerry type player.

for whatever reason, too long to articulate, i would actually dig it......if we got manzeil....at a good exchange.,,,

Too much, And I will rip it apart.....,otherwise, don't sell the future jerry!!!!!

Matthews appears to be the chic "sleeper" QB this year. I don't see it. Weird footwork, like Bledsoe was, almost all arm.

For a 7th rounder, it'd be worth a look. He wouldn't be asked to start or even take meaningful snaps next season. He's very smart and yes, his footwork needs work.

I can't think of many hyped players like that Jerry has ever drafted. Seems like he catches flak for the opposite. Maybe Claiborne or Dez?

You've gotta be kidding. What has he shown you that suggests we should draft him? He has prototypical size is about it. He is one of the most inaccurate QBs there is, and makes stupid decisions at an alarming rate.

Garoppolo, Fales, Murray if you're looking for a QB in the 4-6 round range.

Hey ...this is a guy that once took Quincy Carter in the 2nd round..............he wanted so much to be able to brag about finding a diamond in the rough, that is his weakness in the draft room.

Very good point and something to think about.

My goal would be to get s franchise QB. It will take that type if QB to overcome the poor management by the GM. Romo is good, but good can't get the job done in Dallas.

I think we're too bad as a team to draft a QB like Manziel. It worked for the 49ers and Seahawks because they already had dominant players. When you have a team as awful as the Cowboys, you're only hope is a QB like Romo. Come to think of it, maybe it would be better to move on at QB. That way we'll suck for 3-4 years and we can rebuild. Romo + this team = 8-8.

Since by pretty much universal thinking that there have only been four franchise QBs drafted since 1998, and only one since 2005, there is pretty much zero chance we land a franchise QB.
