Gone are the days of happy talk and promotional babble from Stephen Jones during preseason. This guy has firmly taken the reins.

Last night, he flat threw down the gauntlet on the running backs during the broadcast.

In a nutshell, he said that every running back in the league would want to run behind this line, and that they have their eyes open for opportunities through trades and the waiver wire for a running back right now. He said that they are looking at this closely every day around the league.

After a long oration to that effect, he finally said he was confident in the guys that were here. Almost like he was catching himself mid-sentence.

I think he really is looking, but I also think he's trying to get the message across that these guys had better run like their careers are depending on it, because they are. He's telling Randle to shut up and play, McFadden to show up or else, and Dunbar that it's time to step for real.

My gut is, at least one of the three backs in Week 1 isn't here yet.

Just get Chris Johnson already...

As they darn well better be. I don't think they have a choice at this point. We need more help to get through training camp at least.

I guess I've gotten the impression that this was their stance all along.

They have confidence in the three they have but are in no way over confident.

They will see how they perform in the preseason and , like with every other position, keep a keen eye around the league for opportunities to upgrade the roster.

I feel certain they have a ranked list of RBs who are on various rosters or are FAs.
Will McClay and the crew are not ignoring this whatsoever. If they reach a point where they think the long term/short term cost/value of one of the players on the list clearly exceeds one of the top three on the roster, they'll make a move.

I'm right in step with you on this.

This is just my own belief, but I think that McFadden has used up his last bit of equity and I think if he misses any practice from now until week one, he won't be here.

I think that is likely. I think they will give our current guys the chance to earn their spot which again they should all be back and ready to go during the next practice. I think if the Cowboys are not satisfied with what they see they will be looking at final cut downs and maybe even trade.

Arizona offered Chris Johnson a one-year deal a few days ago. Nothing on whether he's considering it or not.

Stephen Jones is right. We have Randle, McFadden and Dunbar all nursing injuries like they are Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch who have already proven enough to not have to earn their position. Meanwhile we just ran Gus Johnson to the ground in a preseason game when he just joined our team 2 weeks before camp.

Its very worrisome. However Jones needs to look at himself as being to blame also. He was Mr. Fiscal Responsibility with letting Demarco go to the Eagles which is OK if you have a real plan to replace him. Instead they brought in a player that is injured all the time and are now upset that he is what you knew he was. Don't blame the dog for giving you fleas. Blame yourself for laying down with a dog.

Just wish Jones will be proactive and sign Ray Rice before someone else beat us to the punch!! Seriously Rice could help this team and shouldn't cost us much in the process.

Yes Dallas would received some bad press from certain media outlets but winning silence the critics and this gamble could turn into a huge success story about 2nd chances and opportunities.

Bring in CJ2K... He could be our Cory Dillon.

Side note: Wasn't too impressed with Gus and Seastrunk. So much for my pet cat although there is still time to assess.

To be fair to McFadden, he apparently wants to practice and play, but the coaches aren't letting him.

Maybe just being cautious. Maybe they don't want him to get seriously hurt because they don't want to pay an injury settlement when they cut him.

Good gosh, no. One woman beater is enough, and Rice is used up anyway.

For those saying he no longer has speed, he does. I still don't see where people are saying he's done, I don't expect CJ2K, but Chris Johnson still has something that most RBs in this league don't have (Besides a gunshot wound. Just getting that joke out of the way :p)

And when he misses half the season hurt......

Err.....interesting choice of words.

And, I have no interest in Ray Rice.
