Franchise QB being the key term

Exactly. The question is, do the Cowboys consider there to be 1, 2 or 0 franchise QB's available this year?

If none, then we'll obviously draft another position. If 1, then it depends on if that 1 is taken by Cleveland or a team that may trade up and therefore isn't still available at #4. If there are 2, then we could very well take a QB in the first.

My feeling is we consider at most only 1 of them a franchise QB. So it'll come down to whether this 1 is still on the board when we pick. Most likely not.

That's all I need to hear to know QB isn't a real option at #4.
Fishing for possible trade offers.

If we don't like the top QB on the board at #4 then a trade down would be my preference. It is a deep draft and if we could move down and still stay in the top 10 while picking up an early 2nd rounder as part of the deal then I'd go for it with no hesitation.

Dallas Cowboys could select a quarterback with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

On Tuesday, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed that the team will not pass on the quarterback position with their first-round pick if he has the potential to be a franchise player.

Via Star-Telegram:

"I mean you have to look at it," Jones said. "You’re not naive to it but if you have the opportunity in this league, in our situation, to get a potential franchise quarterback, then you have to make the investment. You have to have the patience. You sacrifice maybe that opportunity that maybe is impactful right now."

The Dallas Cowboys are in a unique position this offseason with a top 5 pick.

On one hand, they already have a franchise quarterback in place and the last time Tony Romo was healthy, the Cowboys won the NFC East with a 12-4 record in 2014. At No. 4, they will have their pick of several players with potential to help the team immediately.

On the other, the Cowboys may not find themselves in this draft position again with Romo at the helm. Dallas won just four games in 2015 -- its lowest total since 1989.

The Cowboys have needs at defensive end, cornerback, linebacker and running back, and they will have their choice at a premium player at any of those positions with their first pick. However, it certainly sounds like the Cowboys will strongly consider bypassing their present needs to find a potential successor for Romo.

In 2016, WHAT Franchise QB?

How about a Franchise GM that can Trade down for a Franchise RB/DB.

There are at least 10 QBs that have the ceilings to be Franchise type or starting QBs in the 2016 NFL Draft, none are successful as Flyin' Hawiian for Luck and Crablegs - without SUM MAJOR development in the Pro-Game. Including Paxton Lynch.

To a lesser extent Goff..who admittedly is a quite a bit more developed than the Bisons Wentz, ALBEIT a somewhat slightly lower top end.

MAKE NO MISTAKE not one of the QBs in the 2016 Draft are locks.

Poor draft for QB's this year, I'll "pass" on that...

Sign a Free agent pass rusher, Draft Ramsey at four, and snag a couple DT & a CB later in the draft.. Done.

Romo is not going to get thru 2016 without another injury that costs him lost games.

We need a backup who can step up and play at a high level.

Draft one.

Buy some insurance.

If Romo goes down again the rookie QB will get advanced reps and prep.

This happened with Aikman and it turned out fine in a year or so.

I'm not concerned.

I hope it isn't Matt Leinart

Think of all the hollaring for Romo to be benched after his first fourth quarter pick. You know he is going to have that one game a year that he always has.

Well, if the Cowboys feel strongly about one of them - and from the sound of it they do - they should probably do what's necessary to get him, whomever he is.

Don't you all love the internet GM / Draft Guru's / Coaches / Doctors....must be nice to be an expert at everything...if I had talent like that, I would not be posting, I would go for the Nobel Prize...

Any QB, rather one believes they are a franchise QB or not in this draft, won't be starting, he will sit and learn.
Which most QB's need to do anyway. Draft the QB, and let him learn, and he will become that franchise QB that some say he isn't, at this point.

And where does that get us without a QB, rather some crappy back up to Romo, or some other QB like we trotted out there last year.

Sure the Defense only gives up 8 points a game average, but the offense scores 6 points a game, every score being a Dan Bailey FG of 52 yards.

Drafting a QB doesn't ensure he can step up or play at a high level.

Drafting a CB at 6 does not ensure he will be a shut down CB. We can do the same with every guy in this draft. Nothing is ensured. I think what some of us fear including myself is the Cowboys continue to put this off of addressing the QB spot and will see a repeat of Carter, Henson, Hutchinson and other dead beats. I think the top 3 QB in this draft can develop into quality NFL QB, maybe not day 1 but I think this is the time for the Cowboys to seriously address this position. at 36 and getting banged up as he has Romo is not going to be able to last much longer. If we can get 2 years out of him playing at a top level we will be fortunate

I'm on the official, roll the dice and draft a qb, train now. I will even endure the endless threads on here how he needs to start over Tony every time he has a bad game, throws a pic, over throws a receiver, fumbles, takes a sack, where's his hat backwards etc, etc, etc
