Don't be a dumb nut, Jerra.
Do what you half to do to move up maybe 5 spots and pick Bortles from UCF.
He is the QB we half been waiting for. You will git what you pay for, as proven with Romo and now we fans deserve some hope in the way of Bortles.

Jones can't help himself sometimes. Manziel is right up his alley. That type of player is an America's Team type player that brings the type of hype and controversy Jerry loves to keep us relevant. Not saying he's going after JM, but that's a Jerry type player.

Manziel is not a guy you want carrying a clipboard for a few years - if he drops to us, we'll likely take a trade with a someone who wants the help -- me, I can't see him getting past the Raiders though

Personally- I think this is the year to nab a QB if a very good one falls into your lap.
That would be an ideal situation. Someone with real talent that can be groomed.
But I don't believe this the year that a QB HAS to be taken.
Let opportunity fall into your lap- so to speak.

Otherwise- Next year would be fine also- given the current QB and financial situation on the position.
Depending on Romo's health, of course.

I think they can be patient for one more year and see if something they might not have expected happens, but not be upset if it doesn't and continue to build the team.
No need to force the issue... yet.

I have to be honest, if Manziel is there when the Cowboys pick, I would take him. Reminds me of Russell Wilson.

I would rather see the team focus on DT/DE/OG/SS in first four rounds and then look at BPA down the draft.

Johnny Football has no chance of dropping IMO.. too many QB hungry teams. He will go to Jacksonville, Oakland, or Cleveland IMO. Only way to get him is if Jerry trades up.

of course not… he will go top 15, if not 5… i was just being extreme….

Any team would be very smart to not eliminate themselves from getting a QB in the top half of the 1st round, otherwise you reduce your trade leverage.

I love me some Johnny Football but you can't have him holding a clipboard here... too much chaos especially being in Texas. Whenever you have these polarizing franchise guys like Romo, you've got to have a nobody (hopefully a competent nobody, Orton is perfect) behind him. You just do. I would expect you would see the same treatment for the Cutlers, Rivers and Matt Ryans of the world. Nobodies behind them.

Now you could put Manziel behind someone like Tom Brady... because everybody knows that he will not see the light of day until it's his time. There will be no controversy.

We could probably get Murray in the 5th. He'll slip die to his ACL injury and inability to partake in the combine, along with the fact that he's undersized and lack of a big arm.

Would take him in the fourth, a lot of draft bums see him as a high upside player ala Nick Foles. When they come along they tend to get snatched in the 3rd/4th.

Stephen's stance about allowing due attention to the QB position gives he hope he's not simply a chip off the old block. Smart teams like the Packers and Pats know enough to draft QBs often. Even if they're not always destined to stick with the team, they can oftentimes be traded later, sometimes for considerably more than their actual value. It doesn't necessarily have to be a high pick that's used, either. In any event, waiting until the need is desperate is just plain foolish.

If he fell to our spot though, chances are there possibly be a team who would be interested in moving up towards that selection to nab him. I'm from the BPA school of thought, if he is our top rated QB, or the highest guy on our board and graded a lot better than a guy like Nix or the other defensive linemen then you have to take him. If Romo can't take the competition then he isn't fit to be a quarterback in this league and he sure isn't fit to be the solution for the Dallas Cowboys.

It would be a disservice to the fan base and to the Dallas Cowboys organization as a whole to not select a possible franchise caliber quarterback for the next 15 years because Romo's feelings might get hurt or the media would create a firestorm. Chances are we aren't lucking out on a talented guy like Romo again(undrafted or a mid-late round QB.) We cannot go back to the position we were in when Aikman retired, which was we had nothing to replace him for years.

Basically said what any team in the NFL does.

We'll draft a QB. Not gonna say what round or in what year but we're never going to say we won't.
