So front 7 .. let's see .. that's Jerry, Stephen, Garrett, Kiffin, Callahan, and who else?Stephen Jones said Cowboys need to fix the front 7
#1. Spencer was just breaking out becoming a major presence in the pass rush, and was ALWAYS a very very good run defender. you making a guy, who was a pro bowler sound like a JAG is pretty interesting..
#2. Ware said all pre-season that he was the healthiest he was in the past 3 years.
#3. Yes, Jay was hurt for 2 years but led on to the Cowboys brass that he would be ready during the season. He was in TC for crying out loud...if he was hurt so bad, why was he there..
#4. Hatcher was always a solid dlineman. Show me a team that has pro bowlers at every position of their d-line. And when given the chance, look what he did this year...
#5. I can show you multiple sources that stated that crawford was due for his breakout season. That is what you look for in a reserve.
#6. Bass might be a dime a dozen kind of guy but also showed better than any of the guys we pulled off the street save Selvie.
And if im not mistaken, JJ never said the d line was a strong part of the team for the future. He was talking about this year alone.
How does the Dline look to you this year? Depth looks real shaky to me.
Jon Machota: Depth definitely isn't a strength on the defensive line. If that front four is going to be effective, Spencer, Ware, Ratliff and Hatcher need to be on the field often. If there is a significant injury, I think Tyrone Crawford has the most upside of any of the reserves. He could have a breakout season if he's called upon to play significant time.
He mentioned Tyrone Crawford coming back will help but he sounded like that's gonna be a major area that they will address in the offseason.
We know nothing about Bass and Crawford. They have no more experience than the players who replaced them. Ratliff was never going to play for this team again--everybody knew that--and didn't exactly light it up in Chicago. Spencer is the only known loss, and he wasn't the difference between the worst defense in Cowboys history and even a middling NFL defense.
Packers say hi.
Crawford is a 3rd round pick and was getting pressure last year toward the end of the season. Bass was a rotational guy and was going to make an impact. Rookies on the d line make an impact all the time. They may have been question marks but they were familiar with nfl competition and would of made a difference. People thought Ratliff was coming back by week 6. Obviously he was healthy enough because he landed with the beats and played this season. What would of you have done differently? Drafted floyd? I like our Draft and think our dline was just hammered with injuries.
The Packers may say hi, but show me a team that wen through 16+ dine man and won a superbowl...

Thus far, Selvie and Haydon have more NFL production than Crawford and Bass. In fact, if Crawford had played this year and achieved the same production as Selvie, we'd all be heralding Crawford as yet another great Garrett draft pick.
The 16+ defensive linemen argument is absurd. The Cowboys went through so many because they couldn't find adequate replacements. I'm sure the Patriots could've gone through 16 wide receivers at the beginning of the year if their personnel department had been less astute.
You still haven't said what you would of done differently this year.
does he mean CBs?
because i have been told that great defenses are built on having great CBs
i was hoping we would draft another one in rd 1 or even better, trade up to draft one
Nice work Stephen. I guess now you'll draft a few more CB's....you can never have enough.
DL, LB, safety and guard would make a lot of sense.
As would QB.
This thing with Romo is a crisis for this teams future.
We might have ignored finding his successor up until now..
..but these back surgeries are very, very bad news..folks.
