Not to defend the condescending posts but a lot of posters begged (by forum, of course) the Cowboys to draft youth for the d-line last year and the year before. All they got (form Jerry) was that the Cowboys had Ware, Hatcher, Spencer, and Rat, never mind the fact that all were already in their golden years.

And not to mention the fact that Rat was done here.......last year. jerry had to know this.

Crawford was/is still unproven.

He mentioned Tyrone Crawford coming back will help but he sounded like that's gonna be a major area that they will address in the offseason.

Bruce Carter is a total waste, no effort what so ever.

If it goes anything like the offensive line this could take a while.

So the guy says something the entire board has asked for and he is mocked. The team had a great D-line going into the season with some serious depth. Spencer - Hatcher- Ratliff- Ware - Bass - Crawford. 4 of these guys never played more than 2 games for the cowboys. No matter how deep you are you can't cover those injuries.

Crawford and Bass haven't done crap yet in this league. Until then, they are nothing. Just because they wear the Star, doesn't mean they are good. Or just because Jerry says so.

Just ignore it man ... everyone is just frustrated and angry right now. Give it a month or two and people will start concentrating on the off-season and the upcoming free agency, draft, etc. People, including myself, are just too angry and upset to talk about next year right now

No, we'll still hate him as Jerra's Mini-Me

You're joking, right? o_O He might be the only chance this team has of putting together a good d-line next year if they can draft a blue-chip DT or DE.

I am - just too lazy to put the smiley. He looked good in the limited spots he played in 2012, and was having a monster offseason until his injury. I expect him to be at least a little better than Selvie when he returns. If he is AND we get another piece or too, the defensive rebuild isn't as long as I would fear.

Agreed. I think Crawford and Bass can play. The key is to add an impact rookie or two to the d-line and they instantly become better with solid backups in Selvie, Golden Cock, Wynn, and Kearse.

That is what's wrong with this organization (The Cowboys). We settle too often for "viable" players. If we want viable, we already have viable. They just are not very good.

Realistically, Ware and Crawford will probably have to be the main guys on the DL unless we get lucky in the draft.

the problem is that "the guy" is supposedly running a football franchise and is a year too late and reactionary and that is his usual MO

the team should have been aware of the Rat situation and that they could not rely on him
Ware had been injured both prior years and the team should have known he was not healthy
Spencer is way over-rated (this is not hindsight) and his injury concerns started before the season
Bass and Crawford were completely unproven

add on to that converting to a new scheme and you have the 2013 cowboys DL

this GM and FO went into this season on the basis of a bunch of hopes and dreams and completely unrealistic expectations

Don't just stop there. Continue to fix the oline too. I like that it was vastly improved but it can still be better. I like Mackenzie but only as depth.

I still think you fix the secondary by making the defensive line better. There just wasnt enough pressure regularly. I actually think Ware might be gone if he doesn't take a pay cut. Cowboys have to stop paying age, most of the better teams can let go of their above average guys when they get older, we like to resign them.

I thought the Spencer injury was mismanaged too. He had that injury last season so what was he doing waiting until this season to do something about it.

I think that is what Visionary is referring to in his post: "Hopes and dreams and completely unrealistic expectations."

So is Spencer definitely a goner now? Probably

Assuming Ware is back and healthy, you have two viable starters in Crawford and Ware. I do like Selvie as a rotation player.

This is the problem, we keep assuming that these older injured players will remain injury free throughout the season. Get ready for Ware Get ready for mini camp and training camp reports about a healthy Ware beasting and being unblockable yet in week 13 of the season he's ineffective.

How do we know that Crawford is a viable starter? We haven't seen enough of him to bank on him being productive.

I think you can win in this league with a Brandon Carr, Scandrick, Claiborne and Church in your secondary. You can't win with that defensive line though. And Hatcher is probably not gonna be here. Its gonna be tough to ask a few rookies to improve this defensive front by next season. I hope that whatever we do it allows for all those guys starting for us? Hayden, Selvie, etc.? It allows for them to be backups and role players. Because those guys have shown they can play. They are just not every down players. And at this point Ware isn't either.

I get that I was just saying they were more at fault than just counting on him with his injury history. They seem to allow the players who are under contract for a lot of money decide on their own if and when they need to have surgery.

If Baltimore wins the flip and Clowney is on the board, they'll draft him. He plays with the tenacity and aggression of a Baltimore defensive player.
