To be fair to McFadden, he apparently wants to practice and play, but the coaches aren't letting him.

Maybe just being cautious. Maybe they don't want him to get seriously hurt because they don't want to pay an injury settlement when they cut him.

I agree. I like some others have my doubt about McFadden but I would like to see him out on the field before writing him off. Based on what I have read he is eager to get back out there but is being held up by the training staff. We will see.

This.

McFadden has felt he was ready, but once the used the preseason injury designation on him, they felt they should be sure he was 100%. Nobody cares if we beat SD in a meaningless preseason game.

I think Randle is the only really secure RB on the team though.

Stephen Jones is right. We have Randle, McFadden and Dunbar all nursing injuries like they are Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch who have already proven enough to not have to earn their position. Meanwhile we just ran Gus Johnson to the ground in a preseason game when he just joined our team 2 weeks before camp.

Its very worrisome. However Jones needs to look at himself as being to blame also. He was Mr. Fiscal Responsibility with letting Demarco go to the Eagles which is OK if you have a real plan to replace him. Instead they brought in a player that is injured all the time and are now upset that he is what you knew he was. Don't blame the dog for giving you fleas. Blame yourself for laying down with a dog.

Very well said.

Sorry if I'm missing a joke here, but Johnson is one of the more durable RBs in the league.

This will be his eighth season, he's got a bullet in his shoulder, and teams are not clamoring to sign him.

Do the math.

I got your back E this guy has not signed because there is nothing left in the tank, he is a locker room problem, and his entire career has been a "me" first personality instead of team first. Don't bring the grilla in Manila here JJ.

Johnson turns 30 in September and has been both a locker room liability and inefficient runner for the last four seasons. Aug 11 - 8:29 AM

I expect them to sign someone off the waiver wire. No big names. I've got my eye on Joe Banyard Vikings. Minny has 4 good ones so somebody won't make it.

The gunshot happened back in March, it will be 6 months since around the time it happened when the season starts. So, unless some severe infection happened due to the gunshot, I'm going to have to guess he's doing just fine.

As for it being his eighth season, okay; last year was his seventh. 6 straight years of playing 16 games is impressive for an RB, and he's an RB that finds ways to avoid contact.

The video I just posted shows that he still has burst and big time speed in the open field. He makes sense being in our backfield.

I would take CJ as long as he agrees to allow Dez former baby sitter David Wells to pal around with him. Dez does not need a baby sitter CJ evidently still does.

Gone are the days of happy talk and promotional babble from Stephen Jones during preseason. This guy has firmly taken the reins.

Last night, he flat threw down the gauntlet on the running backs during the broadcast.

In a nutshell, he said that every running back in the league would want to run behind this line, and that they have their eyes open for opportunities through trades and the waiver wire for a running back right now. He said that they are looking at this closely every day around the league.

After a long oration to that effect, he finally said he was confident in the guys that were here. Almost like he was catching himself mid-sentence.

I think he really is looking, but I also think he's trying to get the message across that these guys had better run like their careers are depending on it, because they are. He's telling Randle to shut up and play, McFadden to show up or else, and Dunbar that it's time to step for real.

My gut is, at least one of the three backs in Week 1 isn't here yet.

The only guy on the wire for me is Pierre Thomas. The rest I say no thanks.

You guys haven't seen the secret weapon yet. Geoff Swaim is the secret RB. Thats why we traded for him.

He's a locker room problem? I haven't read anything like that.

I don't want Chris Johnson. Maybe if we brought him in 2 months ago and he went through offseason program and earned the teams respect. To bring him in now just sends a bad message imo.

Of course he has been looking. If we can all see it, you know they do. Im sure they cant wait for cut downs.

Who was I arguing with in the other thread that said there were NO SIGNS from management? Well.........he is your sign.

For those saying he no longer has speed, he does. I still don't see where people are saying he's done, I don't expect CJ2K, but Chris Johnson still has something that most RBs in this league don't have (Besides a gunshot wound. Just getting that joke out of the way :p)

Really nice. Sign him today. Way better then McFadden. Johnson running through the hole our line creates, he will have 7 or 8 60 yard TD runs.

I never believed they had any intention of going into the season with Randle/McFadden/Dunbar. As far as the HB position I dont believe the draft went there way. Coleman didnt fall to them in the 3rd, Davis and Allen didnt fall to them in the 2nd. Jones even said after the draft they were still going to be looking at the HB spot, I just dont think they have found what they want in the FA market and probably want to see what Randle can do before they enter the trade market
