Stephen Jones.."our phones have been ringing more than ever"

I believe we will be picking up a WR or QB here in the next two weeks. I see us leaning towards a WR more than a QB because we could always draft a QB in next years draft.
It's too late to add a receiver and expect much impact this season, IMO.

I'm a big Boldin fan, too, but I just don't see us paying the price to acquire him or the Cards giving in and dealing him.

We're in a bit of a pickle with injuries at the moment, but I have a lot of confidence in Sam Hurd and Miles Austin.

I thought this article was about Stephen Jones of the Rams for some strange reason until it said Scandrick.

Stephen Jackson not Stephen Johnson

I think we are getting Dex back...WHOOHOOO!!! :p:

What about earlier reports that Joe Berger was close to contending for playing time earlier in camp?

I hate that Kyle Kosier is hurt because the offensive line looked ready to roll yesterday, but maybe we have an internal answer who already knows our scheme.

Any outsider would be behind the eight ball trying to pick up a new scheme so close to the regular season.

And thanks for sharing Stephen Jones' thoughts, Theebs.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Boys are scouting the waiver wires for interior offensive linemen over the next week or two, but whoever comes in won't be expected to contribute much this year (hopefully)...

Howdy, Mr. Bear!

It sucks to see Kyle Kosier sidelined with the first team OL looking in sync, even though I've never been a fan of his.

I really hope Joe Berger is ready for prime time after Wade mentioned he was getting close to competing for playing time early in camp.

Opportunity doesn't knock often, Berger might just stay in the line-up if he's ready for action.

I think you are on the nose there. I was one of the folks that felt we needed to get a WR in the draft, via trade, or even kidnap one if we had to, but now I think it is not such a pressing issue. Crayton looked good against Houston, Austin has showed a lot, but he will be out for the next month, and Hurd doesn't look to bad. Amendola and Stanback can play a little and we could even use Bennett as a WR in a pinch, although he is clueless.

I thin we are okay at WR right now. I am getting real concerned about SS though. Roy is still not covering anything. Watkins doesn't look to be the answer and Brown is lost. Maybe when Newman gets back thing will tighten up, but I don't know......

He said dont be suprised to see us make a trade before opening day. He also said this is the most interest they have had from other teams since the early 90s.

He then said the team, like everyone else, has scouts out all over and will not hesitate to help the team in any area.

Brad asked him who helped themselves against denver and he responed Scandrick, walden and tyson smith. He said they think alot of those guys.

What? I thought the reason our special teams sucked is because we didnt' have any football players on the end of the roster.

Berger's got a heck of an opportunity here... like you, I hope he makes the most of it, I hope he lives up to what we've been hearing about him in camp...

Why does everyone want Beck again?

He's 27 years old, heading into his 2nd season. Sounds like Chad Hutchinson.
No idea.

When he did play for Miami he played very poorly. The only thing you could say for him was that he had a gun and he was pretty mobile. No pocket presence, slow decisions, nothing that really inspired hope for the future.

There's a reason he's on the outs in Miami, and it's not because Sparano hates him.

Unless the Cowboys can pick up guys who have played in Houck's system in the past.

Berger's got the inside track but you never know. If cut, I would love to see Jerry pick up Cards rook OL Brandon Keith and/or Panther's Toniu Fonoti. Keith is a project but Fonoti shined under Houck w/the Chargers.

It also could not hurt to sign injured OL Charles Spencer and stash him on IR for this season.

Losing Killer was killer.

THAT was a mistake.

True Keith Davis was an asset on special teams but despite him being here last year we still had issues on special teams. Players aside, I am not too enamored with our special teams coach Bruce Read.

Maybe we should think about picking up a few players that have shown the intelligence, cover assignments, and have the intestinal fortitude to play Special teams.;)

I totally agree. If it comes to Beck or Simms, if it is anywhere close, Simms is the answer. Beck will have to go through waivers, but is making second round money. At least Simms has started, has won in this league, and has shown a lot of heart at different times. Beck just seems clueless.

Sounds like people are asking about our players. Spears, Carp, Scandrick, Curtis ect.

I doubt Detroit and Arizona are knocking down our door to help us at WR.

How about Curtis and a 6th for Beck

Spears and a 3rd for Ginn and a 6th

A Condtional 7th for Jarrett

Curtis and a 7th for Ruvell Martin

Seriously.

I know we've had some new guys try out in special teams packages. Guys who may not have played on special teams in college or even high school, but give me a break. Some of these guys haven't been disciplined enough to stick to their lanes on coverage. A portion of the blame can be put on Coach Read (even though he wants to point fingers at his kicker), but most of the blame should be assumed by guys who are trying to make the roster and are doing a poor job of it.

Why do you want to trade tony curtis? Did I miss something?

Yeah, I think we will go get Beck from Miami. I'd sure like to see us add the veteran WR but we're not going to pay extortion.

Why? Seems like a wasted effort to me -- Tony Romo is our star QB, Brad Johnson can help us win games. Beck would be third string and a total waste of effort. He cannot help us win games. Heck, he doesn't even know one thing about our offense or are players and I'm expected to believe that even though Miami does not think enough of him, he's going to come in here and be able to help a team he is completely unfamiliar with?

Makes no sense, none. As others have pointed out, if there's anything we need, it's probably a WR or linebacker. Anything else is just a waste of time.

If I had a copy of Brad Johnson's birth certificate I would post it for you. Beck is a long term, good risk solution.

Honestly, how hard was that to figure out?
