Considering how badly he's PWNED us in every trade so far, maybe we need to stop trading with Parcells and Ireland.

So now we have a need at ILB? Can someone explain to me why we gave away Akin Ayodele for nothing? What a phenomenally stupid trade that was.

i'd say the reason we got rid of him was because he was a bad linebacker?

A bad linebacker that is going into his 6th consecutive season as a starting NFL linebacker?

And we're going to find someone better than that on the camp cut waiver wire now (when we're near the end of the line in the waiver process)?

Using theebs words ... that sounds incredibly naive and stupid.

That makes perfect sense to me. I just think Jerry was basically doing ayodele a favor. He had no role here and he sent him somewhere he would play. I know that sounds naive and stupid, I just think the staff thought nothing of the guy and just gave him away.

As far as spears go, he does have a role. He may not end up being a starter (I think he will now) but he has a huge role on this team. He is going to play a ton of snaps. Ayodele was not going to do that.

I found it a big odd that we "threw in" Ayodele. To me, it sounded as if we were doing favors as opposed to getting rid of a player who couldn't play.

If we thought nothing of him then we are pretty bad talent evaluators. We will now have Carpenter sitting around doing what a clearly better player in Ayodele could have been doing. If Coach Parcells wanted Carpenter so bad, we should have thrown him in and kept the better player.

Only if you believe there was no reason to think Zach Thomas or Kevin Burnett could possibly get injured.

Key special teams contributor and experienced backup at at both ILB positions sounds like a role to me. Especially since some people say the reason our speical teams suck is because we don't have any backup LBs.

Speaking for myself, when I talked about backup ILBs I primarily meant for special teams, not to play LB.

And we traded Ayodele because Burnett was going to start over him anyway. And I guess we had some faith in Parcells' former #1 pick to be good enough to at least back up.

I do know that we could trade Parcells a quarter for five nickels and some would say we got screwed.

that is true also. But ayodele had 1 more year on his deal. That must have played a role in it.

I just think wade phillips must have thought so little of him that they didnt care what they got for him as long as he was gone.

Carpenter on the other hand is younger and maybe he will get better.

Also maybe behind closed doors ayodele was making it clear he didnt like being a backup and could potentially cause trouble.

I think the ferguson and fasano trades were crazy. I just really dont mind the ayodele move. I am probably wrong in that thought process but when spencer and burnett are healthy again, hopefully, we wont miss ayodele.

What do you call it when you trade a starting ILB and a young TE who will probably catch 40-50 passes this year for a 4th round pick?

ok. Of course he would contribute on special teams. How do we know he would be a team player and just show up and play special teams? You are leaping there. He has always been a starter, I am sure he would be chirping about not starting.

He didnt have a role on the defense. Maybe they feel carpenter will be able to be that insurance linebacker and core special teamer.

and you keep harping on this special teams thing, We all know read is a main part of the special teams playing poorly. I think folks kickoffs are poor and then you throw in guys making mistakes and you get poor special teams.

I would trade dehaven for read in a second but we cant do that, we just have to hope the emphasis on special teams is put on the young guys from the team leaders in the locker room.

What did we turn that 4th into? I can't remember. Wasn't it Scandrick and at least one pick next year?

So what do you think those two were worth?

And BTW, I don't think I ever said trading Ayodele was a great idea. Pretty sure I said he'd at least be good depth for us, even if he wasn't that good.

But I do think he and Fasano are spares. You know well that starting doesn't mean a guy is a good player.

And for the record... I HATED the Fergy trade. I think a 6th for a good starting 34 NT and team leader is horrible.

I think it's bigger problems than Read too, I just think those problems lie on the fact that Wade just takes a diffferent philosophy on special teams.

The Cowboys under different coaches and different times have used Darren Woodson and Roy Williams in coverage units when they were the best safeties in the NFL (back when Roy was a legitimate Pro Bowl player). I don't think Wade would ever ask one of his key defensive starters, much less one of his stars, to contribute on special teams.

well like I said I am a huge fan of parcells and the way he made the roster and treated the players.

I dont think it is a coicidence that nearly all the championsip teams have hard nosed coaches. dungy being the excpetion.

and again as far as ayodele goes, parcells had a similar situation in 06 with scott shanle and he handled it entirely different, taking him to camp and showcasing him in two games, then trading him. he didnt get much for him but he handled it differently.

I think you are on the nose there. I was one of the folks that felt we needed to get a WR in the draft, via trade, or even kidnap one if we had to, but now I think it is not such a pressing issue. Crayton looked good against Houston, Austin has showed a lot, but he will be out for the next month, and Hurd doesn't look to bad. Amendola and Stanback can play a little and we could even use Bennett as a WR in a pinch, although he is clueless.

I thin we are okay at WR right now. I am getting real concerned about SS though. Roy is still not covering anything. Watkins doesn't look to be the answer and Brown is lost. Maybe when Newman gets back thing will tighten up, but I don't know......

I was thinking the same thing during the last game. But I don't think he has enough experience to do it. But he looks more like a WR than a TE until you see him putting DL on their butts. The guy has talent.

Not trying to ruin anyone's dreams, but I think I recall something similar last year and the year before about our depth and the phone potentially ringing off the hook with trade offers and nothing materialized.

I would equate this to Stephen drumming up interest. Everyone realizes we have very little wiggle room on this roster to begin with and we have even less now injuries are beginning to become a problem. There would be little reason to trade for players that it is known will have to be cut.

I would be very surprised to see a significant trade that makes an impact. We might see a few swaps that amount to what would be orchestrated waiver wire moves where a team gives up a "conditional" choice (which really is a disguised 'future consideration') in exchange for some bench rider.

I think you're right except when a team sees someone they want and they don't believe they would get the chance to get them thru waivers. Guess that's why it's almost always a little surprising to see a trade.

Miami's waiver status could create a bit of leverage. There will probably be an assumption that Parcells will claim the best of the Cowboys cuts. The Dolphins are staying below their roster limit.

Thats who teams are calling on. I know an NFL scout+ told me we were totally loaded there - this story verifies that. I see Henry getting moved potentially :)

We don't need a WR. What is the obsession with that position?

What we need is a backup OL and ILB.
